Type 2 Life

Thanks guys the course was really interesting and they said to watch the carbs and to eat slow release carbs like I try to.
I have got an appointment with the consultant and DSN next week so will be mentioning my numbers especially in the evening when they are going quite high.

A 5.1 for me. Even though I treated a hypo at 1am this morning with quite alot of sugar.
Mixed insulin having a build-up affect?
Can I ask to be changed to seperate jabs?
Can I just have insulin which instant. No long lasting?
Is basal the long lasting one? And instant called bolus?

Yep you can have them sperate and your right with bolus and basal. Be careful with how many carbs you are eating and how much insulin your taking. Speak to yourDiabetic team about changing insulin.

Thanks @loulou99782 .
When I was pregnany (twice) I was on seperate and controlled bgs much better than this mixed one.
I'll insist as I feel I'll need less insulin that way. Surely a winning reason for them to change it?

You might be considered for basal/bolus insulin if mixed insulin is having little or no effect. I don't know how many units you take (and your weight needs to be taken into consideration too), not a thing to ask a lady lol.

I take 136 IU of mixed insulin and weigh 87kg. I am being titrated up to 2 units per kg so 160/170 units daily. My Consultant did say if this didn't work I would be sent on a DAFNE course on how to learn carb counting and injecting basal/bolus insulin. Hope this helps.

I agree @ickihun, the mixed insulins contain short + long acting insulin together and I have found the long acting one can drag your BGs down overnight and can persist for 12-16 hours. If you are waking up to hypos then a reduction in your pm injection or having a supper will benefit.

5.2 am
Turned out today was a holiday day for me, wife on a full training course, she normally works 8:00 to 12:30 going on 13:00, so took son swimming this afternoon, first of the year... he's not been himself... went really well, we were the only people in the pool....
If the numbers ever come up it will be a swimming pool pretty near the top of the list.... :)
Had an appointment with my DN this morning, my surgery is not joined up... got another letter yesterday asking me to come in for a D test and review.. and, though she is good, she had no idea I had made an appointment to see quack about my rubibilins and cholesterol, which is next week. She went through my numbers and was happy, inspected and tested my feet, good pulse.... feet still in cold mode......... Ho and Hum

Morning FBG 6.3 @hankjam it must be something in the air as my grand daughter still hasnt settled down at night either but at least I am lucky and I get the weekends off. Glad to hear your DN appointment went well, hopefully your cholesterol ect nets good results at the Drs next week.

Fasting reading was 4.8 this morning.

Just had a lovely supper of pork meatballs in a spicy sauce on a bed of cabbage with some broccoli, followed by jelly (sugar free) and Greek yogurt. 2 hours later I tested at 4.8 again, so good but no comparison of change as I didn't test before the meal; however as an interesting comparison Mrs SH also tested after 2 hours, same meal but with pasta instead of cabbage, and her reading was 8.6.

She is not diabetic and we currently have recent comparable HbA1C results (me 28 and Mrs SH 32).

The message for me from this must be stay off the pasta! I love cabbage and cauliflower (great heaps sometimes!) used instead of rice or pasta, which works really well for me.

Hi @4ratbags sorry to hear your nights are still disturbed, our lad is back to more regular sleep... not a morning person, amazing what a shower can do though. By the sounds of it your daughter/son is lucky you are so willing to help out, good on you.

I have mixed feelings about my BG's at the moment, HbA1c of 37 is my best, I tend to test first thing and now before and after my evening meal, which tends to be okay(ish) mainly less than 6, which I'm okay. I tested before lunch yesterday and got a 6.2, which surprised me a bit, I was feeling really cold in my bones, had not eaten anything since 06:30... but my hands really can't be doing with more than 3 tests a day... sore covers it.

Thank you for your wishes

Hj

An Hb of 37 is still.in the non diabetic range so that is still great. Im with you on too much testing though, my next Hb test is next month, fingers crossed it is still in the 30's somewhere. I just have a fear it will be 40 + even though I know it shouldnt. We actually have custody of our grand daughter and we are hoping we dont end up with her sister as well, Im too old to be struggling with two of them :)

Hi @Silver Hammer
Very interesting. The last time I had ordinary pasta I was 7.6 just over 2 hours later (went to friends for a meal) and I thought that was really bad - perhaps not as bad as I had thought. Tonight tried Slim Pasta Fettuccine - per 100g portion 9 cals, 0 carbs. My husband saw it in Holland and Barrett and suggested we tried it. A bit chewy but 5.0 before meal and 4.2 after 2 hours so I was happy with that and my husband thought it wasn't too bad. Might even try it again. I did it with a home made mince & tomatoes & veg dish.

Wish well on both fronts, next Hb test next month and having to have custody of grandnipper, that must be an extra load, take care of yourself.

Morning. FBG of 3.8 mmol/l, dreadful. An hour later at 7 am dipped to 2.9 mmol/l. Currently eating mega bowl of cornflakes. Not injected insulin yet.
