Type 2 Life

Well, something must be working - I was 6.6 this morning. First time I've been under 7 in a couple of months!

5.3 this morning, a load of haddock in almonds last night, just don't seem to be able to say no to my fish man.... lovely stuff

Higher fbg of 8.9 and tired again. Low bgs affect my mood. I am tired but not gloomy. Low bgs less energy and gloomy. Tired due to a late night. Will try and grab catch up sleep today. Stressing out about an appointment friday morning. Neither wonder my sugars are up. :-(

5.0 this morning. Very happy with that. I was sensible with food and did walk about 5 miles yesterday. Exhausted but slept longer than usual which was probably good. 5.7 before evening meal and 4.7 after 2 hours, not complaining but don't understand. My husband asked if I felt I needed to eat something more but as we had a good meal and I wasn't hungry said no. I very seldom eat any snacks so don't want to make it a habit.

Morning Folks

5.1 this morning after a 5.0 yesterday tea time.

Think I have a cold coming on and had a poor night as a result so the figures could have been worse. Now wondering about reducing my Metformin down to 2 per day. I dropped it to 3 three weeks ago, and apart from an issue around a steroid injection, levels seem to be holding around 5 to 5.5.

My reasoning is that my control seems to have improved a lot since I started taking ALA, vitamin B12 and vitamin B1, and there is some evidence that insulin dependence can occur as a result of difficulty in metabolisinng vitamin B12.

There is also evidence that metformin further reduces the bodies ability to achieve this, so, in some cases Metformin might not actually be as beneficial as we think..

Did discuss this with both DN and GP and both seemed happy to try a gradual reduction and "see how you go" They did not however agree to supply test strips......

I am however a little nervous about doing anything that might lead to a return to the bad old days..

There is also evidence that Metformin is cardiac-protective and further emerging evidence that it can also assist in preventing some cancers.

What a rough day I've had. My thyroid has been throbbing and making me cry. (On my right-hand side only). Pain in the same area when I moved my head. Unbearable. I took to my bed with a good bg level and awoke 2 hours later with a 6.5 so for once my diabetes didn't seem to be the problem. A virus maybe? I would have thought my bg would have been affected too? Maybe a delayed reaction is due. God help me! lol

Yeah finally able to get on the site. Was 5.0 Wednesday morning. Been to Immunology at King's College and have got a immune deficiency connected to the MELAS:rolleyes: and a ENT infection great.

6.6. Have dropped from the 8s now i take all my blood pressure medication in the morning.

A steady 7.4 and thyroid pain gone. A had a little carb and it stopped hurting. Seeing dietitian on the 10th. Putting weight back on slowly as not enough fat eating. Need to buy some.

5.9 this morning woke up worrying about things to do today so that won't help. Food normal yesterday and walked about 4 miles;

You seem to have so much to contend with and now even more. Take care and hope things improve soon.

Morning Folks

5.5 this morning.

Seem to have got over the cold and I have cut my Metformin down to 2 per day as of yesterday evening.

I am aware that Metformin does have beneficial effects in other areas and I have no intention of stopping taking it, just want to see how little I can get away with for now as I really would like to understand why I am diabetic.

I suspect, as with most things, it will just be a question of balance in the long run.

Seems a very sensible way forward. At least with regular testing you will soon notice if numbers creep up again. I'm not sure if any of us know why we are diabetic!

It annoys me when type2s get accused of overeating because afterall the newcastle diet reverses diabetes type 2. Blurgh.... what a load of rubbish. I've been there and worn the t-shirt. Once you eat normally it just comes back worse. Ok I believe it is a quick fix til the true cure happens. I guess that's about it for us. Starvation or just suffer. Oh boy am I in a funny mood! Stressed and frustrated isn't the word.
If I don't see some improvement in my weight shakes it will be too.
I wish there was a better way for me to lose weight. Slimming tablets via specialist soon. Lchf diet will have to go. I'll retain the low carb part thou. Don't miss the high sugars!
Rant over. Thyroid paining off and on but nothing like yesterday. Thank god. :-)
