I was planning to fast yesterday, but I had my appointment with my GP and I felt a little bit judged when I told her I'd been losing weight so quickly by not eating enough. So I ate a dinner of mushrooms and zucchini, seasoned with garlic and onion powder (yes I know these powders are carby), some Parmesan and a drizzle of cream. According to MFP it came to about 800 calories (I'm doing a one meal a day routine and SUPPOSEDLY eating every other day), and I also did cardio for about 45 minutes. But then I felt guilty about eating when I'd resolved not to, and threw some of it up. So I really have no idea what my calorie intake yesterday actually was. I expected purging would have shot my glucose up, but my pre meal was in the mid 4's, and when I tested straight after purging it was still that.

I know this wasn't a good thing to do. I'm overweight currently but also have a history of anorexia and bingeing/purging, or purging even when I haven't binged, so I need to be mindful of that. The good news is this is the first time I've done it since diagnosis two weeks ago so I'm trying not to kick myself too hard.

FBG at 0710 was 5.7, food yesterday;

Breakfast: zero food, black tea, 500 mg metformin
Lunch: zero food, black tea
Dinner: garden salad w/Kraft balsamic vinegar & oil, chunk of roast beef, mashed rutabaga, glass of red wine, black tea, forgot to take metformin tablet
Snack: shot of dark rum w/diet Pepsi

Although I forgot to take my evening metformin tablet, my morning FBG was pretty good because of minimal carbs/sugars yesterday plus I drank an extra litre (liter) of plain water. Also seem to have lost 1/2 lb overnight although our scale is not the most accurate or consistent. Carrying on with fixit tasks today and investigating why my old wireless router will not work in repeater mode at daughter # 2's.

Lunch: 1/4 cup salted macadamia nuts, 1/2 cup strawberries, 70 g chunk of baker's semi-sweet chocolate, black tea
Dinner: large plate stir fried bean sprouts and Chinese snap peas, 1/2 cup butter/sherry fried sliced mushrooms, 1 glass red wine, black tea, 500 mg metformin
Snack: 1/4 bag of "pork rinds" (puffed), 2 shots vodka

FBG measurements were in the expected range today, planning on lunch via Mr. Sub (no bread), we'll see how that goes. Craving a "butter tart" (Canadian delicacy) but know it will cause BG readings to skyrocket, wonder if there is a diabetic substitute that is actually edible? Finished with wireless repeater (works), carrying on with shelving tasks...

Snack: 2 hefty glasses of dark rum w/Coke Zero

FBG this morning was as expected, no surprises. Discovered a recipe for diabetic (?) butter tarts, low carb but about 180 calories each, so still definitely way up there on the caloric scale. Today more wall shelving work and replacing defective hidden hinge and door closer (bathroom cabinet), get bicycles ready for the weekend...

Today it is snowing, we are forecast to get somewhere between 5 and 15 cm, good thing we still have our snow tires on the car! Finishing up fixing the cupboard door hinge at daughter #1's, photographing antique china for impending sale, it is going to be an "inside" day...

Breakfast: 2 egg omelette (in butter) with fried tomato slices, 4 large California strawberries, black tea, 500 mg metformin
Lunch: Mr. Sub cold cut combo with lettuce, onion, tomatoes, black olives, hot peppers, "special" sauce, NO bread, black coffee
Dinner: turkey w/cranberry sauce, roast potato chunks (about 1 cup) w/Swiss Chalet gravy, lemon meringue pie, glass of red wine, black tea, 500 mg metformin
Snack: 1 Guinness beer, 2 glasses red wine, 2 shots scotch w/water, 1 piece lemon meringue pie

Was a very bad diabetes diet follower yesterday, had way too much lemon meringue pie and exacerbated it with the Guinness, didn't take my BG before bed, but the morning reading FBG of 6.8 shows the results. Better stay away from pie and Guinness, at least before bed anyway. Snow needs to be shoveled today, heading out for "brunch" to one of our favourite eateries, will stay away from carbs, maybe a day of replacing front fork fluid on motorcycle...
