Hi, I had to apply for Universal Credit on the 25th July, because I was critically ill in hospital and I don't get sick pay from my employer ( zero hour contract and under the monetary quota). I have been for a work interview, and then I had to go for a work commitments interview the next day, which was frustrating, depressing, demoralizing and dehumanizing. I have submitted online, 2 'fit note's' as the word's 'sick note' isn't used anymore. then it has to be taken to the Job Centre to verify it is correct and seen by the agent.
Today, I was supposed to get a telephone interview call from the the commitments agent at 10.40, no call, I waited and waited by my mobile, then at 11am a call came, no one there and then the same again a couple of minutes later, it said private number. So now I am panicking, so I go onto my journal and write 4 messages. Then I ring the 0800 number, but they do not take enquiries about Universal Credit. So what do I do? I caught a bus, luckily I don't live far away. Walked into the Job Centre and spoke to a person about what had happened, then another person and then another one, who poked their nose in. Now, my commitment agent, was in an hourly meeting, from 11 finish at 12 pm, then lunch until 1pm. Trying to get through to these muppets was exasperating. The women, who took over, said, my telephone agent, could of rung me at 11, but I said, he was probably in the meeting by then and I was previously told it would take 20 minute's on the phone. I said it doesn't add up. I asked a couple of more questions ( also they don't ring land line phones it has to be a mobile and if you haven't got a mobile you will have to buy one). I told the woman her tone was very condescending and as I don't know what is going on, that is why I am asking questions. I got upset, but was feeling angry inside, so I said I would wait just outside the department, the woman, went back to her claimant and then asked me back in and she apologised for being 'rude' and was then as nice a pie'. She gave me my agent's direct number which I rang at 1.10pm, no reply, so I left a message. He rang back, and when I told him what went on this morning, he said he rang at 10.30 ( I said I DID NOT get a call from you. he said not to worry about it and how is the work search going ? !! I said pardon ?.....................do you know who you are talking to as I have 2 fit/sick notes, he said sorry, as he see's so many people and I said that doesn't help the claimant you're actually talking to. I told him I didn't want another telephone interview and I would come in, somehow. Now I have an appointment on 29th August with the same agent.
They treat you with such indifference, no matter what your circumstance's are. I am still biting the bit and trying to calm myself. Such an awful experience, from the start, if I did all those things, I would be sanctioned in some way. If anyone has to get Universal Credit, I wish anyone who applies for UC, all the luck in the world. To top the encounter off, I was given a small leaflet, which read :- Tell us what you think, regarding feedback and thoughts on my experience today. Which I will gladly do.
