Blood glucose 0735 was 5.2, yesterday's food was;

Breakfast: 3/4 cup honey nut cheerios w/2% milk, black tea, 500 mg metformin
Lunch: 4 dried apricots, black tea
Dinner: Shrimp salad plain and one on whole wheat bread, stir fried mushrooms and bean sprouts, 4 or 5 mini dill/garlic pickles, 1 glass red wine, black tea, 500 mg metformin
Snack: 2 glasses red wine, 2 shots Canadian whiskey

Even when my before dinner blood glucose was 3.5 yesterday, whole wheat bread (one piece) is not acceptable with the shrimp salad as my blood sugar went up to 7.8 within 45 minutes after eating (tested every 15 minutes), so maybe I'll try some coarse ground Russian style rye bread next week...

It’s been in the mid to high 8’s all day!!!!! (it’s about 2 pm). Measured after waking, then 2 hours after “breakfast”, on the hour after that even though I’m hating using up so many strips.

Yesterday
Lunch: 110g prosciutto and 80g hard cheese
Dinner: 300g prawns, 186g broccolini and a dipping sauce made from whole egg mayonnaise with some Huy Yong chili garlic sauce stirred in, then 40g cheese for dessert.
Net carbs about 15g, net calories after exercise about 700, I know apps aren’t always accurate though so whatever the app says I’ve burned I reduce that by about 10% to be on the safe side.

This morning I was hungry so I had a spoonful of full cream. Has my glucose kept so high because of the fat? Too scared to eat anything for the rest of the day.

I love the way you report booze as 'snacks' LOL

Yesterday's food
B - 1 tin of John West mackerel fillet
L - 1 can of coke zero
D - cheesy meaty spinachy pasta made with konjac noodles, 65 g Mersey Valley cheese, 3 mini cheese kranskys and a couple of big handfuls of spinach and kale from a bag.

Edit: Just realised now I may have over-estimated calories and carbs, as it looks like I selected the wrong things in the MyFitnessPal app, so god knows how many carbs and calories this was, I don't think it was over my limit.

Blood glucose when I went to bed was 5.6.

This morning it was 8.3, and when I checked again at 1 p.m. it was 8.4!!! This is with not eating anything as I'm fasting today.
Sounds like a bit of 'dawn phenomenon.....you're body's not stupid......it kind of knows it's not getting anything so dumps glucose into your system to help it get by(that's a real cack-handed explanation but look up DAWN PHENOMENON).

Don't panic about 8's.........I know it can be a bit disheartening when you go to bed with a 5.6 and wake up all excited to see what your overnight fast will have done to further improve your reading and then you score an 8.......happens sometimes......don't sweat it.

Also.......you will be getting adverse 'stress effects' what with your idiot (ex)fella acting the goat.

Well, they do make you feel like you are somewhat still in control of your life, and as my measurements indicate, they definitely do not cause an increase in blood glucose levels, therefore they must be low carbohydrate snacks, n'est-ce pas?

At 0820 blood glucose 5.9, food yesterday was;

Breakfast: 3/4 cup honey nut cheerios w/2% milk, 4 dried apricots, black tea, 500 mg metformin
Lunch: 5 slices Ukrainian ham/garlic sausage, 4 mini dill pickles, 1/4 cup brie cheese
Dinner: 1 beef hamburger on lettuce w/dijon mustard, relish, 3 tomato slices, 4 slices yellow onions, 2 heaping tablespoons zero calorie lime Jello, 2 heaping tablespoons low carb (allegedly) ice cream, 1 glass red wine, black tea, 500 mg metformin

Snack: 1 glass red wine, 2 shots Kraken spiced rum, 1/4 cup salted macadamia nuts, 1/4 cup unsalted cashews

Looks like the cashews and macadamia nuts caused my blood sugars to be higher fasting than my target, so will have to forego them also...

I'll bite, because this looks interesting. What is the recipe for your version of the Avgolemono soup?

To some extent, the recipe varies depending on what stuff I have leftover.
This time was as follows
Approximately 50g each of shallot, carrot & fennel finely chopped with a couple of cloves if garlic
Fried for a few minutes until soft in rapeseed oil
Added to about 800 ml of simmering chicken stock
90g arborio rice added and heated until soft (c. 20 min.)
About 100g of shredded chicken added.

Now the tricky bit.
Whisk an egg with 50 ml of lemon juice.
Add a couple of ladles of the hot soup whilst keeping whisking
Add this back into the soup and stir the soup until mixed.
If the whisking isn't brisk enough you may see a few bits of scrambled egg in the soup but this doesn't alter the taste, just the appearance.
Serve [4 generous portions, this recipe gives each at 125 Cal / 9.1g carbs]

Celery is more commonly used then fennel but I usually have some leftover fennel in my fridge as I use it quite a lot. Any risotto or paella rice will do (probably pudding rice too). I find that this makes the last bit of a chicken and a few bits of veg go a long way.

Can I just ask, is this fasting blood level without meds?
I think it's with or without meds......maybe people could post stating their med status if not already within signatures?

For the record.......and it is a record low for me

Last night 7.9

This Morning 4.3(lowest since diagnosis

Yesterday:

Brunch(combined breakfast/lunch)
6 good 90% pork sausages/2 rashers bacon,Tsp Colmans English Mustard

Dinner
Pasta Carbonara bake(naughty carbs),150ml Haagen Daaz(treat to replace alcohol)

Snacks
30g cashews/30g 85% green and blacks choc

6 Cigarettes

SO........Conclusions
1)bedtime result proves pasta dinner was bad but NOT terminal
2)Lie-in(slept till 10am) suggests benefits for morning levels
3)Sunday readings of 4.5(0415hrs,5.6 (0900hrs),8.1(1345hrs-after sausages and bacon plus copious coffees and a few cashews),5.3(15.45hrs-after a midday snooze),4.7(1900 about an hour after abdominal exercise),5.2(2105 after bowel movement and pre dinner),7.9 at bedtime post carby dinner and ice cream...........all suggest that my BG levels are acting as one might expect after certain events.......which is a relief after the chaos of hospitalisation/temperature spikes/sepsis etc.
4)fewer ciggies help reduce BG reading?

Overall a sunday average BG of 5.9 which if maintained for 2 months would give a HbA1c of approx 5.3 or 35.0......OK I know the conversions/predictions can be a bit shady but that would be my guess and if that's correct I would be happy with it this time around(test due in June).

If you see user signatures most of them will write with or with medication. Mine without medication.
You need to login to see signature. Also in mobile app it is not easy to see signatures.

Midnightrider... Thanks for the soup recipe (will substitute olive oil for canola oil), we'll have to give it a try in the next few weeks, we do make Chinese style egg drop soup, so this will be an enhanced and more sophisticated version.

Blood glucose this morning at 0810 was 5.6 and food yesterday was;

Breakfast: Scrambled eggs with Tabasco sauce and fried slice of ham, black tea, 500 mg metformin
Lunch: Iceberg lettuce, shredded pickled red cabbage, 4 mini dill pickles, 4 dried apricots, 70 g piece of baker's semi-sweet chocolate, black tea
Dinner: 4 chunks of Ukrainian garlic sausage, 2 pickled eggs, half dozen radishes, half dozen manzanilla stuffed olives, small bowl of zero calorie Jello, glass of red wine, black tea, 500 mg metformin
Snack: 2 shots tequila, 1 glass red wine

Looks like the FBG readings are approaching target ranges, have lost quite a bit of fat in the last 6 weeks, hopefully (weather permitting) the wife and I can do some bike riding this week.
