Type 2 Life

Really? I didn't know that - my husband suffers from gout!
(He ain't having any of my cherries, though!! :sour: I'll get him some juice...lol)
Found out about Cherry's last year. They work, but not that happy eating tinned in winter. On the flip side asparagus can bring gout on. Its the purines. Why is nature so cruel as to not bring those two in season together?
BTW I eat the local (Kent) asparagus like there is no tomorrow over a lb a day starting tomorrow

Hi @berylc I prefer accu chek. There results are more in keeping with how i feel. I dont suffer hypos easily nor there symptoms due to one of my bp tablets but my meter keeps me right. I can rely on it 99% of the time. None are 100% accurate.
Try a few to get the one for you.
Websites for 2nd hand ones if companies don't send you one. Gp practice gets reps dropping meter to them all the time. There yours!
Let me know how you get on! :)

I'm reviewing my meter, Accu Chek gets good reviews ....

I used to live in Haywards Heath near Burgess Hill where their customer service used to be. I think they're still there.
I've used accu-chek for 14yrs. I tried one touch and bayer recently. One touch hadpoor customer service and meter not inkeeping with my hba1c.
Bayer is good too but I like a big screen so I can test discreetly but more importantly can see the result from my open bag.

Hi Gang, just read all your posts but still unable to like using the app.
Useful info 're the cherries and asparagus.
I've hear metformin can make folks windy but more the lower end
Still avoiding meds thankfully.
The cranberry I mentioned isn't for thrush, it's to ease cystitis symptoms....Think someone got confused earlier. Thought I'd best say so no-one tries it for thrush. It's live natural yoghurt for that ....applied to affected area to rebalance bacteria levels (get the "good guys" back

Tell me about it diabetic maculopathy it says in the letter @debrasue, changes to the blood vessels on the macula. I am hoping it is something and nothing just generally trying to be positive and hoping for the best. There has been no real change in my sight over the past year as the prescription for my lenses in my glasses are still the same as I had the option of keeping the same glasses or having a new pair, which I take as a positive.
Do you know a tame optician who might be able to translate that into plain Enlish for you?

Oh @maureen5752 bless you. I feel your problem. I thought it was due to one of my meds. Well actually I'm feeling loads better today without that said tablet. William suffered with it too.
What medication for diabetes do you take?
I remember on metformin i was having to use gaviscon liquid everyday. Actually until i started lchf.
When I'm being strict with lchf I feel very much less windy/bloated.
I don't know about everyone else?
I use metformin & gliclazide, pharmacist said metformin causes this problem and the fact we eat more eggs, cheese, veg ext. never had this problem before, still keep trying these new rennies. Have good evening.

The more I read up on it in the leaflet and online it seems like it could possibly be diabetic retinopathy, which in short could possibly mean the blood vessels behind the eyes are damaged. It is not for certain and there are a varying number of degrees of severity. It maybe that I have small changes and they gave caught it early but want specialists to keep an eye on it so that it doesn't progress.

@kjc2011 - I will be due to have my 16th Retinal Screening in a few months time. Only once A few years ago I got the letter saying that I had some background Retinopathy, I asked my GP what I could do to change this, and he told me to get my blood sugars under control and lower my HBA1C and watch what I eat. Then the following year after my Retinal Screening the results came back normal.:)

Thanks @liam1955 that's exactly what I have been doing the past few months since coming on here with everyone's support and advice along with the regular testing the past 3 weeks or so not seen a fasting/pre meal reading above 5 and 2 hour post meals between 6/7 a huge difference to fasting in the 8s and post meals in the teens. Hopefully on the right track now and fingers crossed stopped the retinopathy in its tracks before it has had a chance to progress.

Thanks Liam.

Went shopping with Yvonne today and as I've lost 18lbs far, she encouraged me to buy a nice pair of proper Levi 501s. So I thought, ah that's nice then I looked at the price tag, gulped and walked away (£85). Haha :)

Right...Ive never bought a pair in my entire life, but I've promised I will when I hit my Personal Fat Threshold....hopefully in the next 3 months...so plenty of time to save:)

Morning Folks

Well last night I decided to have a drink! After two hefty glasses of Pinot Grigio and a lovely meal of Baked salmon my BS had moved up .2 and this morning I have just tested at 5.2 so there is truth in the evil rumour that your liver is so busy going "OMG alcohol" it forgets to liver dump.....Result lol

Any how Weekly stats for this week

Average reading 5.8
Before Meal 5.6
After Meal 5.7
36 tests 100% between 4.4 and 7.0
High 6.9 Low 4.4
And another 1.5 kilos down

So apart form a mild headache I feel great lol

Have a super weekend all x

Thanks Liam.

They still make those
Congratulations on the weight loss

*GOSSIP ALERT* ....met my ex girlfriend the other day. We just split on good terms and we had a good catch up over a cuppa, I think she was flirting with me. Been a bit confused since. Me and women, I'm doomed lol. ;):D

@eddie1968 , no harm in sending a text/phoning saying you enjoyed chatting with her would she like to meet up again? The worst that can happen is that she says "no" and you'll never know if she is interested if you don't ask. (Unsolicited advice from me :) )
