Weight

If we knew the answer to that big question we would be closer to understanding more about diabetes. We know that insulin "can" be a driver for weight gain but we do not know why some people lose weight with better bg control, some people never lose much weight and for some people weight loss can stall after an initial loss. We are far from solving the puzzle.
 
Why do some diabetics lose weight, but some do not ?

It's a big mystery. Some even lose weight when they are close to being "underweight" already (like me). Others don't.

One thing that seems fairly clear is that there is not necessarily a connection between losing weight, and properly controlling your blood glucose. Some people manage to control diabetes (with diet for example) but don't lose weight, or only lose a little bit of weight.

This is why the "stereotype" that people get diabetes because they are overweight, or that people already diagnosed with diabetes are lazy because they cannot control their weight and deal with their condition, is so wrong. Being overweight is statistically associated with Type 2 diabetes but the whole cause/effect mechanism is not clear at all.

I did not know this before I was diagnosed in February. Because I am thin, I assumed diabetes would Never Happen To Me.

In the past nine months, I also learned that public knowledge of diabetes (and even sometimes, knowledge of diabetes among people who actually have the disease) is terribly bad. I am still trying to learn, but it's a very complex disease. It is actually a very interesting subject, in a sobering kind of way.

One possible reason is that whilst concentrating hard on What we eat to lower our BG we loose track of the quantity. I always find that in spite of all the many diet fads around weight loss comes from Eating Less combined with exercise of course
 
Listen up. I am a Teletubby ok, but I will not and never will obsess about my weight. I have eaten more healthy than I ever have in my life since being diagnosed, but it's not the be all and end all for me. You have to be happy in your own skin and mental wellbeing far outweighs kg and st lb

Eating less is contextual. Here in America everything is supersized, including the plates of food and the "normal" food portions at the supermarket. When I go back to France regularly, I immediately notice the much smaller portion sizes in restaurants and so forth. When I first moved to America I could never finish my plate, but that changed over time!
 
I think deciphering the puzzle might be a good thing thanks to everyone

What I meant by eating less is less than YOU normally do because portion sizes differ set your own level ,if your used to bigger plates use smaller ones etc. whatever was you Normal Serving Gradually Reduce it to half
 
I'm losing weight on insulin.
I'm losing because my bgs if kept in longterm good control help my body function normally.
Hence lose weight as I don't eat much anyway.
I'm on low income and in a family of four. Most people in my oosition cannot afford to eat. I struggle to keep food in the cupboards, for sure. I'm still 9stones overweight. Eating food only helps me a little. Diet isn't the full picture for me and my diabetes.
Excellent control has to be longterm for my body to function properly. End of.

Hi. If you are diagnosed as T2 but are actually a T1 but late onset and it is only appearing only gradually you can be losing weight as the body burns fat as it can't burn carbs due to lack of insulin. Other reasons include the body's metabolism which varies greatly.

Yes I'm T2D but my BS is normal I loss about 32kg in 9 years ago

The 'Eat less Move more' mantra has been shoved down our throats for over forty years. It does not work, especially for those with Type 2 Diabetes. The CICO (Calories in, caloris out) equation bears no scrutiny as not all calories are created equally. It is less important to note portion size than to note *where* your calories are comin from.

Hello don't mean to be rude but which teletubby are you I loved them when my kids were little lol
 
Well I cut my carbs right down to no more than 15g a day, exercise, is house work, shopping etc, T1, and yes I smoke now I have sworn sorry for that, but that's me, BG are good at the moment, but tomorrow is any day just saying
 
I think I got an answer but I'm not sure

People who lose weight due to insulin deficiency and people who have insulin resistance may have increased weight
