Re: Type 2's : What was your fasting blood glucose in a morn

Hi Termlife, and welcome.

Many Type 2s on this forum control their blood glucose by diet only, by controlling their intake of carbohydrates. Have a look at that part of the forum and you'll get some ideas.

Swimmer2, I didn't see you in my wine vat! I've been there too for the last few days - I'm not starting testing again until tomorrow

I was fairly easy to spot - I was talking loudly and all of it was utter rubbish

Re: Type 2's : What was your fasting blood glucose in a morn

26.2 this morning, better go for a long walk and burn some of this off
Obviously last nights big bowl of mixed olives, feta cheese and sundried tomatos didn't agree with me which is a shame because they were bl**dy tasty to say the least!

Re: Type 2's : What was your fasting blood glucose in a morn

5.4 today so pretty average.

Re: Type 2's : What was your fasting blood glucose in a morn

Please check for ketones Paulie. (I believe you have some strips)
I wouldn't exercise at all with levels that high, if you do walk make it a gentle one.
I think you should contact your doc again.

I'm literally counting down the days now for that appointment
I'm banking everything on it now
I'm just thankful I haven't had more than ++ ketones and I check on a regular basis that they don't get worse.

Re: Type 2's : What was your fasting blood glucose in a morn

I haven't been testing for a while because I've had a bit of a social life over the last couple of weeks and have been eating a few 'not-allowed' foods - including bread and some wonderful bite-sized savoury biscuits :D You know the sort - 4g carb per biscuit, which doesn't help when you realise you've eaten the whole packet!

I had a ham & cheese toastie on wholemeal at my friend's cafe for lunch yesterday - 2 hours later I decided I needed a good scare to get me into line, so I tested - 5.6! I should probably have tested again an hour later, but . . .

Anyway, I'm back on the straight-and-narrow from today, and will start fasting testing again tomorrow. I forgot, this morning

I dare not get weighed

Re: Type 2's : What was your fasting blood glucose in a morn

5.2 today so good for me. Follows a world record low BG's day yesterday, only the second time my overall daily average has been in the 4's, pretty average day carb wise yesterday as well so pleased.

Re: Type 2's : What was your fasting blood glucose in a morn

6.5 today, but I hadnt eaten for 18 hours, and had been up and about for 3 hours before testing. Would that make a difference?

Re: Type 2's : What was your fasting blood glucose in a morn

5.0 before bed and 5.6 this morning, which is good for me.

Sure does. All humans have a built in 'correction mechanism' that releases glucose from the liver when we haven't eaten for long periods. Because T2's have poor 1st phase insulin response - and see this a lot in the am (almost all of us) - we gave it a name called: Dawn Phenomenon. Though it's not really a 'phenomenon' at all. It's a normal human body process that happens to all 'living creatures' without which we wouldn't wake up in the morning. It's just that T2 diabetics - have something broken - which allows the blood sugar to rise and rise until the eating of food or taking of an insulin bolus stops the rise. Eating regularly is way important for T2 diabetics. Skipping a meal is a big no-no.

Mine was 5.8 this am. Right where I like it.

Just a quick "hi" to you Grant, I'm afraid I can't test anymore so can't contribute.

Good to see you back though. :)
