Alright, so I'll admit that this is a "home test" rather than a proper lab test, so it probably doesn't count but:
Dr Bernstein said:
“For my patients…a truly normal HgbA1C ranges from 4.2 percent to 4.6 percent,” he writes on page 54 of the third edition of that book. “Mine is consistently 4.5 percent.” Then in his July 30, 2008, telecast he reiterated that as far as he has been able to determine, a normal A1C is 4.2 to 4.6.

And that my friends, is the benefit of a VLC Ketogenic diet (80 days @ <30g a day).

As you can imagine, I'm very chuffed.

Isn't photoshop marvellous these days!

I know you know that that is an attempt at sarcasm. Bl**dy well done BF. I've got mine coming up soon and I'm pretty sure mine won't be far off.
We can throw a squirty cream party to celebrate.

No one likes a show off Stephen

Congratulations  I couldnt life without eating fruit and a few carbs personally but if you can sustain that brilliant

  An A1c in the fours? That's like the 'Holy Grail' of results!! :D Did you get the A1cNOW meter from the states or have they started selling them in the UK?
Anyway,Bl*@dy well done!!

I cannot see the image in the first posts but from the posts above i think someone got very very very good hba1c.... well done!! note to self - get Dr Berstein book!!!!

What is the VLC Ketogenic diet? I have never heard of it. Is it similar to Atkins?

Well Done Borofergie! I live for that day when my levels will be as near normal as I can possibly get them. You must feel amazing :) :D

I am newly diagnosed, last Dec, type 2 although now awaiting hosp app to determine whether I am Type 1 or 2, due to being very slim and always very active etc in the meantime my medication is Glicazide, started off on 40mg then double to 80mg and now on 120mg twice a day, since the last increase my BG have finally started to come down considerably, however I am just reading Dr Bernstein and in the section of meds it says that the drug that make your pancreas make more insulin is not the way to go, i.e sulforylureas, I believe Glic to be in this category :?: I am now a little worried that my poor little pancreas is going to get battered to death before I get my proper diagnosis :( I have not been offered any other drug mainly cuz I am told that the other drugs are for people that struggle with their weight and have other health issues :?:

Does anyone have any advice on this please?

Thank you
Lorri.

Well done. You're quite an inspiration

Well done! What a result - you are the first diabetic member of the 4% Club I've ever seen in the wild.

Keep up the fantastic work; you are a real inspiration.

Well done mate! You realise I'm taking that as a personal challenge

I hear that a duff battery reduces readings on "A1cnow" meters by 2 points.......
No, seriously well done mate. Pie and chips to celebrate?

Hi Lorri,

I was the same, initially diagnosed as Type 2 in Jul 2010 but didn't fit the typical profile and was subsequently diagnosed as Type 1. I was put on Glicazide to crash my BG but the doctor said to me this medication was only a short term fix to drop the levels. Once they had come down he then moved me to Metformin and when the BG started to rise again he added Sitagliptin to the Metformin. Nearly 2 years in and my pancreas is still (kind of) working enough for me to not be on insulin :) Can't claim to be a member of the elusive 5% club though and defo not the 4% (unless the cross trainer takes a pounding). Maybe the 6ers? :)

Those 4s are my target.

I'm with hanadr here, those are my targets too. Well done Stephen. Hopefully I'm back to being in ketosis after a mad/bad Saturday.

Atkins induction for me for a week or two.

Hey Gregg, thankyou for your response, I posted it again on "ask a question" cuz I wasn't sure if anyone notice it :) but you did!. So you still aren't sure if you're type 1 or 2? I don't know what other drugs they would offer me I am kinda relying on the hosp to tell me once I get a firm diagnosis.... if there is such a thing? lol.... My BG's can go really low when I exericse so it can be quite difficult to manage as I am not a big eater really but I also quite often feel week in my limps, which I can get confused with feeling tired, if you know what I mean? :? ...don't know if it's the meds or not.... and then find it hard to get the energy to do my classes, which I am NOT gonna give up :!: My levels can range from around 4 to 8 during the day.
