Type 2 Life

I take the SR variant, but I have never been on the 'bog standard' From what I can tell the SR has a coating that disolves more slowly. Initially I was on 1000g once a day, and now I'm on 500mg once a day. I usually take it in the evening just after dinner. Yes it played havoc with my tummy in the beginning, and sometimes it still does - no warning!! - I have no idea what impact it had on my BG's as I had already arrived here and following a reduced carb way WOL.
My HbA1C is such that I could probably stop altogether, but am reluctant to do so
Hello thanks for info, I took a tablet last night & this morning my sugars had gone up to 8.6! Never had that in the mornings before, took a tablet with breakfast & had terrible cramps & upset stomache, I'll try for week or two if still bothers me I'll phone DN & tell her I'm not taking anymore want to return to bog standard. Will try check my bgs & weight see if it has any effect. Thanks hope your well x

@maureen5752 have you seen this thread....?

http://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/metformin-sr-diagemet-xl-500-mg.76240/

Hope it helps.

Maybe ask a question in there and those taking sr will be able to respond.

I take the xl version after food but immediately after, as I put my dishes/ plate in the sink.
Mine has taken weeks to kick in, but worth it. No side affects which are unwanted.
Periods more regular and feel less heavy/solid in the mid drift.
Thanks for the info, interesting, the last bit of your txt, Periods more reqular! Been 10 years since I had that problem, feel for you x

Maybe wheat protects the nerves system, I don't know. On 30g carbs I get twitchy, faint and easily upset and heart palpatations. So I had to increase my carbs to 100g and was given a beta blocker. I reduced my thyroxine as blood test showed overactive thyroid so thought the continuing reduced palpatations were due to levothyroxine being too strong on 30g low carb. Throughout I didn't lose weight. I changed shape and lower bgs for me. My weight loss was due to high sugars but once they settled down with 30g carb and insulin I regained that loss.
I feel changing shape and weight loss then gain has caused my scatica nerve to get compressed and inflammation to be triggered. My sisters and mum had arthritis at 30yr old. I guess I'd been saved, til now. I guess I should be thankful I didn't suffer sooner.
Strange you mention the LCHF COD I started few months ago cutting down on my carbs & eating more fats, been in terrible pain, thought it was my arthritis getting worse but it's a different kind of pain & I'm less patient &. More stressful, I am under stress but what about the pain, I'm gonna start eating bit more carbs but not over eating them & see what happens. Hope you get better soon x

One thing I've learned about diabetes for me is extreme changes can cause trouble. Extreme highs changing to lows and vice versa. Constant highs or constant lows seem to trigger problems. Its the vessels changing quickly that shocks our system/s. I feel.
Steady and slow works better. The long term steps to a solution is the answer here, for me. ;)

Yes. I was more stressed too. I had panic attacks. Mind u I think bisoprolol tablet stops those and palpatations. ;)

It's interesting that you say you were pain-free prior to LCHF. Do you think there's a connection? I only ask because I have definitely experienced more pain since going LCHF, although I couldn't imagine why that would be, so I just put it down to the ageing process.
Well my GP seems to be just writing off mine as me getting older. I've been overweight since 6yr old. I lost 5stones when I tried starvation as a moody teenager thou. My body hasn't even needed a pain killer for period pain. Now, wham I need 8 tablets a day. Strange!

On Monday saw the Liver Specialist and got the results from the 2 Scans and Liver Biopsy.
I have got Fibrosis (scarring) and Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease = NAFLD. The scarring is there to stay, it cannot be reversed, but I can prevent it getting worse and causing further damage. Or the next thing will be that I will turn Jaundiced (Yellow) and end up on the Liver Transplant List.
I have to follow a Low Fat, Sugar and Salt Diet and aim for 20g Satuated Fat and 10g Sugar per day = less is even better. Aim to lose at least 1 stone (this will get me down to 12 stone).
Will have a Fibroscan and MRI Liver Scan every 6 months. Liver Function Blood Tests to be done every 6 weeks. See my GP to discuss what tablets I am taking could be cut down or even stopped. Letters (a report of findings) being sent to: Rheumatologist, Dermatologist, Diabetologist and GP.

