You are right, alcohol wipes can raise the reading. When i did my clinical skills unit , the section which covered doing Bm's, is to wash hands with soap and water, not to use alco wipes.
Hope this helps.

What about hand gel?

Oh and I think my higher readings are down to being a carb ***** yesterday!!

I will get up and wash my hands then to see what happens. I did get lower readings before though still using same method....

Hiya, hand gels contain alcohol. Wipes and gel is rubbed into skin. The recommendations is to wash hands with soap and water.

Hand gels and alcohol wipes are not affective in cleansing hands. Only good hand washing does that. I believe.

6.2. But I did have a pub dinner with friends last night (chicken/carrots/celeriac mash, pint and a half of bitter) which gave me an expected and largely acceptable spike of 9.0 after 2 hours, declined to 6.6 after 3.5 hours.

Went to bed on 6.3 which is high for me. Confirmed on re-test. No explanation
This morning 5.9, slightly above current average.

6.2 for me so going down

Feeling rubbish today :(

4.7 for me today. Did an experiment over past few days as realised I was not drinking nearly enough water especially with my exercise and the hot weather. My readings are down and mornings have been in the 4s for several days now.

I like the going down bit, but not the feeling rubbish bit. Hope you feel better soon.

I'm on new drugs for leg pain and they're making me feel sick. Apparently they raise BG too so don't be getting to excited about any more drops!!

Thanks xxx

Is there some relationship between drinking more water and BS levels? Very interesting if there is. I know those of us on low carbs should drink as much as possible to help flush out the kidneys and make the bowels behave better, and for general health benefits, but I haven't heard about it lowering BS levels.

My personal hypothesis is that adequate water just allows the body to run better, overall. If the body is less stressed, by virtue of adequate hydration, ones body may be able to deal with the carbs better.

Whatever, I just know for me, I have to drink enough, or I know about it within 12 hours. I regularly used to have a cough on my home bound commute, just because I'd had a bonkers day, not drinking enough.

On going to bed, my Bm was 5'1 it was 12.45 am. Up this morning at 06.40 7.0Bm. Just got in from work 6.4.

From what I have read, the HB A1c is higher, if there is not enough hydration. I imagine, if it is hot, also exercised, the BG is higher, if not enough water has been taken on board.

I have been working in a very warm environment, I have not drunk the usual amount of water. My Bm is a little higher at this time of day.
All I have eaten is blueberry and creme fraise.

Brace yourselves....

Tested 8.5 do tested again, same finger, 7.1 so average is 7.8 - or in other words - bloody awful.

Can only think it may have been protein overload at dinner and I tried peanut butter before bed. I actually woke up at 5.20 thanks to 4 yr old and tested at 6.30. I was horizontal the whole time.

Try again tomorrow x
