Oh dear that is very high. Try to keep your carbs low all day and take exercise every day. The overall effect should bring down your morning fasting level. If you really cannot do this, do please get the doctor to help. This is a dangerous level to be at as you must know.

For the last couple of days I have had one slice of Burgen bread, with spread and peanut butter before bed and that has made a huge difference to my morning fasting BG. Try different night time snacks and see what works for you. I have to make allowances for that in my daily carb counting (I am very low carbing at under 30g a day) but I feel that sacrificing something to have that bed time snack is much better for me in the long term as it also means my tests throughout the day are a little lower. I have learned (from here) we are all so very different, so what works for one person, would spike another. Play around a little, I'm sure you will find something that helps. Good luck and don't be discouraged.

I've made an appointment at the docs as I had steak, mushrooms, grilled tomato and watercress for dinner last night(Very low carb imo) and my BG was 21 this morning and I'm on metformin and Glicilazide.

I have never had such a high figure. I think the highest I have ever been is 8.1. I think you are doing the right thing seeing you Doctor. The only argument I would have with your meal last night is there was no fat. You could perhaps try frying the mushrooms next time. Apart from that, the meal you had would keep my levels nice and low.

The tomato was grilled but the portabello mushrooms were fried in plenty of kerrygold irish butter and the steak had a nice marbling of fat which I then fried in the same pan with the leftover mushroom butter so it was a fatty but tasty meal.
I'm still waiting for my diabetes specialist appt at the hospital as I spike over 33mmol sometimes(My meter maxes out at that level and shows HI) but I'm seeing the doctor first as the hospital appt could be ages away.

7.2 this morning. Down from the spike of 9.1 yesterday evening from the toast and honey, but still higher than normal.

Your meal would have been excellent for my BG. I do think you should see your GP if only for some reassurance or a med change. Your levels would scare the socks off me. I hope you get sorted out quickly.

Thankyou!! :D
Luckily my GP is a listening doctor(He gave me a meter and strips and told me to test at least 3 times a day as he finds the information useful when I see him to see how the meds are doing each time he has changed or increased them,The nurse however, despises both him and myself for this action but oh well, won't lose any sleep over her bigoted opinion! )

6.0 today. Managing to stay in the 6's so my toast and peanut butter at bed time is working :)

Mine was 13.5 this morning. Lowest I've ever had is 9.8. By the looks of all you guys I've got real trouble as I eat no carbs at all really now. Still waiting for diagnosis though as had to wait 4 weeks for a fasting BG test at the docs as she didn't believe the reading she took herself (23 mmol).

Re: Type 2's : What was your fasting blood glucose in a morn

Had my blood taken for tests yesterday am - I was 4.6 fasting on my meter, so I will be very interested to see what the lab makes of it - if they do a fasting one. They don't always.

So I allowed myself a little (large! ) treat of shepherd's pie and wine last night, in celebration - 4.7 this morning! Surprised at that, and very pleased :D
