Thanks Everyone :)

I can't wait to see my consultants face when he see's what me and my pump can do

Everyone is getting good results all around wahoo!

Brilliant Ebony!!!

Disagree with Nigel saying the next ones will be in the 5/6's. Mine are currently 6.3, and I want mine a little higher, as I know I have had some days when I have been battling hypo's all day due to swopping medications, and a 6.3 result for me is too low....and personally I would like to be around the 6.7-7.0 mark. I don't get readings above 7 or 8 on a daily basis now unless I have messed up, and to be able to see that the standard deviation is so much less on a daily basis through the remote control is fantastic for me, as it means I am not getting the huge swings anymore in my levels. My hba1c is a gudeline, but my remote control telling me my standard deviation levels is a fantastic tool as well.

It is so great to be able to get such good results, pumps should be more available to type 1's without the horrendous battles that some people have had to get them.

I think it is fantastic to be able to manage without the swings in levels that MDI can give. To be able to adjust the hourly doses and to lead better lives from feeling so much positive about our levels, and that we can manage them by tweaking a little here and there.

Brilliant result Ebony, makes you feel as if the hard work has paid off doesn't it?? Also, the fact that it is counted as a morderate improvement, rather than an extreme improvement (down to 5 or 6's) is better for easing retinopathy etc, which I am led to believe that fast impovement in levels can give. You must be so pleased with yourself. Well done....

Hi,

thanks i am very pleased indeed, it's my lowest result to date! my highest being 16.4%

I agree with both you and Nigel, i know that low HBA1c's in T1's can indicate too many hypo's and swinging BG's, but i'm sure there are T1's out there who acheive HBA1c's in the 5's and 6's safely and by purely brilliant control.

I hoped this one would be around 8%. I also know that big drops in HBA1c's can cause complications to worsen so i hope to get it down a bit more without the aid of hypo's, do it nice and slowly :)

I think i'd be happy with 6.9% not too low, but just under seven!

thanks again :)

Agreed Ebony.

If 5 and 6's are achievable in hba1c's without hypo's and without losing hypo awareness then that would be superb.....I am only speaking of course from my last 90 days-and I know for myself that I had whole days when I struggles to get above 4 all day!!!!!If I had achieved anything under 7 with my hba1c without a hypo I would be swinging from the chandeliers!!!!! I'm just too aware that my hba1c 6.3 had hypo's within it.......

You have had great results, be very, very proud of yourself. Just brilliant, well done you....

Ebony

I also agree with what Sharon has said .........

Well done on getting yr a1c to get a bit lower but don't overdo it. 7.2 is a dramatic drop from 8.4 within just 2 months so spend the next few months levelling off at 7.2. Probably by December you can lower it a bit more to 7.0 or 6.9.

I've had lower a1c's at 6.4% and although I coped ok, I did find that my awareness of going hypo came about when my bg levels were somewhere between 2.0 to 3.5mmol, so a bit worrying.

I'm fairly happy with an a1c around the 6.8 - 7.0% mark and that comes through having D 45 years.

Yes there are type 1's who can have HbA1c's in the 5's and 6's who don't have swinging bg's and hypo all the time..............I am one! :)

Up until 2 years ago I would swing high to low and vice versa and would except hypo's as a inevitable part of living life with type 1 diabetes, since changing my diet and together with the knowledge I gained from the DAFNE course I am rarely in double figures and can go all week without experiencing a hypo (usually catching them in the lower 4's).

Although there are times when I find myself in the 4's during the day, I deliberately try to keep my bg 5 and above in order to keep my hypo awareness intact, to date I have never lost my hypo awareness and the prospect of this happening leaves me cold, hence why I am happy to keep my a1c in the low 6's.

Again good result ebony, to what level you decide to lower your HbA1c is purely personal, just try and keep away from the dreaded hypo's and hopefully your control will continue to improve over time.

Nigel
