'We are all different'

And I haven't said we are not all different

I've said it's ridiculously over used as it's ridiculously obvious

Im sorry to have to tell you the rest of us are all different! Apart from you!

Sorry Andy I just couldn't resist sweetie

I know I'm fairly new to this diabetes thing but I have tested bananas time and time again. I've tested for breakfast, dinner and tea and always came up with the same result....................pretty big spike, so off MY findings I now leave well alone and to be honest I can't say I've missed them.
If anyone asked me the question "can I eat bananas" I would tell them straight that I can't but others seem to be able to. You are better off trying some but test before and 2 hours after. Then make your own mind up. After all we are all different:D

Hi, I'm glad you found a method that suits you but in my opinion the advice "go ahead and eat it, find the answers for yourself" is not advice at all

If the only advice is buy a meter and test what you eat, that's fine, and good advice!

But there is so much more that can be learned from the experience of others

When I was diagnosed I need to drastically change my blood glucose, I never had time to test everything I ate so I took advice as to what foods make my bloods rise, cut them out and then tested foods to see what they did over time

If I had received your advice alone, I would have not needed the forum from the first posts, which told me to get a meter

LOL of course that advice is not good alone. :D As I said, my Three Golden Rules are know what you eat (nutrients, GI, GL), don't be afraid to try new things but be careful about it, and test often.

But, we are different. :p When I was newly diagnosed, to find out what I can eat became my number one priority. I tested everything, all the time. I now have a solid base of food I can use for my meals, and I know what results I can expect, more or less. I can tell you, for example, that I can put 20 mililitres of milk into my coffee and it won't affect my BG - but 30 will slightly increase it (and 50 will cause a diarrhoea >.>). Or that I can eat 3 almonds in dark chocolate and it won't affect my BG at all - but the same with white chocolate will spike me. Experimenting and testing is actually fun. And it helped me discover a lot of interesting ingredients and recipes.

Ok I'm going to use it in every post from now on

But it will be code for... I'm normal, we are all different...lol

Thanks, I'll take your advice and try that

Edit: oops.... We are all different

I like being different actually .
Different is nicely different .
Different is unique.
Different is ME ...

Different is all my family , friends, members of the forum too .

We are all fabulously different :joyful:
It is great to be different .
Feels positive to be different too .

I wouldn't like to the same as all rest of persons on the planet .
What would be unique or individual about that ?

Nope - I am very happy to be ridiculously different :D
I am ME - different ;)

I've been reluctant but here goes.
As I am definitely different to all you diabetics that inhabit this forum.
When I say it, and I do, it implies in my experience that even though something spikes one person, me! It doesn't mean that a diabetic will spike eating the same thing.
One thing is certain, that because this food type is either medium or high carbs, sugars, glycemic index or glycemic load. It will, repeat will, be bad for my blood glucose levels and because of that I am different.
I use my condition as a baseline to suggest to others who get greatly confused when posters suggest other than low carb on a low carb diet.
Just because you can doesn't mean a different individual can.
That's my difference to you lot!
