Hiya all names Mick i have been member on here for a while so thought it was time to introduce myself .
I am a type 2 diabetic and have been for about 12 years after a major op i decided time to sort this out.
My only medication is novamix was on 33ml up until this week. so thought time to try the LCD.
I had lost about 10kg post op and my last Hba1c was 48 blood sugars where in the 9-10 after 3 days
i have cut my novomix down to 23ml and not had a blood sugar test over 6 i have had it as low as 4.1
which would previously have cause a hypo this diet is amazing and how quickly your body can adapt
this is all with minimal excercise as im still recovering cant wait to hit the gym.so my message is persevere
and dont let this condition beat you and have a wicked day

Hello Mick and thanks for sharing your story :)

Good work! Oh, and I agree. My numbers changed quickly on LCHF diet. Only wish I had started this way of eating sooner. It's really not hard to sustain.

Thank you for the replies and the little star badge thing yep must say i am surprised how nice some of these meals are and wish this had been about so many years ago only downside would have been i wouldn't have met so many nice people on this site,

The people on here are awesome and so supportive, likewise I'm glad my GP told me to have a look!:smug:

Like many of us 'long term' diabetics you have found the right way. Well done and keep it up. Having our metabolism working at a new lower carb balanced level does not mean we are cured but 'long-term' no longer means 'lifer' that becomes death by diabetes.

Yes! I would never have believed beforehand that I would come to enjoy spinach (fried in best olive oil) and see cauliflower (with cheese of course) as a huge treat. Not to mention re-discovering the roast chicken of my childhood after decades of plant-based diet (which I did not find compatible with VLC). The big downside is inconvenience. No sandwiches, microwaved jacket potatoes or bowls of cereal, of course no fish and chips, almost everything I eat has to be cooked (by me!). Thank heaven for cheese and nuts.

Gold star to your GP!
Thank you he is a treasure. I'm very nervous of finding a GP like him when we finally move. My best has moved to the seaside ahead of us (grrrr) and she is testing out the new GP practice. Now she never got on with my present GP and having gone through most of the GPs in the new surgery of the 6 so far she only likes one so perhaps I will get lucky when we get there. Mind you my present GP has said if I have any trouble I'm to tell the new GP to ring him and he will explain everything we have tried in the past six years, it'll be a long conversation!

LCHF diet is going well insulin down to 18ml sugars now between 4.1-5.3 my after food blood sugars are coming down really good now feel lots better with more energy and actually cooking a meal from scratch makes it so much more enjoyable .
For years been told by doctors i would be on insulin for life big thumbs up to all the helpful people on here
