Type 2 Life

You know am thinking of paying privately for a MRI if second gp reluctant. I need to know what's going on for my pain too @eldergarth . The whole system is a joke.
Im stuck on pain killers too. Although I know you are having tremours and weakness which must be coming from the brain's response to your pain Ron.
God knows where your pain is originating from. I'd guess your back but GP needs to be able to pinpoint that from your MRI.
When are you seeing your GP next?

I'm guessing this is the new thing now. GPs are now incharge of your full care and no longer specialists??? GPs paying for everything and only allowed to spend so much on each patient. American style.
If so. I need to change gp as mine won't pay for anything. A sure way to save money and stress our gps out!!!!
It's basically as I see it Vicky now it's test you for one thing it comes back negative so it's back to GP try again they fob you of saying its pain go away back to GP again get fobbed of again stay in limbo for a while get lost in system start all again complete farce wish I'd gone private years ago when had chance

@ickihun , a neurologist isn't necessarily a pain Doctor, although it might sound counterintuitive. A neurologist specialises in conditions of the nervous system, including the brain and central nervous system.

In terms of pain management there is a classification of Consultant in Pain Medicine, or often pain clinics are run by anaesthetists. You and @eldergarth and/or @tina_marie might find the following link helpful.

I'm sorry you're having such a tortuous time @eldergarth , but perhaps you can ask your GP about pain management.
I asked the neurologist to refer Ron to occupational health but he said will refer him to pain clinic first. We don't want to be getting ahead of ourselves. Yet the letter Ron got today says nothing about it .

I'm thankful to @AndBreathe .
I told you I haven't a clue @eldergarth .
So GP it is then ... for pain management referral.
Poor Ron. Why couldn't they have referred you for both?
You went to your gp IN PAIN.

Ron I better there is a chronic pain forum somewhere too.
Poor Tina.
The frustration is damaging to your health too.
Is there a family history of anything like this @eldergarth ?

Sorry to derail the thread but I have some fantastic news - I have an interview next week! I got a phone call earlier from the employment agency and they're holding interviews next Wednesday. My appointment is for 2 pm and I should be there for about 2 hours so they sound quite thorough. Wish me luck :)

That's brilliant news Barbara. ♡♥♡

Bloods have been sub 10 for a while now x I'm well pleased

How are you doing?
Well I discovered unless I take 50-60 units of mixed insulin it had no affect on my bgs so today is day 5 of no insulin, just metformin. Although I'm getting 5 and 6s with 7-9s for fbgs I'm pleased. I'm up on my levels with insulin but im looking to improve. I know im risking complications but hoping to lose weight.
If no weight loss in 6 weeks then I'll restart insulin slowly and hope for better insulin resistance. At least.

Tina_Marie and eldergarth, I had fairly difficult bone pain, after surgery about a year ago which was a source of some concern. Once it had been checked out of r a recurrence of the issue demanding surgery it was suggested, a bit like eldergarth, that I was in pain (Yes. That would be why I'm here, with no clothes on Mr Bloggs) and like eldergarth I was to be discharged back to my GP who would refer me to see someone specialising in managing pain, should I like to pursue it. So, whilst very frustrating, it seems to be how it works.

I do hope you guys find life to be a bit more comfortable soon. Chronic pain isn't a laughing matter.

That is wonderful news @Diamum5972!

So specialist has to refer you to pain clinic via gp????
Or can gp refer you from the start @AndBreathe ?

A GP can make a referral to a Pain Clinic, without instruction from anyone, however, I don't think it would have been a smart move to do so without initially exploring if there was anything worrying at the root of it all.

To be fair, how often to GPs come in for strong criticism for treating a symptom, rather than trying to work out the root cause? Furthermore, I can't envisage a Pain Clinic readily treating an individual without a clue why they are in enough pain to justify a referral. Let's be honest, many people, if treated for the pain of something would then want to continue down the route of finding the root cause. Personally, I think there would be a significant drop out rate, once the pain was alleviated. They're in a difficult situation. Almost damned if they do and damned if they don't.

We are all routing for a diagnosis we can understand @eldergarth . My brother-in-law was sent for physio for his knee joints to be told by phsio he has boney growths behind his knees. I wonder if gp knew or whether on a decent physiotherapist could diagnose.
I think I expect too much from my gp. They are expected to know everything.
