A couple of you have asked for a pet thread. You can talk about your pets, past and present and show photo's.

So here's your chance to have a 'PET CHAT'

Best wishes RRB x

Hi Brett I could not call my dog 'Martin', especially as she is a girl. I had another Westie, who was unfortunately killed chasing a fox 14 months ago, her name was Lotus. My westies live up to the 'small, fast and expensive'. I will post a photo when I am not so tired.

My softie staffie Marley who we unfortunately lost to cancer 4 years ago. I would never have chosen a staff but from owning him my opinion completely changed.

My gorgeous golden Jack who will be 14 in December. He still thinks he is pup amd is slightly crazy...vet has diagnosed mild doggy dementia!! He has taken to carrying a pink fluffy love heart shaped pillow everywhere he goes.... :) He has been my baby since I brought him (and Marley) home as 8 week old pups in 2000.

Whelks,winkles... All crustaceous seafood except prawns. Can't do crab.lobster or scallops.
Don't like the way they are killed and cooked. Save our Scallops. SOS !!!
Also HATE evaporated milk.
I don't have any pets but I do have a couple of spiders which I haven't the heart to get rid of.

Not big ones in a vivarium...One lives happily in a corner of my front room and the other lives in my doorbell on the wall. Bell no longer works luckily.....

I will take some pics tomorrow.

I would love a parrot but they are so expensive aren't they.... When I was really small my Granny and Grandad ran a pub. The sort you rarely see nowadays with a snug bar. There were 3 parrots in the public bar. A great big white one with an urgent head crest... An African Grey... One of those big colourful ones..... And they all swore. My Nan had 4 sons and 3 of them went in the navy and one in the army. The naval sons smuggled parrots back from their travels and they were all used to men and consequently their language was rather blue. So much so that my Nan had to put them in a back room.

Eat your F*****G dinner ya B******D.... Things like that.

They were very rude parrots. But very entertaining. Yep.I would love a parrot.....

Haha too funny! Rodney has only chewed one pair of shoes, not bad for a puppy!

All the dogs love flowers though. I have some sunflowers that I'm scared to put in the ground because they'll get destroyed!

Zola, that's awesome! African Greys are some of the most intelligent birds ever- like Einstein.

I have a lot of pets in Trinidad, all of which I caught or just turned up one day. I'll post them one or two at a time later. The list includes 7 dogs (only got 2 now, lost a puppy to a wild dog :'( ), a cat eyed snaked (caught him whilst doing my laundry :3), 2 red footed tortoises, a crab, some fish, two eels, house lizards, a chameleon, 3 frogs and a bunch of chickens.

I LOVE animals. Just wish I could have more around me in England. I worked on a farm for years too do I can post pictures of them... Including a pony dressed up like a reindeer :3

Wow... What a collection you had.

When my BF moved to Portugal he just got 'visited' by local dogs who ended up staying as he fed them.
When I visited him and we took a walk into town every single house had a massive dog on a chain who went loopy when we passed the house. They were guard dogs. These dogs were called 'Sierra mountain dogs' and in my eyes were severly mistreated. They were HUGE... And very protective. They often were not fed properly and were never let off the chains.
In rural areas of Portugal if your dog gave birth to a litter ( which was a rarity as there were far fewer girl dogs than boys) and there were girl dogs they were often killed at birth. For the simple reason that girl dogs have to spayed and there was so little money.

I am not a pet owner but love dogs, I was quite frankly appalled at the way the local Portugese treated their dogs.

My ex BF now have 7 dogs. (Probably more now) and cats everywhere. The 'strangeros' (foreigners) who move to Portugal often end up with loads of dogs and cats as they have a different way of viewing pets.
They just appear on their properties looking so hungry. Bear in mind this is Central Portugal not the Algarve. You even get Cats Protection Leagues (or similar) in the Algarve. Not so the further up you go.

It's probably the same all over the world......

We are indeed a nation of pet lovers eh.

It's a similar situation in Trinidad. In the city areas every house has dogs chained outside and they are just guard tools. In the rural parts (my house over there was built from scratch on bush land- its not even officially on the map or grid yet) They do protect your property but people are more chummy with them. Feral dogs (mostly bull and terrier types- look like english staffies or very dingo like) run in packs especially on the beach, but they can be very friendly despite the amount locals might hit and throw things at them because they are seen as a pest. Amazing that they will let me sit and pet them.

3 of our dogs we brought home, the others just started visiting, like with your boyfriend in Portugal. Seeing as they freely wander and could just move on to the next house with food, it's nice when they decide to stick around and get attached to you.

Terrible that dogs are seen by so many as just tools and status symbols though :/ Not just in Portugal and Trinidad either..
