hi, i would like anyone's opinion on my situation please, i have been type 1 diabetic now for 34 years & over the last 12months my control(ha ha ha) has been very unstable & i have developed retinopathy& neuropathy wether that is due to my control over 12 months or over 34 years i do not no. I have had spells where i haven't looked after myself to which i hold my hands up to but considering over the years i have only been admitted to hospital once (Oct 08) with DKA i think ive done really well. Anyhow back to my prob- after having my annual review with podiatrist in May i was told i had stage 1 neuropathy then when i saw the diabetic cons also in May (after waiting since oct 08 for app!!) he confirmed that diagnosis. The pain in my feet is unbareable most days & i mentioned this to the podiatrist when i saw her 17th Sept so she advised me to see my G.P to change the Amitriptyline(25mg x2 nightly) to Gabapentine to ease the pain. I went to see G.P on Monday & he examined my feet & he said i DONT have neuropathy it is prob Chilblaines i am suffering with!!! As you can imagine i was shocked(understatement!!) & so said to G.P that did he think podiatrist & consultant were wrong, he then said to me that it cant be neuropathy as the pain is worse in my left foot & with neuropathy you get same pain in BOTH feet, i do get pain in both feet but it is worse in my left foot- so therefore if you get Athiritus in your left knee then you MUST have it in your right knee otherwise it isn't arthiritus. What maddened me more was that 1 hour after leaving surgery the nurse rang to say prescription was waiting for me as the G.P had asked her her opinion & as she is a diabetic also & has Gabapentin for the same reason as me then he did prescription, so its a good job my practice nurse is also on Gabapentin otherwise i would not have got them. I am so angry words can't describe it, but has anyone else been told the same as me???
