Too much weight loss

I am recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes based on an ac1 test score of 6.5. No meds were prescribed. I adopted a low carb, low caloric intake diet to manage blood glucose levels. I lost 15lbs in 6wks, going from 125lbs down to 115. Now I am too skinny and do not look well. My meter readings are always within normal range. I am afraid to try to regain some weight back to look better. I seem to have plateaued at 115lbs. Should I try to regain at least 5lbs?

do you body-build ? I think you should do a lot of fitness and eat a lot more so that your mucles get bigger and so that you are able to eat more without getting more diabetic... muscle building is what I´d suggest as it is longtime beneficial and much more comforting when you then actully can eat a lot more.... but only eat more when you actually do burn more

Thanks Freema. I do daily aerobics and weight lifting, but perhaps I will step-up my routine.

you could experiment a bit try to eat a little more before you exercise and see if you blood glucose do raise at all
like 25 grams of something, for a week, and next week try 50 grams of something...with carbs of cause

my real issue is whether I must stay at this low weight in order to maintain glucose control or if I can afford to gain a few more pounds without jeopardizing control.

only you can find out that ... its a risk of cause... so therefore train more eat more and gain mucles instead of fat

When you say you've one too thin as that based on some form of BMI range or how you look and what others say?

I'm not a disciple to the concept of BMI, but it's a decent ruleof thumb in those who are not elite athlete or particularly muscular in nature.

Many people comment that other in their lives; whether family, friends or colleagues, when somoen loses weight. Sometimes it's because the weight loss is rapid, and in those circumstances many fin they lose from their faces, necks and other potentially non-flattering areas. Some can be a bit envious, ans some simply think it's odd, and a matter for concern where weightloss is rapid.

When I trimmed up from having luuuurve handles to being very slight the reactions were mixed, from those who have known me a long time being a bit concerned when "weight fell off me" (It did), to those who just thought I must be a really fit g*t, being so slight. I recall one night a chap repeatedly asking me (in a bar, so wobbly water had been in play for him) if I was an Ultra Marathon runners as I'm rather sinewy. MrB just spent the evening laughing at me swatting this Hawaiian off! He had a fixation with my calves. (No accounting for taste.)

So, I guess what I'm saying is looks can be so influential. Of course how you feel about yourself is very important. If you really dislike yourself that's not a healthy place to be. If you feel fine, but wish you had some more padding in x or y place, then take it steady and maybe just try to stabilise, as opposed to gain or lose.

Nobody knows where their optimal weight is, and certainly T2s or borderline T2s certainly don't want to be yo-yoing. Why not consider trying to stabilise your weight until your next set of bloods, then decide what to do.

Just a thought but you could have a hyperactive thyroid. Speak with your doctor and ask if you can have blood tests.

If you want to regain a bit of weight try upping the good fats in your diet rather than carbs. Also weight training is a great idea - it really helps and helps the body deal with any excess carbs too. So go back to normal calories with added fats and see if that gets you where you want to be.

It depends on your height. 115 lbs might be your perfect weight. Even if it has cost you your curves..
Don't hold back on the fats. Buy your clothes a size smaller, and count your blessings. You are in control of a dangerous condition. Yay for you!
