Morning y'all :) 6.7 waking which is pleasing after yesterday waking hypo, 60g jumbo oats wanting eating and poached eggs & bread for a second course, the eggs and bread were hit and miss on Lantus but not now and I like that :)

A week in on Tresiba today and I'm still reasonably happy about it....

Morning everyone,

after a few zigzaggy days, which was the wrong sort of exciting, I'd chose bored over that, any time. Last night was good. I'm hoping for a reasonably stable day, without the hypos, that I've recently been having. Whether that is what I'll actually get is another matter.

I’m thrilled! I do feel very lucky, but there’s been a lot of work behind the scenes on my part - logging absolutely every dose and carb on my Libre scanner, up to 18 injections a day when I’ve needed a lot of corrections all through the day and night, so I could upload it to Diasend for my team to see, for half a year now. Comprehensive data has been the key to getting this - I take my temperature every morning to try and track my cycle because of the monthly hormone induced insulin resistance; I measure my intake of not just carbs but protein as well, as I need to bolus for that an hour or two after the meal. I’ve also had to work out a set of ratios for the different times I get dawn phenomenon, it’s different doses when it hits at 3am to when it hits at 7... I am more than happy to help anyone who want to collect data to strengthen their case for a pump.

Initially they just looked at the Libreview graphs and said I was doing fine, as it rarely went over 10mmol - for some reason all the meticulous logging on the scanner hadn’t uploaded because the data from when I used my phone to scan overrode it with no data (I hadn’t recorded it on both). It was only when I uploaded my scanner remotely into their own Diasend system that they could see the gazillions of injections I’ve been having to do to get even that much control. Six months might seem quick, but it’s been very intensive! My whining on here about how frustrated I’ve been getting with my issues have only been the top of the iceberg...

So in a way it’s happenned very quickly in the same way that a band who have been playing grotty gigs for ages get “overnight success” :)

wow- always been impressed with your close monitoring. Congratulations on getting your pump . Defo something I want to push for - once I have jumped a few other hurdles.

I’ve never injected for protein post meal- like you my body needs insulin for protein too. Now to think about it... I do tend to go hypo after I have pre-bolused for a protein heavy meal *duh*

I use dextrose tabs because nobody likes them.

Including me.

:D

I use Glucose Tabs from Tesco and the orange ones taste......well odd the rasberry ones are rather nice :)

Well after last night gym and pizza I woke up at a 3.2, "which was nice" :wideyed: usual face full of brekky spilt the old morning dose running now mid 5's.

Hopefully the Lantus in this morning as well should catch the possible breakky spike........dun dun duuurrrrrrrrr!!!!!!! :shifty: watch this space, still experimenting with this :bookworm:

Had great BG levels from 5pm yesterday 6.8 then 6.5 at bedtime. All through the night a couple of checks 7.1 then back to 6.7 at 7am this morning. Think I have this diabetes carry on cracked NOT

Had 2 slices of toast each 11 grammes of carbs and poached eggs and took 6 units to combat this, ratio of 1:4. Sitting here at 10.15 and its 11.8. WHAT how did that happen. Now taking a correction dose to bring me down

2 steps forward 1 step backwards. GRRRRRRR

I too am a raspberry GlucoTabber and share your thoughts on the orange ones.
However, I have found the cheapest way to buy them is in bulk on eBay.
I have kept a couple of GlucoTab tubes and refill them from the large tubs. If definitely saves me money.

Oh interesting on the EBay bulk buy, never though of that, I have tubes of them dotted all over the place.

Morning! Had to correct at half one and half three due to soaring levels triggering my alarms, but got up at 9ish with a 6.4, so that was nice. Hovering in the mid sevens now, dribbling in Novorapid pump stylee every hour or so - I have increased my Tresiba a little, but don’t want to risk spending days with too much sloshing around that I can’t get rid of if this period of resistance suddenly stops. It’s all far to “interesting” just now...

