Jim,

Your levels are good. I suspect however that you aren't eating enough calories. Energy is derived mainly from carbs and fat. As you have cut the carbs you need to replace any calorie deficit with fat and/or protein or you will a) have too little energy and b) your body will go into starvation mode and your weight will plateau as a defence mechanism. If you give us a typical day's menu we may be able to help.

hi thanks ...nomal day breakfast 1 slice brown toast and coffee lunch..2 brown salad rolls ..main meal varied ..snacks fruit mainly rasperries strawberries or kiwi fruit occasional nuts as well

Eat plenty of eggs. Meat & fish if you aren't a vegetarian, real butter. Try a plain yogurt with raspberries thrown in for breakfast or snacks or puddings.
Have a poached egg with your breakfast toast.

And it might be worth looking at a multi vit and mineral (unless you supplement already?)

In terms of nutrition (wide variety of multicoloured fruit and veg, protein and fats), it looks like your evening meal is your main intake. That immediately reduces your nutrition levels to 1/3 of their optimum...

That isn't meant as a criticism. It is just that I remember reading somewhere that if all you eat at breakfast is a slice of toast, then you immediately give yourself 1/3 malnutrition. It stuck in my mind because it was such a harsh comment - but rather hard to argue against! ;)

Also, have you heard of vit D deficiency? I don't know how much sun you get playing golf, but check it out on google. Just a thought.

Hope some of our suggestions help.

You should not just take vitimins it can cause a lot of problems. Get your dr to do a blood test for vit d and after than you will know if nred them or not and your dr will script them.
D and calcium are linked and lots of complications can happen. In fact ditto to complications on any vitimins.

Worryingly most of the vitimans and minerals on sale are not licenced so can have to much or to little of said products in and be a problem in themselves.

Sorry Muddy, we agree on a lot of things, but not this. A good quality generic multi vit and min would benefit most of of the population (in my opinion).

And if someone researches vit d deficiency, they will come across a number of suggestions to go to their doctor for tests before supplementing. They will also learn that huge doses are needed before excess dosing is achieved - and what those doses are.

I am fortunate to have seen my parents live to their 80s. They have taken dietary supplements consistently (and sensibly) since the 1970s. And they have better joints, skintone, clear eyes and activity levels than most people in their sixties.

I honestly don't know why anyone who complains of fatigue isn't automatically tested for full thyroid panel, Vitamin D3, B12 and folate. Anyone who has been on metformin and/or been on a PPI drug will have absorption issues with vitamins and minerals. Magnesium deficiency can also be a huge issue for people with Type 2.

There's also some evidence that obesity is linked to malnutrition - if your body is not getting the nutrients you need from the food you eat, you will be more inclined to overeat.

I agree with the above comments. Tiredness can be caused by the following and if you think they apply to you, get it checked out.

  1. High blood sugar
  2. Vitamin D deficiency
  3. Vitamin B12 deficiency (can be caused by long term use of metformin)
  4. Iron deficiency anaemia
  5. Underactive Thyroid
  6. Depression.
  7. Stress
  8. Sleep Apnea

Brunneria to disagree is fine but to keep suggesting it when it is dangerous is irresponsible. And yes l am aware of the amounts needed l have just been on said doses. After a month l had a 2nd blood test and was stopped as l was heading for too high.
l am due another blood test 1 month on from stopping (will be overdue when taken by couple of weeks) to see what is happening and further decisions taken. And a close eye taken on ratios so problems do not develop. Esp as a t2 your body is not functioning at full throttle and vit D is tied up in the immune system as is t2

Yes l disagree with lot of things that drs do/say but in some things l don't and this is well known and easy to do science so l make use of them. There is also comments made about possible problems and by not dealing properly it allows potential problems to get worse.

l thought l had menopause due to a red herring comment by a gyno..l had t2. Had she not made the comment l would have been dx a long time ago l just didnt want the pill so put up with hell and 3yrs of damage to my body.

I suggest you also learn about the wonderful vitamin and nutrician supplement industry and how they operate outside the need for any legal framework. The eu wanted to force them to put in what was on their label but there was uproar and it was dropped...very stupid to my mind as studies show that 99% of the time what it says isnt what it is, and if it is it is substandard. And that is across the board to assume it is a big well known company is just as dangerous.

The safest way to take vitamins and minerals is to eat healthy not to rush out for supplements. And if in any doubt go see the dr

This forum is wonderful because I t allows us to set out our different opinions for people to make up their own minds, so thank you for yours.

One thing that makes me :) about this particular exchange is that, of all the unwise and irresponsible things I have done in my life, recommending a good quality multi vit/min and a google search has to be fairly far down the list.;)
