For reasons that are not important, I suffered depression, most days I didn't get out of bed let alone the house. now 10 months later, I'm diabetic, obese, lethargic and although my depression is improving, it is far too easy for me to just give up. I have been very good with my diet (even though it is still not enough ) I haven't eaten anything sweet since the day I was diagnosed, I've cut meal sizes, I've lost weight, BG is down (ish) and eating fruit again. Where I have been failing is exercise. My nurse wants to refer me to a group that helps those of us who have "escaped" exercise or are unwell and I have always said "I am walking lots" but the truth is I still struggle to go out.
But last night an advert (commercial) was on the television and my wife noticed my foot tapping away... she stated I had that CD somewhere and after a bit of a search I finally found it... the track is called "Pump it up" by Elvis Costello and I cannot keep still when I hear it, I cannot dance and when walking or jogging I find my muscles start to burn... I hit the 20 yard (metre) wall... that marathon runners hit at 20 miles
.....
But for some reason I just keep on jogging on the spot to the music.... I just did 35 minutes without stop, my muscles stopped burning (or I just didn't notice) while I was happily jumping around. I'm sweaty, hot and bothered and breathing a bit heavier but I feel really good.
Thank you Elvis Costello.
I'm sure a lot of people already knew but for anyone else trying to find motivation to do any exercise... find a great song and let it loop continuously...