I use the orange dextro energy tabs, they’re two packs for a quid in Home Bargains. I prefer the lemon ones, but they’re 70p a pack only in my local pharmacy, so can't always justify that! Don’t like the blackcurrant or tropical ones. A little while ago the pharmacy was giving away little storage tins for them, so I collected a few of those, but can only locate one... @Knikki - you can bulk buy on Amazon too, a friend does this, but she has more hypos than me.

Hope you all have diabetically boring days, with nice predictable results!

I tend to set an alarm on my scanner for an 2 hours after I eat, so I can catch the start of a protein rise and try to squash it by bolus it for it at half the dose for carbs. Depends on the protein though - white fish and prawns always need a dose, fatty fish, eggs and plant protein tend not to. All good fun...

Well that was interesting.

Gets to 11:30 and looks like the brekky spike is starting to hit, so much for Lantus increase at 6:00am :spitoutdummy: although saying that, it might also be a bit of the good ol gluacon dump as well from earlier on. :cat:

Oh well a couple of units of Nova Sluggish and were on our way YAY! :woot:

@Mel dCP Thanks I will go have a mooch around Amazon later :)

I think there's a diabetes gremlin who's a bit of an attention seeker, if things start going too well, he/she will come and mess things up a bit.

Good morning (just) all. Busy busy in work so couldn't sneak on here. Woke to an 11 which was a bit of a surprise. Correction with breakfast....an hour later 10.9! Correction dose.....tested again at 11am and 10.8 grrrrrrrrr correction dose......and now 7.4. My body is not liking insulin at all today.
Dextro tabs taste like talcum powder to me....just can't eat them.
You are not the only one who gets petulant @porl69. I remember getting a detention or two at school because of my behaviour during hypos. Back then teachers did not understand.
School was not great for me. Was either hypo and in detention for being "disruptive" or hyper and lethargic!

Same for me school wise they where very ignorant of the illness. I was six by the time my family realised something was wrong. But I believe I was 4 when diabetes started. My son was diagnosed at 21 doctors keep saying he was type 2 . Would not accept that I knew what I was talking about. Any who took him to another surgery and it was the nurse that agreed with me yeee.his type 1. For two days my bs have been 22.2 arrrrr no matter what I did would not come down extra insulin no food scrubbed house from top to bottom took my dogs out had lots of sex sweat pouring off me no nothing pulling my bloody hair out. 1 day before had 3 hypos with no fast acting being took. Come on body what the hell xxx

Gluco tabs are horrible like eating chalk dust

Recently discovered jelly beans although not convinced they raise BG levels quick enough. Are jelly babies better at raising BG?

A lot of people prefer them, but they’re prone to theft and over eating because they’re lovely! Then you’ve got a JB hyper to deal with... sadly I’m allergic to gelatine, so they’re not an option for me.

I actually prefer using Dex tabs because they’re not enjoyable - they’re a medicine for a medical purpose. A hypo isn’t a time for a “treat”, IMO, you’re usually not in the right frame of mind for a treat anyway. Have a treat when you’d really enjoy it, and dose for it if you need.

The answer comes down to the glycemic index which translates to 'just about but not quite'. Jelly beans have a GI of 78 whereas Glucotabs have a GI of 100.

When I am having a petulant 5 year old hypo there would be zero chance of getting me to eat something I wont enjoy, whereas wave a couple of jelly babies in front of my face and they are gone. Totally agree with you thou @Mel dCP they do tend to be eaten by the misses and her son BUT there are always emergency ones in the box for me :)

But but but but ...

The Daily Express says you just eat 10 jelly beans and "maintain blood sugar levels" (https://www.express.co.uk/life-styl...-blood-sugar-levels-jelly-beans-hypoglycaemia)

They also say eat four ***** bears (https://www.express.co.uk/life-styl...1-diet-raise-blood-sugar-levels-hypoglycaemia)

I gave up looking for near identical articles after that.

(Both jelly beans and ***** bears are better than chocolate for hypos!)
