Type 2 Life

@Kyi - That is brilliant you invested in a meter, that is the most important and vital piece of equipment for a Diabetic. A lot of people on this forum use the LCHF - if you go to the top of the page and click on Forums, scroll down to FOOD and NUTRITION there you will see various diets. Hope there is something of interest for you? Diet and Exercise will have more effect on blood sugars, and drink plenty of sugar free liquids. Avoid "white Carbohydrates" = white rice, bread, pastry, biscuits, pasta, flour and potatoes. Keep us updated on the forum how you are doing? And if you have any questions? Just ask - there will always be someone to answer. We all help and support one another as much as we can.:)
I have been low carb dieting since May Low between 50-100 carbs per day. Not eating pasta, bread, potatoes ,rice, sugar, wheat, manufactured foods at all. I do not subsitute sugar with sugar free sweetners as they are bad cancer causing and insulin resistant making. It was one of the reasons why I decided I needed to test to see what is going on. I am beginning to suspect Im not making enough insulin.

@Kyi - Hi. You only began taking 2000mg Metformin and 100mg Sitagliptin recently this month! It takes time to build up in your system, and will take at least a couple of months to reach it's full effect - please be patient. Test before you eat and then 2 hours after and record these results along with what you ate. You can then build a food and test result diary, and see if any particular food raises your blood sugar. From what I have read you are doing good, do continue.:)

Results of my blood sugars after eating a Chocolate Crunchie Bar last night.

Before bed at 1.15am = 9.5.
Fasting today at 9am = 6.3.
Not bad really:)
@liam that is totally unfair. :p I am trying to feel pleased for you but really am jealous! Although actually a crunchie would make me feel sick, far too sweet. My weakness is... well, you can probably guess from my username!

@TooManyCrisps - I sacrificed myself to do an experiment and that is why the results were put on the thread for @13lizanne and @mo53 to see the outcome.
I know you used to love crisps, but why not "experiment" and just for research sake? (I love cheesy wotsits and when I cannot sleep I am Sat with cheesy wotsit sandwich at 3 or 4am):)

I know it will take time, I was just wondering how long lol. I have been on a version of metformin since September and it appeared to have the opposite affect on my HbA1C ie it rose. Diet a lone isnt working. I am tempted to throw in a vitamin pill in the mix because I know my vit D was low (I am Dr medicated for this), and I know vit B12 is affected by metformin. Im just annoyed that my Dr didnt get any vitamin results last blood test because I specifically asked for it. Patience is a virtue they say lmao.

Owning my agree - I've always had a savoury tooth! Pork scratchings are my saviour :)

Hello @liam1955 I realise that you sacrificed yourself for research information with that crunchie lol lol you were very brave ! I'm sure @13lizanne and I are very appreciative of 'the great crunchie' sacrifice! Well done for coming out so well lol

@13lizanne - Hi Anna:), just seen you were on the forum at 2pm. Did you have a lovely time at the seaside with Hubby and Son? And was the weather good?:)

I've had a super time this morning as I went to the pool and swam for 1hour 5 mins continuously. I swam the equivalent of 50 standard lengths which in my pool is 100. I was surprised how good swimming felt today. @liam1955 I didn't snack any further last night. I was good . :) How is everyone else today?

Well Done You, so next on your list is to swim the channel then!!! You must be ever so fit @mo53 ? Just think about all them calories you have burnt today. I hope you are going to have something more substantial for your evening meal today?
I am having 2 Cheese Muffins (split - 4 halves) topped with French Brie and sliced Mushrooms then grilled, followed by Rhubarb Crumble and sugar free custard. The Rhubarb grown on the Allotment, picked and frozen so we can have it during the winter time. I put rolled oats and chopped nuts into the topping on the crumble (no sugar used at all - only Splenda):)

Ooh @liam1955 your dinner sounds delicious. Yummy! I had the cauli cous cous at lunch time fried in olive olive with onions, mushrooms and garlic granules, onion granules, cayenne, paprika and black pepper. It was delicious. I wish I'd had that last night. This teatime I'm going to my friends and she usually cooks a gravy dinner. But no roast potatoes. Have you been shopping?

Don't know about mine @mo53 - but that cauliflower cous cous sounded tasty. I might have 'real' cous cous tomorrow with veggies in it. At your friends this evening have 1 or 2 roast spuds, don't have gravy and check 2 hours after = now that is your experiment for research - Ha, Ha, Ha.
Been doing household chores today. On Monday definitely having my Bloods done (had to reschedule, due to partner being ill yesterday) then we are meeting my Sister & Hubby for lunch at M & S and then going grocery shopping after lunch. Yawn - Yawn

Hi @liam1955, I'm not brave enough to experiment yet. Once my blood sugar has stabilised and I've lost another stone, maybe. But at the moment I'm concentrating on getting my figures down before my next HBA1C. It would be great if I discovered that a family sized bag on Kettle Chips didn't raise my levels, but I somehow doubt it. And I would find it hard to limit myself once the bag was opened.....

@liam1955 I hope your partner is feeling a bit better today. I hope you are providing hot drinks and tasty treats. Your Monday sounds smashing. Sorry I can't be the researcher though. My partner cooked an Irish stew and I thought , potato won't hurt. My blood sugar shot up from 5.8 to 14.6! I'm trying to keep away from potato hence my delight with the celeriac chips. :)

@mo53 - That's a big jump to 14.6 = wow!! But then I can eat potatoes and have no big spike for me, just go's to show that we are ALL different! Yeah, stick with the Celeriac Chips.
@TooManyCrisps - What was your last HBA1C and when did you have it? And what are you hoping for this time?
I am having my HBA1C blood test on Monday. My last one was November and that was 62? or was it 64? = well anyway it was 81 (6 months before November). I am not going to beat myself up if it is raised - I can but only work on it for the next test. :(

@13lizanne - Oh hello Anna, pleased you could tear yourself away from your travels and join us!!!!:D:D Had a good day then? No rock either?

Hi all, yes I did come back at 2pm but our two older boys who had been in the area having lunch together arrived at 2.10pm to see their little brother. They are all in the back garden, Dad Included, kicking a ball about. We arrived at Leven at 9.30am I did a bit of shopping while Dad and D went for a long walk, then we had a picnic in the car (cold chicken for me) crisps and sandwiches for them, then the men went to the Arcade for 3/4 hr while I read my magazine. D doesn't sit still for long so we were home by 2pm. We all enjoyed our trip and now I'm getting a few mins here while Dad and sons are occupied. Good swim @mo53 ? and @liam1955 are you run off your feet fetching and carrying?

Well, today didn't go according to plan. Usually I do my voluntary work on Saturday but DS has been unwell with a cold for the last few days and yesterday he had a nosebleed and felt sick. Obviously I didn't want to leave him while I went to the shop so I rang them up to say I couldn't come in. I also needed to get some shopping in so I persuaded him to come with me to get a bit of fresh air. He does seem to be feeling better but the house looks like an explosion in a tissue factory! Looks like we might be getting the bus to mum's house tomorrow