I read somewhere William that even slim people get NAFLD, so I guess that's you. 12st for a man isn't obese, surely?
So if slim people get it too which can progress to fibrosis , long term. You must have had fatty liver a long long time.
Why do skinny people get NAFLD? I guess because skinny people eat frutose. I wouldnt be surprised if fruit related. Our grandparents weren't eating 2-3 pieces of fruit a day.
Little one has been offered fruit at nursery, hence has stinging poos. His body doesn't like citrus or unsweetened fruit. We know because he reacts in this way. I've told you about my mum fruit queen. She lives on her own and used to consume 2 fruit bowls worth of fruit a week and fruit in yoghurts too. Too much, I think. She had bad symptoms, one including IBS and NAFLD. She has reduced her consumption.
I don't eat fruit now on lchf. I went from 220 enzymes to 20-40 output.

as you know Ive been under stress for a long time, had panick attacks, depression , the lot, even I can go couple weeks & not go out, now mainly only if I have to, thanks to him, but I have Llke you noticed highs/lows effect my bgs ect lost so much hair last year & had a return of only what I can call menopause for the equivalent of 20 woman so bad, i past menopause many years ago, I bought 3 fans, told it was the effects of medicine changing my hormones but same thing happened again this year, my hairs been falling out all summer so bad, still is, I think it's meds & diet, effects our body & how it works, it can't all be from my stress problem & age, still just got to get on with it. Hope you feel better soon

Well that's stuff sorted for car boot sale tomorrow. Back is doing one . Ron has over done it today.

Liam hope things improve for you soon, once I mentioned I had a non-alcoholic fatty liver, I had high blood results & problems for so long, blood tests every 3 months, was even tested for cancer they couldn't understand what was going on, I was told exactly same as you but even told I need to make changes if I didn't I wouldn't be around much longer, my mind went blank when he said that, my daughter was at school then she's 25 now, I wasn't given diet advice like you, I do know most of what was said I didn't hear I was so frightened but I cut out acidy foods, ect & tried to eat healthier cut down fats citrus ect & after few years my liver tests came back within normal range, I'm not being tested any more, so I understand it can be very worrying but stress doesn't help so take care & good luck x

@maureen5752 I used a holistic way to solve my infertility decades ago, bit in vain but I found a herbal hairdressers who helped with my alopecia. Toxins and stress was my cause. I started using organic as pesticides were not helping. I use some organic now but not much but stress causes huge imbalances throughout your body. Lavender can help. Herbal teas too.

@ickihun - Vicky, Luckily Richard was with me because I could feel myself getting stressed, as the Liver Specialist went on about ME being overweight! For my height of 5ft 8in according to him I should be 11 stone, and have been told to lose 1 stone at least (more would be better). Thank You Vicky - You have met me and I am not overweight/Obese?
At the moment I weighed in at 13 stone last Friday (wearing only underwear) and I weigh myself every Friday and post on the weight thread. I did say to Richard, guess I am going to have to be Anorexic then!!! Also Thank You to @maureen5752 for the 're-assurance but I did feel like a naughty boy. I have spent almost 2 days on the Internet googling this and that, reading about Fatty Liver and Detox Diets etc thinking my days are numbered? Milk Thistle was mentioned but I was told there is nothing available on prescription. So, I have ordered 60 Milk Thistle tablets for £8.95 from Amazon. :) I bought 30 Dandelion Tea bags from A Herbalist yesterday and had 2 mugs of it this morning - this is supposed to help in detoxing the Liver.

Well it's funny how he's requested less drugs too. Drugs affect the liver. I bet you'll see a difference quite quickly. Strange how exercise didnt get thrown at you as well. The thing is, you should have been helped long before now. Diabetic all that time and just scanning your Liver just recently. He was probables annoyed with your surgery for not checking your liver function sooner. Fatty liver doesn't happen over night, not to this extent. It's catching them out in slimmer people William. 1-2 stones overweight isnt obese. So even non-obese people are struggling with our high carb society.
Reduce your fructose and make your potato and other carb portions a little smaller and I bet that fatty liver will improve. ♡♥♡
It worked for me. Give it a go. What have you got to lose? Liver already struggling give it a hand. Give it 6 weeks. ;)

Liam I went into shock zone didn't remember a word doctor said, at the time but after it came back, except if I didn't change I've have ( can't spell it) serosous, turn yellow ect & not be around for long but so much has changed since then, I threw so much food out & changed my eating habits, I've slways been slim & ate healthy but sometimes we all eat some **** or drink to much, I had an op & the anesthetic wouldn't filter through my liver, was vomiting, sounds frightening but what I'm trying to say is don't go reading this & that & buying , listen to your doctor & ask for advise on what to do to help yourself, I had NO help, but my livers been in normal range for couple years now, well it was then when they tested me, must still be ok heard nothing, & don't worry that doesn't help, I'm the worst worrier you will ever find, it doesn't do you any good so don't worry eat healthy get your blood tests & I'll keep my fingers crossed for a quick recovery for a healthy liver, you will live forever, you have to, we need our avatar! Seriously look after yourself, I'm ok now and so will you (((hugs)))

@Liam1955 . I cut out all citrus fruites, pickles, tomatoes, things like that & watched fatty foods, & booze, took time but I'm ok now, careful with herbal stuff it can interact with meds, personally I think some of the meds, pain killers ect I was given played a big part to my liver problem. Overweight!!! That's a joke. You looked thin in yr photo x
