For reasons that are not important, I suffered depression, most days I didn't get out of bed let alone the house. now 10 months later, I'm diabetic, obese, lethargic and although my depression is improving, it is far too easy for me to just give up. I have been very good with my diet (even though it is still not enough ) I haven't eaten anything sweet since the day I was diagnosed, I've cut meal sizes, I've lost weight, BG is down (ish) and eating fruit again. Where I have been failing is exercise. My nurse wants to refer me to a group that helps those of us who have "escaped" exercise or are unwell and I have always said "I am walking lots" but the truth is I still struggle to go out.
But last night an advert (commercial) was on the television and my wife noticed my foot tapping away... she stated I had that CD somewhere and after a bit of a search I finally found it... the track is called "Pump it up" by Elvis Costello and I cannot keep still when I hear it, I cannot dance and when walking or jogging I find my muscles start to burn... I hit the 20 yard (metre) wall... that marathon runners hit at 20 miles :) .....

But for some reason I just keep on jogging on the spot to the music.... I just did 35 minutes without stop, my muscles stopped burning (or I just didn't notice) while I was happily jumping around. I'm sweaty, hot and bothered and breathing a bit heavier but I feel really good.

Thank you Elvis Costello.

I'm sure a lot of people already knew but for anyone else trying to find motivation to do any exercise... find a great song and let it loop continuously... :)

I like Status Quo, myself - but I notice that you say that you don't eat anything sweet, but you are eating fruit - which means one or the other statement can't be true. If you are also eating carbs from other sources, that all contributes to blood glucose from dietary sources.

Well done for finding a motivator! I like Wham! for exercising and low carb for getting off the flab. Try replacing the fruit with low starch veg, nuts and seeds and your bgl should come down nicely. :)

@Resurgam When I say I haven't eaten anything sweet... The day I was diagnosed (in the evening 6.20 by phone) during the day I ate a whole lemon meringue with half a pint of double cream, 34 licorice strips, 1 packet of digestive biscuits and 5 small individual apple pies, 3 Viennese whirls along with a selection of mints and chocolates.... those were the last cakes, sweets and desserts to touch my lips... :) Fruit does contain sugar but when I used to eat 6 bars of chocolate every afternoon, 6 grapes a day doesn't even register on my sugar scales :)

@kittypoker Thanks, I've done some more and only stopped through cramp in my calves. I don't eat veg only beans, potatoes (which I've just drastically reduced) and a few peas. I have got mixed nuts and limit myself to 2 ounces per day but they are starting to seem a little same ish but I can always eat almonds, so I'll just buy them.

I'm with you folks, no particular group or singer, but if there's something on the radio that I find catchy, or a song I like, (Abba usually does the trick, but there are others) then I'll drop whatever I'm doing and have a jig around the kitchen for the duration - happened today, I pretended I was dancing with my dad; made me feel sad and happy all at the same time.

Merry Christmas everyone - whatever music floats your boat :)

Joe Jackson: around that time: Hope you get it.
