This might seem a daft question and maybe I should go and look in the book.
I've walked 4.5 miles ( about 450 calories ) this mooring . If I do 800 calories today that means my net calories add 350 for the day , is this to low or will it be ok. If I do this every day will my body think I'm starving ?

If the 450 calorie valuation of your walk comes from MFP, I would be a little sceptical. It's known to be less robust on exercise than might be ideal.

Personally, I have never ever considered adding back in calories burned during exercise. If it were me, I would just crack on as I had been doing and see where it takes me.

@ EdMac I feel fine and what you said makes sense..

@AndBreathe what does MFP stand for ?I tend not to add back calories either most of the time . I just wondered if a net of 350 was to low.

Ah AndBreathe it was from Mapmywalk . Yeah your right about it not always being robust on MFP but it helps to keep me on track .

Yay!!!! I'm one week into the blood sugar diet and weighed in today for the first time.......I've lost 5 1/2lbs!! I've tried so many diets which haven't worked, even gained weight on some. Still craving carbs at times but not feeling hungry. Blood sugars are stabilising. Loving that I've finally found something which works for me!

Hi All

Thanks for your replies. I have just finished week one on the 8 week blood sugar diet and I had my weigh in today. I have lost 6lb in a week which I'm pleased with and 1 inch off my waist. I know this sort of weight loss will not continue but it does give you a boost to continue with the diet. My blood sugars have definitely been better I'm now getting readings in the pre-diabetic range.:)
Now that's worth keeping up with!!!! Well done you

Help!!! Second weeks weigh in lost half a pound I have stuck religiously to less than 800 calories a day, stayed low carb. I know if you lose weight on a diet it tends to be the most in the first week, but this is disheartening. Blood sugars in the 7s all the time, I'd like them lower. Any ideas?

Has your Vitamin D3 level been tested? Being deficient can block attempts at weight loss. Worked like a charm for me - started losing weight within a short time after starting supplementation.

Hi Summer dreamer , I only lost 2lb the first week , I'm on week 5 and lost 9lb in total. I'm happy with that and I've lost 6cm off my waist . My upper body apparently looks a lot thinner . I'm now 10st 13 and 5'7. FBS consistently in the 5 range.
For me constipation was a problem at first and I find Aloe Vera colon cleanse gently helps that lol.

Keep it up , don't be disheartened you are only 1 week in and Rome wasn't built in a day

Hi,
I have just completed week 8 of the Newcastle diet. Before, things got so bad that even with plenty of medication (including metformin) I had morning levels ranging between 220 and 380. 3 weeks into the Newcastle diet (and I took the optifast shakes that do contain some sugar) the morning readings were between 72 and 110 so I discontinued medication.

Now with no meds and on LCHF morning readings are around 110. Most significant, I had a large pizza and 1 hour later the glucose level was 148. 2 hours after eating the pizza the glucose level is 177

Hi I was just wondering if anyone out there is on this diet. I have just started it on Monday and have lost 4lb already. My fasting bloods are down from 7.5 to 5.9 although they do fluctuate. I am finding it hard going as I'm craving bread especially in the mornings not too bad the rest of the day. If anyone else is doing this diet I would love to hear how you are getting on as I think I'm going to need a lot of support to do it for 8 weeks!

I'm going away for the weekend so I'm not sure how I'm going to cope with eating out!

Cheers

Mallins
Hi, I did this twice (the second time systematically) and intend to do this again once I've finished my end of semester marking, followed up by a maintenance diet and up my exercise.

The second time I did this I was very well organized and systematic I graphed my meter readings and my weight, by the end of the 8ight weeks I could run up 12 flights of stairs to my office in the university lost a 6th of my body weight. I did not achieve remission (not far off) and gradually lapsed into not the perfect diet. I've deteriorated in the past few years due to putting mind before body (I've wrote two books and been more sedatory than was good for my health.

I need to do this again in the light of both experience and in the light of further research on the approach Published in: Taylor, R et al., (2019 Understanding the mechanism of reversal of Type 2 diabetes. Lancet Diabetes Endocrinol. May 22 2019 pp. 726-36. For those of us who hope for a cure this is the only hope we have (at the moment and its a lifestyle change with the possibility for a cure maybe 6 years in the process but living better with no further deterioration (hopefully) in the meantime, or slowing down the process. I plan to start the diet next month after finishing marking the semesters assignments and running up the university stairs to start the next semester a whole lot fitter.

I have to build in the current insulin regime to the systematic process and looking to do this with someone else.

Please do this Mallins, its your best hope and if you do it systematically it will work to some degree, but I don't know what your circumstances are. Robin

I started diet 3 weeks ago against the advice of my diabetes specialist, although she has agreed to monitor test my bloods etcetera in 8 weeks. I am type 2 on insulin and have lost 13 pounds which is fantastic. My glucose readings have dropped significantly and I have reduced the medication considerably. On a good day I have not required any insulin as readings between 5.4 -7.0. On a no insulin day it is great freedom not having to worry about typos. I have also noticed a reduction in blood pressure .On the down side ketosis is meant to be a problem and the change from poor control to good control may initially have a detrimental effect if you have retinopathy problems so I am told. But I am going to stick with it as at the moment t feel great
Hi Badass,
I have GP who is a supportive but a nursing specialist who needed to be educated about this (which is really sad), when you say your readings dip between 5.4-7.0 are you talking about the test first thing in the morning, so its an insulin free day. Is this the advice you have been given? Robin

Hi @Robin68

You are responding to a thread that is over 5 years old, so you may well not get any of the original posters getting back to you.
If you wish to discuss your new round of the diet with current members, you could start a thread of your own, or join one of the current low cal/800 cal threads, to get moral support.
