I aaim for 4.2 - 4.7 in the mornings and usually get there. I'm cross with myself if I get over 5.

Re: Type 2's : What was your fasting blood glucose in a morn

from: http://www.diabetes.co.uk/diabetes_care/blood-sugar-level-ranges.html

Blood glucose ranges for type 2 diabetes

Before meals: 4 to 7 mmol/l
2 hours after meals: under 8.5 mmol/l

Blood glucose ranges for type 1 diabetes (adults)

Before meals: 4 to 7 mmol/l
2 hours after meals: under 9 mmols/l

I was 5.2 this morning and 5.2 two hours after breakfast.

Had a good week, despite stressing over the Gas Board and my cousins' house in Filey - I won't bore you!

Highest over the last 7 days was 5.2. Fasting was 4.7 this morning.

6.6 Pleased with that, as my BG levels are all over as I learn what I can and can't eat.

Mine was 7, which sounds high to me. I hadnt eaten for 15 hours though. Would that make a difference?

Could do, Lucy - and possibly you too, Bigfatpaulie. Your livers have possibly given each of you a massive glucose dump to make up for lack of food - it can happen! A small carb/fat snack at bedtime - a couple of oatcakes with some butter and cheese, for instance - can help some people with high 'Dawn Phenomenon'- type fasting readings. Lots about DP on this forum.

Re: Type 2's : What was your fasting blood glucose in a morn

I'll try that tonight as I do like Jacobs crackers, butter and cheese and 1 or 2 of them before bed would be no hardship! :D
Admittedly I did skip dinner yesterday as I couldn't get my blood sugar below 24 all day so I thought the fasting would help but not a lot it turned out.

Righty-ho.

I was told by the HCA nurse to not eat after 6pm, so I havent. Then I slept in and had a late breakfast at 10am.

Does it matter if I skip meals and just have 2 meals a day or is timing important?

Re: Type 2's : What was your fasting blood glucose in a morn

I tend not to eat after 6pm, but if I do it is something like a satsuma. I think it's a question of trial and error for each individual.

I always eat 3 meals a day and usually around the same time - 6.15-6.45 am breakfast, 12 noon lunch, 5.00-5.30 pm evening meal.

Re: Type 2's : What was your fasting blood glucose in a morn

7.3 this morning. 7.1 about 90 mins after breakfast (just a poached egg).

The FBG reading is a bit higher than of late (usually 5.8 - 6.5). I'm testing the effect of reducing metformins from 4x500mg to 2x500mg, but it could just be a random "glitch". The plan is to drop the rest of the metformins before the end of this month - and then do whatever is necessary to get my HBA1C below 6.5 (ideally below 6.0) by my next annual review in July 12.

If possible, I'll just continue with a low carb diet - but if FBG doesn't drop back below 6.0 soon, I'll might have to bite the bullet and try a hypocaloric diet (a la Newcastle study).
