@IanBish you and I seem to be on a similar bumpy journey, pretty much at the same pace.
I think our bodies expect us to have made a new year's resolution and joined a gym by now, so it's doing its best to hang on to every pound.
If you've been taking exercise it maybe your body is building muscle. Even if not, sometimes your body needs to stabilise to move forward. Either way, we'll done you.
I've been doing some resistance exercises, but not enough to have that effect. Thank you.
Sorry about the STS @IanBish sometimes the body hangs on to the fat, then gets rid of it all at once, so I am hoping next week, you will be surprised by a "whoosh" down.

----------------------------

Anyway, a delightful 3lbs off this week, but I have been ravenously hungry, so I am going to increase my calorie allowance a bit in order to lose between 1-2lbs every week. Thinking about it, my exercise has increased a lot lately. 3lbs loss a week is too much, really, especially as I still have a looooong way to go, I don't want to lose the plot or fall off the wagon just yet!
See my first comment! Let's hope you're right. And well done on the weight loss. But slow down a bit; you're putting me to shame.

But well done to all the losers and the STSers, I'm sure we'll have a more productive week next week.

Being told “Oh go on, one won’t hurt you!”.
Conversely, the food police.
I found someone's lost pound. I shouldn't have picked it up. Rather foolish.

But a new week is here, time to make better choices.
I love this forum! Without fail someone makes me chortle loudly and scare my cat!

I forgot to post yesterday

Exactly 1lb off so that has put me in a good mood and my BG has been in the 5s for 2 days. It always makes a difference to my day when I have results like these. I should be grateful for the life I have instead of dwelling on silly numbers :D;)

Well done everyone - losers, gainers and staying-the-samers you are all wonderful

Well done on the 16oz loss. You say that, and I know what you mean, but many of us would have quite a different (worse) life if we just ignored them, or didn't bother to check them.

Thank you @LeafyArts - there's lots of inspiration on this thread from some great success stories.

Saw this on FB, so not sure if it's an accurate analogy, but it's food for thought.

Checked it as I was fascinated by the possibility. Not true unfortunately.

Odd, rapid variations in weight are almost certainly water weight, but it's not about fat cells or how much weight you've recently lost. If you become even a little dehydrated for a while your body starts storing as much of the water you drink as possible. When you drink plenty of water regularly your body is thought to stop doing that and it dumps the excess stored body water very quickly. On the scale that looks like short plateaus and even increases over a few days, followed by a rapid drop.

Thank you for the link, an interesting read. Though I'm not convinced by the article due to what is said about keto. But it could be right that I'm not drinking enough and that's the reason for plateauing. Thanks for your thoughts.

Well, after being a good boy all week, notwithstanding an artisan sourdough bacon sarnie, I only managed to lose a pound this week. I blame the cold temperatures. Or something...
"Only managed to lose a pound" I wouldn't say 'only' I'd be delighted, well done!

Been having a little delve into Google about weight loss and cold weather. The 'oracle' tells me that cold weather is good for weight loss as it helps build brown fat, we should be able to shiver ourselves thin apparently. But cancelling the advantages of the cold weather for weight loss we still have the long dark hours of winter that according to Canadian research isn't conducive to losing weight.

Conclusion: Roll on the hot salad days of summer!

I've managed to gain one kg over the week :-( not good! Average daily carbs for the week; 35g, which I'm guessing is more important.

Morning all, a disappointing loss of only 1lb this week, which given that I've only had a homemade lentil soup for lunch every day and then salads every night seems bizarre. I should add that this week I also went out for several walks so. I was expecting biig numbers.

Hey Ho ... I guess I will just have to live with it.

Good frosty morning everyone! I lost 2lb this week, although I have been ravenously hungry most days, I do blame the cold weather for that, it seems to trigger something in me. It was interesting what you wrote, @JenniferM55 about the research into weight loss in winter. The shivering only seems to exacerbate my poorly back and I definitely find summer a much easier time to diet. (sorry about your gain, but well done on staying within 35g carbs every day, that is great).

Anyhoo, it seems we have a bunch of losers here today (meant kindly, I hasten to add).

@Keith Saunders I am sorry, I missed your weigh in last week, but well done on your weight loss then, and this week. How great to be in the healthy BMI range, you have done well!

@May Mic I hope you have a good result this week (sorry I missed your weigh in last week too).

Same goes for you too, @MissMuffett I am sorry I missed your weigh in last week, I have had a full on work week and having a job keeping up with everything. 1lb off is great and yes, those numbers, it seems once we are diabetic, numbers do become very important.

Thank you for sharing the interesting water information @HairySmurf . The fact that there has been research into the phenomenon means that a lot of people experience it, so something is definitely going on to cause it. We are all a lot more knowledgeable now.

Well, a pound is still a pound @IanBish and at least it is in the right direction. I will cross my fingers that your body catches up next week.

That is a great result, @filly I would count that as a whole pound.

@bolingbroke - that is amazing! Well done on losing 100lbs, you are a champion, it is such a great achievement!

@ravensmitten WOW, 11lbs in one week, you are off to a great start and I can imagine how encouraged you must feel.

Keep up the great work everyone, we are all doing our best to get healthy and stay healthy!

Oooh, I love lentil soup, but yeah, it should have been more, maybe your body needs to catch up and it will be more next week, that seems to happen to a lot of people, weight loss isn't always linear.

Thanks @LeafyArts, I'm guessing that is just all the changes in starting a low carb diet that keeps my bg in order AND me satiated for longer too.

probably running a massive (for my size) calorie deficit too, but literally can't eat any more than I am at the moment though, seems like I'm still eating loads, and feel great.

That said I'm guessing this is initial held fluids AND I'm a pretty big lump at the moment, so it falls off when I start eating sensibly, it will obviously slow down a lot more in the coming weeks to a more steady pace and I'm okay with that as I'm focused on health and how I feel.

Feel faster on my feet too.

Down 3.8. A combo of moving more, eating less and dodging the sweet stuff.

To those who say " only a pound" remember sustainable weight loss is done a pound or two a week, through consistent lifestyle changes we can live with and build on.

Down 1.35Kg on the week (around 3lbs). Trying to target 1Kg per week at present.

Attached a screenshot from the app that comes with my smart scale (Made by Renpho, currently £17.50 on Amazon UK if anyone is interested in gadgets). I weigh myself first thing in the morning after using the bathroom, to try to minimize the effect of stored body water, but even then it shows I lost over a kilo in one day. It's impossible I lost that much fat so fast to it must be down to body water levels. As an experiment I plan to start averaging my weight measurements each week and using the change between weekly averages to estimate my rate of weight loss, to try to overcome the body water problem. I hope that by doing that I'll get more accurate feedback on how the things I'm eating and the exercise I'm been doing affects my weight change.
