Zola, that's awesome! African Greys are some of the most intelligent birds ever- like Einstein.
I have a lot of pets in Trinidad, all of which I caught or just turned up one day. I'll post them one or two at a time later. The list includes 7 dogs (only got 2 now, lost a puppy to a wild dog :'( ), a cat eyed snaked (caught him whilst doing my laundry :3), 2 red footed tortoises, a crab, some fish, two eels, house lizards, a chameleon, 3 frogs and a bunch of chickens.
Wow... What a collection you had.
When my BF moved to Portugal he just got 'visited' by local dogs who ended up staying as he fed them.
When I visited him and we took a walk into town every single house had a massive dog on a chain who went loopy when we passed the house. They were guard dogs. These dogs were called 'Sierra mountain dogs' and in my eyes were severly mistreated. They were HUGE... And very protective. They often were not fed properly and were never let off the chains.
In rural areas of Portugal if your dog gave birth to a litter ( which was a rarity as there were far fewer girl dogs than boys) and there were girl dogs they were often killed at birth. For the simple reason that girl dogs have to spayed and there was so little money.
I am not a pet owner but love dogs, I was quite frankly appalled at the way the local Portugese treated their dogs.
My ex BF now have 7 dogs. (Probably more now) and cats everywhere. The 'strangeros' (foreigners) who move to Portugal often end up with loads of dogs and cats as they have a different way of viewing pets.
They just appear on their properties looking so hungry. Bear in mind this is Central Portugal not the Algarve. You even get Cats Protection Leagues (or similar) in the Algarve. Not so the further up you go.
It's probably the same all over the world......
We are indeed a nation of pet lovers eh.
