Type 1'stars R Us

Goodnight guys, work tomorrow promoting vegan biscuits. So, sleep tight all and lets hope BG's behave themselves for the start of the week :)

I'm puzzled - why not just tell the pump to bolus a unit or two?
Because effectively the liver dumps carbs. So if I tell Elvis 10g fast carbs are coming, it’ll bolus for those, and my liver delivers them. If I just say to bolus (say) 1.5u it’ll just reduce the basal rate to make up for that. It can react to slow rises and cover those with temp basals, but this seems to be the best way to deal with surges. It’s not a perfect system, so sometimes I need to lie to it.

Ta, so what's the difference do you think between dawn phenomenon and liver dump? or am I over analysing?
Foot on the floor seems to happen about an hour after I wake up; dawn phenomenon around 3am. YDMV x

Did another correction as it hadn't gone down. Now seeing a scary drop in my graph and a down arrow :(
I guess sleeping has to wait some longer while I wait to see what happens.
Possibly I even get to eat crisps :)

Sending you hugs!
That happens to me as well so I end up not sleeping. Some times my bf waits with me in case I need help. :arghh:

Luckily no boyfriend here,as not needing help with eating crisps. Although the dogs insist I need help with that.
BG seems to be levelling out again so I'm afraid there won't be crisps in the dogs' and my near future :(

Sounds like you have a very loving boyfriend!

You got the dog's hopes up! :hilarious: I can help you eat the crisps though. ;)
He is very sweet, :)

I'm like Mel - if I get brekkie munched within an hour or so of getting up, all is well. If not - just watch that blood go up!

Morning all - I have to go to work today after my very happy couple of days off. I don't wanna go mummy! Don't make me!

Then again, it's payday this week and if I don't go in and deal with it none of us gets paid ....... I might go in after all :joyful::joyful:

I've sometimes wondered about this. As you say, foot on floor is well recognised, so if you've got x grams coming in from breakfast and y grams coming in from the liver, does the morning ratio appear higher because we're not including the y grams in the arithmetic?

I suspect that if we had a way of measuring the y grams, the ratio might not be that far away from later in the day ratios.

I've more or less solved the issue by being bone idle and not getting up till about 2pm...

That is an interesting idea. Whichever way it is a PIA!

SueJB, the dawn phenomenon, also called the dawn effect, is the term used to describe an abnormal early-morning increase in blood sugar (glucose) — usually between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m. — in people with diabetes. It doesn't occur in normal people or in people managing their insulin. I certainly don't experience it now that I've started using insulin.
The liver dump is something that can be controlled by eating breakfast as Scott-C suggests, but it's not something I'm experiencing. I thought it more a type 2 problem or someone with insulin resistance, which I don't have. It's something Dr Jason Fung writes about.
Dr Berinstein writes about gluconeogenesis, which is where your muscle and vital organs are broken into glucose and thereby raising blood sugars, happening when you don't have enough insulin. I've certainly experienced this before starting insulin.

Well I am on insulin and consider myself managing it for the last 5 years but I still get DP from 3am. Foot on the floor for me is literally foot on the floor rocket! Interestingly I can have DP for a few weeks then have a few days where it doesn’t happen. Lovely straight Libre line from going to bed til 6 in the morning. I get up to the loo and off it goes vroom!

Good morning, well my BG hasn't behaved well, the so n' so !
I don't know if any vegans or vegtiarians have tried this product that I am promoting today,

Rhythm108 : All products are vegan friendly, gluten free and contain 100% organic ingredients. All Tea Biscuit share bag packaging is fully compostable. The biscuits are made with wholegrain oat flour, nuts, coconut flower sugar, and pure coconut oil (no palm oil or margarine), this simple biscuit is full of flavour and has the perfect ‘buttery’ crunch. The chocolate bars have a creamy oat filling, and are dipped in a delicious Swiss Chocolate that takes 3 days to make. They are super tasty and delicious:
It's normally quiet on a Monday,so hoping it will be a bit more livelier with the children on summer holidays.
Happy Monday :)

We've got sunshine!!!
Madam's within range
I've lost 1.5lbs pounds better than 0.7k so all's well in my world.
Happy Monday everyone

Morning everyone, went a bit high yesterday afternoon/evening, after over correcting in both directions, and having a zig zag event. Blood sugar was ok overnight though.

On DP/footonthefloor, and all that stuff, I find, on a good day, my blood sugar rises a little during the night, around 3 am, and a bit more when I wake up, and have a first cup of coffee, but nothing unmanageable. Depending on how much it rises at any of those points, I will correct, which then feeds into decision making at the next stage. If I correct about 3 or 4 am I rarely need to correct for FOTF, so it depends. I always eat breakfast, because I like it, and I find mornings, now, reasonably stable, much more than pre-libre. The afternoons can be a bit wonky now, but that's mostly bad decision making on my part, and a bit of unpredictability.

Massively reducing the carbs I eat in the evening made my overnight blood sugar more stable, and fed into the morning readings too, I'm sure. I don't really eat an evening meal now, which is, I suppose, a bit anti-social, but until a certain person gets his act together I'll carry on like that.

Everyone is different, so have to find a way of managing things that works for them, but this is my experience.

None of this could have been done without Libre. I used to do 10 or 11 blood tests a day before, and didn't have anything like the full picture of what my blood sugar was doing during the day, that I have now. So I've adapted how I do things, to fit me, and to work better in terms of what seems to be going on. It's taken a while to get it anywhere close to right, and afternoons still aren't quite right.

I certainly haven't been doing this long on insulin, and I still finger prick multiple times a day so we may be talking about different data. I don't believe my Libre but it's very useful for trends.

Hi, @himtoo , stick me down as a provisional "yes" for the Manchester meet!

Only a few hours on the train from Edinburgh, I trotted down there for a short holiday a year or two ago purely because the Hairy Bikers mentioned Mancunian black pudding Scotch eggs and wanted to try them, couldn't find them anywhere, so some local knowledge second time round may help!
duly noted and written in my official book of provisional attendees !!!:)

I'd like to try a Libre but can't afford it privately and I'm not sure I fit the criteria. Although I eat a lot, veggies tend to be fairly low carb'ish so I do have fairly good control. I nip up and down the numbers like a flea on a dog sometimes, but there's usually a reason and once I've worked out what it is, then I can deal with it. The DSN at my surgery said I'm the best controlled they've got! Once I'd picked myself up off the floor (from rolling around laughing) she told me she was being serious, and on that basis there are some far more deserving cases than mine for the NHS to fund.

Maybe I could win a bunch of money? *is hopeful*

Mornin’ teabags, hope nobody flooded.
Ruddy T1’s not playing ball, reduce night time basal again I think. But will see what the diabeast does for the rest of the day. Slightly alarmingly pred text turned diabeast into DKA east but I’m reluctant to call my iPad Cassandra.
Off to the last day of mud pie making today before resuming in September.
Those biscuits sound too delicious, @Robinredbreast. Can you sample them too just to reassure the punters they’re good? Do you have to learn each spiel by heart for the products you promote?
Have a good day everyone.
