Morning, @himtoo did I say to put me down as a provisional for M/CR a bit too far in the future for a definite answer. I might be roaming.Hi Sue.... consider yourself invited !!!!!! next meet 12th october -- manchester -- venue TBC -- i will be posting on forum about it once we have a venue
It has taken me some time to trust the Libre. The main things that help me are
- test against finger pricks at least twice a day
- test against finger pricks if Libre says above 8
- test against finger pricks if Libre says below 4
- test with finger pricks if I am doing something (like exercise) which will make my BG change quickly
- use an app (Glimp, in my case) which allows calibration against finger pricks
- realise there is so much approximation going on (carb values in food is an approximation, BG is an approximation, insulin to carb ratio is an approximation) that an in accurate Libre reading (within the range I mentioned above) is not a huge thing.
- I use the short term trends to work out whether to do more or less of a correction. If the graph (not the arrows because they seems to only be based on the last two values) is going up, I assume my BG will be going up so add 0.3 to my current BG. Likewise, if the graph is going down, I subtract 0.3.
The DSN at my surgery said I'm the best controlled they've got! Once I'd picked myself up off the floor (from rolling around laughing) she told me she was being serious,
Thanks @slip, I'd love to take you up on the offer if I'm here. Lovely BG I want to be a 5I'm not as well control as some on here (Mel to name but one!) and I think at every clinic appointment it is mentioned that I am better than most other patients.....by a long way, or when discussing hba1cs they say I'm doing ok considering they regularly see results in the teens! We on here are not normal T1s!
Just a normal 5.4 for me this morning
I'm up for the Cotswold meet up - and as I say happy to 'taxi' the Oxford contingent (@SueJB @ert and anyone else)
Ok lovely people.
Favourite crisps past or present??????????? ( let’s include wheat, savoury, corn snacks )
1. Hula hoops.
2. Cool Doritos.
3. Walkers ready salted.
Notable mentions. Mc Coys cheddar and onion. Mini Cheddars.
Thanks for your thoughts @helensaramay.I want to be between 4 and 7 and my Libre target is between 4 and 10.
Whilst my bolus calculator is set with an absolute target, I know I will only reach it in passing.
Our bodies do not work that way.
Even people without diabetes do not work that way. I keep coming back to the student who published his Libre graphs online who had a BG in the 9s. And my boyfriend has seen a BG below 4. These guys have a working pancreas but even after millions of years of evolution, a healthy pancreas cannot stick at 5.
I see no way someone with a year or so of experience can do it.
As you keep suggesting, I think you need to chill and be happy if your BG is within a wider range and not stress if it is slightly outside.
Sue, I may be sounding a bit harsh (especially as I am suggesting you chill) but this extra pressure you are putting yourself under will make diabetes management harder.
Sure, I wouldn't suggest you ignore diabetes and I wouldn't suggest you are happy with a BG in the teens but it is about balance: how much of your life do you want to spend perfecting your BG and how much of your life doing you want to spend living with an ok BG?
I don’t eat breakfast....I'm like Mel - if I get brekkie munched within an hour or so of getting up, all is well. If not - just watch that blood go up!
Good morning, well my BG hasn't behaved well, the so n' so !
I don't know if any vegans or vegtiarians have tried this product that I am promoting today,
Rhythm108 : All products are vegan friendly, gluten free and contain 100% organic ingredients. All Tea Biscuit share bag packaging is fully compostable. The biscuits are made with wholegrain oat flour, nuts, coconut flower sugar, and pure coconut oil (no palm oil or margarine), this simple biscuit is full of flavour and has the perfect ‘buttery’ crunch. The chocolate bars have a creamy oat filling, and are dipped in a delicious Swiss Chocolate that takes 3 days to make. They are super tasty and delicious:
It's normally quiet on a Monday,so hoping it will be a bit more livelier with the children on summer holidays.
Happy Monday
I’d agree on that. I still log whenever I blood test or dose/eat in MySugr, and that gives a good idea.I think Time in Range is being recognised now as a useful addition to HBA1c, for assessing control.
I saw recently on twitter a recommendation that being 70% in range where the range is 4 -10.0 is recommended, and seen as good. You should be able to calculate TIR using finger prick testing, presumably there's something out there can help, and someone knows what it is. @SueJB
You have to make the assumption, obviously, that between fingerprick testing your blood sugar isn't doing any really crazy things, but I think that's a good target to set yourself, that isn't too stressful.
I tried to find the original tweet I saw, by an HCP, but they're all too busy talking about pensions and there was too much to wade through to find it.

The tweet probably was about this: https://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/914551#vp_2I think Time in Range is being recognised now as a useful addition to HBA1c, for assessing control.
