Porridge has a mind of it's own, and refuses to conform to the behaviour ascribed to it in books by dietitians.

This is true. :)

An old Scotsman told me how to make porridge years ago, to mix it with water and leave to stand over night, he said with a pinch of salt but I don't use salt, I weigh 60g on digital scales (56g/100g carbs) and am wondering if I could wash this in a sieve before soaking as I always rinse my cooked rice till the waters clean and the rice is cold.

An experiment for next week perhaps :)

It’s a bit of a hike but worth it - used to play in the old fort when I was a kid!

My family moved to Weston-Super-Mare when I was about 14, and they lived at Uphill. I remember seeing Brean Down when we walked to the beach, I don't remember ever going there, though, strangely.

We used to go a lot to Worlebury Hill, though.

The RNLI spend a lot of time in the summer rescuing grockles (holiday makers) who think they can walk from Uphill to Brean Down when the tide is out - one family from the Midlands were rescued three years in a row!!

I remember hearing those stories. Maybe that's why, at some subliminal level, we always avoided going there, even by road, then foot.

blinking basal tests

6.30 Woke up on 6.1 gave my morning levemir plus 1 unit of quick acting

Lunchtime 6.0

2.30- 4.3

3.30 - libre said 3.9 so I drank lucozade before checking with my meter and then found I was 4.6 (so a false low- did not feel hypo!!)

4pm- libre shows 6 and rising. Meter 5.9

Wondering if my bloods would have held steady at 4.6 now. Annoyed as I haven’t eaten today just to get this done in one go.

Any thoughts? Is my morning basal too much?

Grrrrrrr:banghead: so after my standard size porridge my bloods started rising, usually this requires a unit or two and I'm trending high at the moment, so I had 2u and dropped to 3.4 at work in 2 hours....

Meh.

Ah pain. Porridge sends my levels awol.

I make my own low carb porridge (recipe suggested by members on another thread). It tastes good and keeps my bloods steady

I'm back after my little moan this morning sorry about that :)

Once I've gotten back into range this morning I've so far managed to stay there (*touches all the nearby wood*).

I do enjoy porridge a couple of times a week - needs a solid 40 minute pre-bolus though! I'm not a morning person either so the patience required doesn't always happen.

Depends what you want. I let my blood sugar run in the 4s, low 5s in the afternoon, because I can, and I like it. But if it's not convenient that you probably need to reduce it a bit. Be interesting to see if it rises before the next Levemir dose.

I had a look at various porridge carbs just then whilst shopping, and the lowest was 48g/100g and that was an 'oat bran one, tbh I'm not looking for a low carb porridge per-se, but more a consistent carb portion, so I'm going to try using a holed colander as a sieve to remove dust and smaller pieces then rinse it.

I do so love porridge :D on the 5 out of 7 days it works.

@Mel dCP . That's unfortunate but at least you've not started everyone extolling the virtues of different sock wear:):)
Anyway whilst your here. I still haven't figured out your twice moderated word.
It's gotta be online " hangman " now.
Is there an .....e......

I would say so - take that with a pinch of forum rules though!

Didn't your last attempt fail with a low mid afternoon? bit of a clue if it did.

Yep last time I went hypo in the morning but put that down to the quick acting I gave on waking.

Will knock it down half a unit at a time :)
