Yep - hugs to all who are on the Big D Rollercoaster today! The weather here is very oppressive - damp and it feels oddly cool, but it's hot if you move round. I'm putting my own ticket on the ride down to that!

I was explaining to a friend yesterday about the utterly contrary nature of diabetes... "Some days it's a toddler, some days it's a teenager, some days it needs only basic attention, but it seems to work if I treat it like I treat my students and assume no two days are ever going to be the same or which I'm going to wake up and find it's going to be."

Still, I woke up on a perfect number this morning, after a 3.00 a.m. extra bolus to account for the Train Journey Cheese and Onion Pasty effect. (I do this particular trip 3 or 4 times a year, and was delighted insulin meant I could go back to my treat meal of a pasty from the pasty shop at the station - which would have not been at all possible in my meds/diet-controlled T2 days) I'd previously got it sussed for not eating all the pastry crust and eating it at lunchtime on the way to friend's house, but I had it on the way home this time, ate all the crust because I wanted to, but then didn't walk most of the effects off as I usually do on this particular kind of day. Plus, I think I'm suffering a bit from End of Levemir Pen Effect as I've had to add an extra couple of units for the last few days. That pen's just finished so I'll go back to the usual amount with the new pen.

Last day of being sociable for this half term before hunkering down into total introvert mode for a few days - or the last six weeks of the academic year will be a nightmare! I do only cope with the extroverted nature of my working life by being relatively anti-social for much of the out of term time weeks.

...............and some days I want to give diabetes a dam good thrashing, like Basil Fawlty did when his car kept playing up in Fawlty Towers.
Can't show the clip as it has a naughty word in it, but so funny :hilarious:

Last time I tried to get through to my surgery on the phone it took - and I counted - 31 calls.

Now I make appointments, get test results and submit prescription requests on line and only speak to them when they ring me.

If I actually needed to ring a receptionist I'd have to prepare myself for a morning of total frustration!

I have had an offer of a permanent role as School Escort, up until the end of summer term, mid July I think it is, so 5 days a week. I have 2 hospital appointment in June,I told transport manager and she will get cover for those.
I'm so pleased :)

@Robinredbreast - that is wonderful news! I am so pleased for you  I hope you get taken out to celebrate!

Aaaww thank you :) maybe a meal out on Sunday ? as I am cooking tonight...........and no coconut in sight ;):D
Spanish chicken and GF lemon mug cakes, for two:)

Aaaah. The receptionists at my surgery must take lessons at being so useless.
Last week, I went in and the receptionist was literally twisting her hair around her finger as she said "I don't know".

Today, I called because I had received a copy of the letter from the hospital requesting the surgery add Libre to my prescription. Today's receptionist explained they had not received the letter because of the bank holiday weekend ... even though mine arrived in the post!

I am going to have to take my copy to show them and get them to do the prescription. It has only taken 2 weeks for them to do absolutely nothing.

Sorry for the rant, I had to get it off my chest.
Thank you for listening. You can go back to whatever you were doing.

Busy doing nothing, by the sounds of it :wideyed:
Back to making lunch now :)

Woopsie, I dropped to 6.6 after my breakfast, then now to 1.9. I don't know what happened, because I didn't feel funky until now. My bf bought a different kind of oreos today - birthday party, it tasted good to my diabetes and hormone friends. :hilarious:

what are you now, has it gone up ?

Weston Super Mare? No idea what its like just always one of those place I should gone to but never been :)

My brother and sister in law lived there and I went for a holiday in WSM decades ago, If my memory serves me right, there was a lovely village called Dunster ? Also WSM isn't far way from Cheddar Gorge :)

I grew up in Bridgwater, just down the road from Weston Super Mud... as @helensaramay says, Banksy had the right venue... we used to go swimming at the Tropicana Lido for a treat...

At the Science Museum today. Picked manchild up at St Pancreas (he trained in from Milton Keynes as his with his dad for half term) and spending today and tomorrow with us. Bodyworld tomorrow :)

D running ok, just having problems with my Fitbit connecting to my phone. Rebooted everything and seems to be ok now.

OK - steaks ready to grill tonight, creamy coconut (sorry @Robinreadbreast) mushrooms done and just need warming up. Bacon is in the oven and has another 35 minutes, then it gets sliced into rashers. I think it will make about 40.

Other than that, I want a shower! I have bags of time before my potato needs to go in the oven, and the green veg will be steamed which is always quick.

@Knikki and @SueJB I have been to Weston S'Mare. The sand sculptures are amazing when they have them but let's just say I wasn't surprised Banksy chose the place to host Dismaland a few years ago. I think, like many English beach resorts, it has had its day.

Sue, have you thought of Chichester harbour?
You can get to the city easily by train and then there are buses to places like Bosham in one direction and the Witterings in the other.
My grandparents all lived in Chichester so I used to visit the area as a kid and it still retains its charm
Nice idea, been to Chichester but never the harbour

Mmm, cellophane :)

I mostly know Bridgwater from the bike shop - we got our first tandem there on the way back from Cornwall. My wife claims she was drugged by having run out of coffee in the morning.
I had a job over Christmas and new year at the cellophane factory when I was at uni. Messy.

Did the smell stick .... :joyful::joyful::joyful:

The bacon is done and sliced, and can go into storage when it's cool. That was a busy and productive day with some thoroughly edible results :hungry:

13.723 steps at the moment, yesterday was over 24,000, but I was so tired in the evening I forgot about it :rolleyes:

How annoying @Robinredbreast!

I didn't do much actual walking today but I was stood up moving around in the kitchen for a good four hours. Shame it doesn't count.
