Morning Folks

After being so full of myself yesterday morning I had a bit of a shock at tea time when I recorded 9.6!

I rewashed my hands and retested and still got 8.2.

By midnight I was up to 14 and only down to 7.5 this morning.

I am putting this down as a blip caused by the steroid injection I had in my knee yesterday as I saw a similar pattern last time I had one, which took about 3 days to come back to what I now think of as "Normal".

Any one come across this effect before?

Yep I know the feeling. I am on prednesolone for my brittle Asthma, when i have a attack or cold and the dose goes up so do my sugar levels. It's quite common for steroids to affect blood sugar levels. Quite oftern when I let my DN know the steroids have gone up she add a couple of extra units on my insulin and I make sure I drink lots of fluids

Hi all, am so sorry I've been AWOL over the last few weeks, term time is always busy but this term has been even worse than normal. Had to report my line manager for trying to bully me and it's all very unpleasant. I don't know if it's the stress or my cold but my BG numbers have gone up slightly and my weight loss has slowed, which is particularly irritating since I've steadfastly resisted my compulsion to comfort eat.
I got out for my first walk in a week yesterday and managed 7.9 miles, although the bl**dy runkeeper app stopped recording halfway round. Of course, I realise that the physical and mental benefits of the walk aren't dependent on having the runkeeper data as proof, but it's nice to be able to look back on my records when I need to reassure myself that I'm doing an awesome job!
Looking forward to spending a week with my own kids and catching up with other friends and family

Apologies for my absence as well, the last week or two has been a bit of a whirlwind. But on the plus side my cold is getting better and my bg has come down yay! I was 7.6 this morning. My son is now on half term so I'm taking the opportunity to relax a bit

5.4 this morning, after hypo at 2:30 this morning. Woke up really sweaty and shaky went to the loo (that's what woke me up). I tested and was 3.1 had some glucose tabs and a cereal bar with a cup of tea and retested 15 mins later was 7.5 so went back to bed.

Loulou do you take insulin? Your lows are quite frequent aren't they. You sound like you have a good method of rectifying any hypo without overdoing it.
Often my mistake is over compensating. Thank you for sharing with us. I find it very helpful. :-)

7.5 again for me. I tested my verio iq with the control solution which ironically showed 7.5 too.
Does anyone know if the same solution will give different results or will or should show exactly the same reading everytime I use it on that meter?

Hope you've made a good recovery loulou hun. Hypo's can really wipe you out. Try & have a nice, easy day if you can. (((Hug))) X

Hi @Alzebra. Good on you for doing something about your bullying colleague. You've come a long way since diagnosis & turned your life around. So, don't you let anyone rain on your parade & make you feel like ****. Yes, it's unpleasant to have to go through something so horrid...but I bet you've put up with it for a long time hoping it would stop. Well, bully's don't stop unless they're confronted & brought to task. Dont let them get away with it...or twist it so they make you look as though you're too sensitive or paranoid. That's classic bullying behaviour. Look out for a book called "Bully in sight." Hugely helpful.

As for the weight loss...slow n steady wins the day. It's bound to plateau at some point, but you'll work through it. Try increasing your calorie intake for a few weeks before decreasing again. Kick starts the metabolism again. And yes, you are indeed doing an awesome job. Enjoy time with your family, and try not to worry about going back to work after half term. You've beaten bigger and badder. Big hug. X

Cheers @Alisonjane10 for the empathy, much appreciated  I'm not the only one who's been treated appallingly by this woman, but she's annoyingly persistent! I'm now keeping a diary of her jibes and insults, and my union rep is fantastic. The irony is that we are always being asked to promote the "anti-bullying" slogan of the month to the pupils whilst management are probably the worst offenders

FBG 5.0 this morning, and I'm still resisting the temptation to overeat - just!!

Don't worry I'll give lifescan a call tomorrow. They should know. :-)

7.7 fbg today but would love it have it 5 or around that scale. Got weighed yesterday and I've lost nothing. Still taking loads of insulin. I want at least some of this 8 stones overweight fat/muscle to go. I know I'm eating too much protein but I'm nibbling all the time instead of planned meals but to be honest I'm totally skint after paying high rent. Have applied for help but no guarantees. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for xmas money for kids. Otherwise it will be a thin christmas. For us all. :-(

Morning Folks

Levels slowly coming down after both a flu jab and - worse - the steroid injection. Down to 5.8 this morning which is a fair bit higher than I had got used to, but not too bad.

16 day rolling average has gone up to 5.52 from a nice low of 5.10 immediately before the steroid jab.

I reduced my Metformin from 4per day to 3 too, but until the streroid that didn't appear to be having any adverse effects.

Ickihun - our meters are not entirely accurate, and I think are only required to be within +/- 15% at 10m/mmol, and +/- 10% at 5mmol
What this means in practice is that you could expect to see a range of results anywhere from around 6.7 to 8.3 or so if you tested the same standard test solution multiple times, and the meter would still be considered fit for purpose.

My view is that - probably - you won't see that but I always take the view that individual results with small variations are probably irrelevant, the important thing is the ongoing trend - ie are they going up, or coming down.

Hi
Thought I would start posting on this thread again because we can comment and advise people here. My morning reading was 6.2 and I feel that they have gone a bit higher than I would like recently. About 3 months ago they were averaging 5.3 so I feel I need to be a little concerned and try to bring them down. I am not taking medication for diabetes so I am working on diet, weight control and exercise. My BMI is 20.6 now down from 25 when diagnosed so working on keeping weight stable and making sure I don't put weight on, I was finding it easier to control my fasting readings when I was losing weight. I don't test all meals but I don't seem to be spiking anything like as much as I was a few months ago. Last night 5.6 before evening meal and 2 hours later 5.9 which I was happy with, I can even cope with rice or pasta occasionally without spiking though I do tend to try to control portion size. I try and walk about 4 to 5 miles each day sometimes more. One thing I think affects me is stress. Then I get stressed because my blood sugars have gone up so viscous circle.

5.8 this morning. Going in the right direction. 5.1 before evening meal and back to 5.1 2 hours later so that I was really happy with. Did manage to walk over 8 miles again but wonder if I'm trying to walk too much as I feel exhausted.

Morning All

Had a 5.4 reading this morning and my 16 day average has now reached 5.61.

After recording 6.0 yesterday morning and 5.8 before tea I was thinking I'd maybe go back to 4 Metformin per day, but this mornings reading is a bit more encouraging and maybe I'll carry on with just the three for a bit longer.
