Hello.
This is a very comprehensive website, and I'm sure it has helped lots of people.

I'm 59, 8st 10llbs , and in the process of blood tests that I know will lead to a diagnosis because I am 25% Indian, and my father and his brother became diabetic. His brother died from it in the 60s. For those unfamiliar, people of south Asian origin have a genetic predisposition for this wretched condition.
Wherever I look on the web - including this website - there is practically no guidance for the metabolically challenged.
Now it may be that this and other site creators consider my dilemma to represent that of a minority and unworthy of attention.
If that is the case, I invite them to answer the following question -

'Is it fair to ignore the needs of those who by no fault of their own have this condition thrust upon them whilst indulging the bulk of those who contracted the disease by self indulgent gluttony and sloth ?'

It's unlikely that insulting a large proportion of your fellow diabetics will achieve the inclusion you claim to desire
I would suggest you do a little more research into the various metabolic processes underlying diabetes and in particular more recent thinking about T2 which sees weight gain as an effect of some diabetic processes rather than the cause

Hello Crane
I am an under weight type 2 diabetic and I have had lots of support on this forum and others I know that many people who dont have Diabetes think that it is caused by over eating etc but you certainly wont find this view on here

What an absolutely awful thing to say in a first post and dreadful insinuation which is very misguided at best!:(

Here's a very simplistic starting point if you are interested in expanding your awareness

Sorry but can't stop laughing at last bit of op post conjures up all sorts of pictures in my head but do hope somebody can help you soon

Welcome to the forum Crane:)

I'm sure if you stick around you'll find some useful information should you get confirmation of diabetes. Not to sure why you think people who are genetically linked are being ignored, however you could raise any issues you have with a member of Admin using the Conversations feature (although you do need to make 5 posts first to use this facility).

Ok, but it's better to educate us, rather than insult us.
I may well have eaten my way here, or you could consider the fact my uncle was type 2, and my father pre diabetic as an option.
Either way, we're are where we are.
so, welcome to this forum, and remember the phrase "same sh*t, different toilet*
we're all in the same boat, and all want to help eat other, even if we don't all agree. (That would be boring anyway)

Your first post here is very controversial and stereotypes Type 2 diabetics.

Yes, genes are involved but not only the genes that you possess.

You might like to read the following articles so that you will be more aware of the genetic link for all Type 2 diabetics.

There are slim diabetics that use this forum and I am sure your opening post will not divide and rule for them, they are part of the support here. We don't segregate people by their height, weight or anything else. This is a support forum for all diabetics and if you want a corner for slim Type 2's then ask Admin. I doubt it will be seen as a necessity. Diabetes is diabetes.

IMO, The last paragraph sums up the attitude of many people who are truly ignorant, not only in their knowledge of Diabetes but in their attitude to people in general. How sad!
Welcome to the Forum Crane. Maybe if you stick around, read more and comment less for a while, you may learn something!

I am one of the skinnies here have never been overweight in my life no family history of T2 never had a bad diet yet I am still prediabetic No one would ignore you because you are slim or have a genetic predispostion to diabetes that is not the way it works here We all have the same aim to control the diabetes whatever way we can. This is the place where you can get advice and support and feel you are not alone in coping with diabetes..if you do have it.. and you certainly will not be ignored; You may have got off on the wrong foot but everyone is still happy to give you the support you need so why not give it a try

Good grief thanks for letting me know it's all down to my self indulgence and sloth. I'll tell my endocrinologist at the hospital as he says the initial weight gain that caused my T2 was down to a pituitary gland malfunction I suffer from and now take medication for. He must have totally misinterpreted the MRI scan I had to confirm the problem. You live and learn eh.

Hey!

You quoted my post but didn't reply to it-what's that all about?? or do you think members joining to attack the community with stereotypical nonsense which is downright insulting is fair game? Do tell

You obviously haven't absorbed much of the forums here yet. There is and has been for years support for all forms of diabetes including those T2s who have insulin resistance and those 15%-20% of 'T2s' who are actually mis-diagnosed Late onset T1s and usually slim (I'm one of the latter). I've not come across any bias on the forum. There are specific forums for T1 and T1.5 as well as T2. I'm not quite sure what point you are trying to make but this website supports all forms of diabetes and most of us are well aware of the wide range of genetic causes, damage due to illness and the T2 resulting from a bad diet.

Rather a challanging and questioning statement by crane posted as a 1st post .

We are all swimming in the same sea as diabetic's - regardless of type .

I am one of the skinnies who became diabetic after battling pneumonia and septis infections .

Oh Cripes!! Should I wear a mask when in public, just in case someone catches the diabetes, or even worse, the fatness when I sneeze?
I know that my fiance hasn't caught either condition, but is there a clinic I should go to or a form I should fill out to make sure the ex didn't acquire Obesity or Type 2 from me?? I wouldn't want to think that I'd been spreading diabetes so casually!!

Sorry Paul are you asking me this if so I did not realise I had quoted your post I was replying to the OP on the fact they think people are ignored because they are not overweight or they are genetically predisposed and that this was not so

This sounds like you have been given an essay title in a school project and are looking for some easy material. You'd be better off researching the Nauru whose transition from being one of the healthiest populations in the world to the most diabetic population in the world was achieved in one to two generations.

8.3% of people in the USA have diabetes yet about 36 % are classified as obese. If you are indeed doing a school project, perhaps you might like to square that circle.
