I haven't thought of having it removed lol just get asked by others if it's possible. I agree no point in removing it if it's doing no damage and like I said, I'm holding onto it just incase :D hope you are well :)

I asked when I had my hysterectomy done 20 years ago for them to take out pancreas and anything else that didn't work. They didn't....

Hmmm I wonder then if we really benefit from leaving it inside of us? I only say this as a few years back my nan had cancer and had a tumour removed from her stomach and along with that they removed appendix and a few other bits that I suppose weren't deemed as necessary!

I included my appendix on my wishlist of removable organs too!! Nope, left behind!! Guess its because they were specialists in female organ removals rather than stomach organs.

I only have one third of my pancreas, the head, I had it removed 7 yrs ago along with my spleen because of a, luckily, pre cancerous tumour. It's no laughing matter as a previous poster has mentioned, the pancreas does more than produce insulin, or not in our cases, it also produced digestive enzymes, I also take lots of enzyme supplements with food otherwise I would spend most of my day on the loo. TMI! I wasn't diagnose diabetic until 3 yrs later, treat with tablets, just had to start insulin as there is no way of knowing how much insulin my wee bit produces. I often wish they had taken the lot out as I worry about a recurrence of a tumour and I may not be as lucky the next time, but I know you are better with a one (or part of a one) even if it is a bit dodgy! Also, I wouldn't put my worst enemy through the op or recovery or the horrendous scar it leaves.

I thought the original post was more about the feeling of finding out bits of you are not doing what the should rather than I wish list of which bits you'd like to chop out.
I had similar feelings to the OP about my adrenal glands when Addison's disease destroyed them. Since then my immune system has decided to distroy my thyroid and now I have anti-bodies to my pancreas.
It has been a difficult situation to get sorted in my mind. I have been very lucky with the last 60 years of my life as I didn't have anything more serious than my appendix deciding it wanted to go free! Then in the last 3 years my immune system has taken a dislike to me.
The feeling that you are no longer in control of what is happen to yourself has been difficult to come to terms with.
The way I've coped with it is to push it to the back of my mind and try to keep life ticking over. However it is difficult when eating reminds you of all your health problems.
I think it's a side of medical care that is overlooked.

I would only want body parts removed if deemed absolutely necessary. I would rather not have an operation if not really needed.@Gd485, I do agree with you about the auto immune system, mine too, is becoming more and more 'fragile' unfortunately diabetes and other autoimmune conditions, do go hand in hand.:nurse:

Best wishes RRB

It does freak me out a little, especially when upto a few months ago I thought I was tip top with nothing to worry about. In the bigger scheme of things I realise that there are so many other worse conditions I could have. Im grateful that I can walk about, see my mates, go on holiday, out on my bike etc.. things I felt I took for granted now seem to have a sparkle.
