I’m thrilled! I do feel very lucky, but there’s been a lot of work behind the scenes on my part - logging absolutely every dose and carb on my Libre scanner, up to 18 injections a day when I’ve needed a lot of corrections all through the day and night, so I could upload it to Diasend for my team to see, for half a year now. Comprehensive data has been the key to getting this - I take my temperature every morning to try and track my cycle because of the monthly hormone induced insulin resistance; I measure my intake of not just carbs but protein as well, as I need to bolus for that an hour or two after the meal. I’ve also had to work out a set of ratios for the different times I get dawn phenomenon, it’s different doses when it hits at 3am to when it hits at 7... I am more than happy to help anyone who want to collect data to strengthen their case for a pump.
Initially they just looked at the Libreview graphs and said I was doing fine, as it rarely went over 10mmol - for some reason all the meticulous logging on the scanner hadn’t uploaded because the data from when I used my phone to scan overrode it with no data (I hadn’t recorded it on both). It was only when I uploaded my scanner remotely into their own Diasend system that they could see the gazillions of injections I’ve been having to do to get even that much control. Six months might seem quick, but it’s been very intensive! My whining on here about how frustrated I’ve been getting with my issues have only been the top of the iceberg...
So in a way it’s happenned very quickly in the same way that a band who have been playing grotty gigs for ages get “overnight success”![]()
I use dextrose tabs because nobody likes them.
Including me.

I too am a raspberry GlucoTabber and share your thoughts on the orange ones.
However, I have found the cheapest way to buy them is in bulk on eBay.
I have kept a couple of GlucoTab tubes and refill them from the large tubs. If definitely saves me money.
I tend to set an alarm on my scanner for an 2 hours after I eat, so I can catch the start of a protein rise and try to squash it by bolus it for it at half the dose for carbs. Depends on the protein though - white fish and prawns always need a dose, fatty fish, eggs and plant protein tend not to. All good fun...wow- always been impressed with your close monitoring. Congratulations on getting your pump. Defo something I want to push for - once I have jumped a few other hurdles.
I’ve never injected for protein post meal- like you my body needs insulin for protein too. Now to think about it... I do tend to go hypo after I have pre-bolused for a protein heavy meal *duh*
Had great BG levels from 5pm yesterday 6.8 then 6.5 at bedtime. All through the night a couple of checks 7.1 then back to 6.7 at 7am this morning. Think I have this diabetes carry on cracked NOT
Had 2 slices of toast each 11 grammes of carbs and poached eggs and took 6 units to combat this, ratio of 1:4. Sitting here at 10.15 and its 11.8. WHAT how did that happen. Now taking a correction dose to bring me down
2 steps forward 1 step backwards. GRRRRRRR
School was not great for me. Was either hypo and in detention for being "disruptive" or hyper and lethargic! You are not the only one who gets petulant @porl69. I remember getting a detention or two at school because of my behaviour during hypos. Back then teachers did not understand.
Good morning (just) all. Busy busy in work so couldn't sneak on here. Woke to an 11 which was a bit of a surprise. Correction with breakfast....an hour later 10.9! Correction dose.....tested again at 11am and 10.8 grrrrrrrrr correction dose......and now 7.4. My body is not liking insulin at all today.
Dextro tabs taste like talcum powder to me....just can't eat them.

A lot of people prefer them, but they’re prone to theft and over eating because they’re lovely! Then you’ve got a JB hyper to deal with... sadly I’m allergic to gelatine, so they’re not an option for me.Gluco tabs are horrible like eating chalk dust
Recently discovered jelly beans although not convinced they raise BG levels quick enough. Are jelly babies better at raising BG?

I actually prefer using Dex tabs because they’re not enjoyable - they’re a medicine for a medical purpose. A hypo isn’t a time for a “treat”, IMO, you’re usually not in the right frame of mind for a treat anyway. Have a treat when you’d really enjoy it, and dose for it if you need.
But but but but ...
The Daily Express says you just eat 10 jelly beans and "maintain blood sugar levels" (https://www.express.co.uk/life-styl...-blood-sugar-levels-jelly-beans-hypoglycaemia)
They also say eat four ***** bears (https://www.express.co.uk/life-styl...1-diet-raise-blood-sugar-levels-hypoglycaemia)
I gave up looking for near identical articles after that.
(Both jelly beans and ***** bears are better than chocolate for hypos!)
