Very high protein yogurts & shakes

Having just got out of hospital following surgery for esophageal cancer, I'm looking for a very high protein yogurt or smoothie that is low in volume but protein packed, as I can only eat very small amounts, obvs it has to be super low in carbs, not only for my type II LCHF but for my newly structured digestive system.....anyone out there have the same issue or can help?

Oh wow! Best wishes on your recovery from the cancer and the op. That must have been one hellovan experience.

My only suggestion for the yogurts would be to have Greek. They tend to be thicker (more concentrated) so there will be a bit more protein. I love the coconut yog called Coyo, but I just checked and they are only 1.9g protein/100g, so not what you are looking for at all.

Can you take soup?

thanks - yes soup has been a staple for the last two weeks - but was looking for snacky things, as I have to eat 6 small meals per day. Greek yogurt is already on the list !

I like the Arla 20g protein things. They are about 13g carbs per 200g pot. They are quark not yoghurt but usually found with yoghurt!

@charliebarker hope you recovery goes well and that You soon feel better. Are there any fruity yogurts that are low carb enough with good protein does anyone know?

Sister in law had surgery for esophageal cancer a two or three years ago now doing fine but has found she is gluten intolerant also Hope your recovery is speedy though yoghurt's aren't my thing so can be of little help I'm afraid. Though I do think the low carb protein shakes may be a good idea. Grandson uses them a lot and has built up a fair amount of muscle that way.

Hey @charliebarker so sorry to hear you have to deal with this - prayers for a speedy recovery and "all clear" from the specialist. Are you able to eat anything like creamy scrambled eggs that would a bit "runny" with cream and cheese mixed in? Would be a good meal perhaps - would be about the same consistency of Greek yogurt...maybe add a bit of nut butter, like almond butter to the yogurt to add some more protein might work...If you make a protein shake of about three cups you could always save half for your next time to eat and get the full amount of protein in over two "meals"....you probably can't eat meat yet? But salmon or some other fish to your liking would work nicely with mashed celriac or cauliflower...they would be your "softest" meats....Blessings/L Keep us posted on how you are doing!

Agree with @lindijanice...totally. Even adding in protein powder to mashed veg is ok.. but not fruit flavoured ones necessarily!! A powder form of protein can be added into lots of blended things easily.. or yogurts etc...


I so wish you a good recovery and healing and a good ongoing outcome for you. Its hell to deal with but heLing foods are the best way to recover... xx

Kefir has good health qualities for our stomachs etc but do check with hospital before having as it may overload with the micro thingy me bobs that work...

I live in the US so I don't know if you have access to what we call 1/2 & 1/2? Anyways I've made several batches of yogurt myself by following this girl on Youtube

I used a 1/2 US gallon of heavy whipping cream and 1/2 a US gallon of 1/2 and 1/2. I put them into a crockpot and warmed it to 180 degrees Fahrenheit pulled the electrical cord out, then allowed it too cool to 110 degrees Fahrenheit. At that point I used some store bought quality yogurt as my "Starter". I mixed it in to the gallon of cream and 1/2&1/2, and then placed the crockpot on a towel and placed towels all around the crockpot for about 12 hours to keep it warm. I then had my own yogurt.

To create a "Greek yogurt" I then get a colander and some cheesecloth and placed said cheesecloth into the colander to strain your yogurt. With a large pot underneath the colander you'll end up with the strained out whey from the yogurt. Save the whey. You can then spoon off your delicious plain full fat Greek yogurt into glass jars to store and save in your fridge. Put the whey into ice cube trays and freeze it. You can use that frozen whey next time around for your "Starter" culture.

What I've shown is off the charts good. It costs about 1/2 the price of store bought yogurt yet the quality is so much higher than anything you can pay for from a regular store..
