2 spine opperations /knee opp/rymurtoid /then diabetes ,all the rest i can live with ,but i was shocked at the attitude of the doctor =lost 2 stone in 2 months and went to the doctor had a blood test, gluco level 25 ,he perscribed metformin ,said see the nurse she gave me an infomation pack most of which was common sense ,went back a week later to be told you will go to desmonds ,desmonds what i said ,oh its a clinic says he ,i checked it out and found it was a diy one day course to take the weight of the nhs ,then i find out that its oversubscribed and i cant get in for 2months ,the diatitcian only comes around once a month, and blood tests are six weeks apart ,
so did some research on the net and went back and asked for a meter and strips on perscription he says the pct dont give meters or strips on perscrition ,yes i went up there and did an upfront job as it turns out they will allow 100 strips and lancets but under the nice guidelines its down to the doctor if he feels it is [clinicly nesessary ]as the gov are sacking the pct,s they are giving the purse strings over to the doctors dont hold your breath !

I knew nothing about T2 until 3 weeks ago ,but i did find out that asda will test your blood for free if you are worried and dont have a meter, they checked mine and it was down to 13.5 they phoned the doctor because they were concerned and he said take another pill a day !

so then i decided to get my own meter only to find that even coded i did not have the calibration fluid ,so i took it back and got my money back ,i sent an email to the company and it turns out that they sent me a meter and the test solution free of change ,with a little book to keep track of results plus free battteries for life free replacment if it goes wrong and a download cable for the computer [yes i know the strips are the money maker ]and they are probaly made in china for 10p a hundred but that said great company and good product.

after trying to get anything done iv given up on the system the doctor drives next years audi ragtop and i drive a 93 citroen diesel [non turbo ]he is getting paid thousands to treat patients ,or in my case not ] i tried with the pals at the pct [hopeless ] so gave up.

got a book on minerals and vitiamins its the dogs[vitermins and minerals ,a step by step guide] easy to read and only 58 pages ] and found some essencial minerals and vits, after a week the
gluco level dropped from 13.5 to 7.4 ,so if i can get down about 5.5 /6 i will be happy.

As for bad feet i caught atherletes foot at a swimming pool and had eczema on my feet after trying a few things i found out that scholl TOLNAFTATE foot spray cleared it up =wash feet at night and spray/= same in the morning ,make sure its TOLNAFTATE and not the powder as thats ccccccccrap

right thats my ***** now iv done that i feel better:

Hey oobuc5, you have done really well to get your numbers down to the 7's, its not uncommon for GP's to not have too much diabetic knowledge so your not alone there.

You might have better luck if you can ask for a referral to a diabetic unit, all PCT should have one. If you can get to speak with a dedicated diabetic nurse/endo you will find them much more helpful.

Go ask your doctor, or find your local diabetic unit and ring them and ask how you get to speak with someone there, the back door approach can sometimes work. My doctor is brilliant but he doesn't know everything, GP's are just that General Practitioners, try to get to see a specialist :D

The free meter/solutions/batteries etc is standard practice and at least gets you started with a few free strips and as you say the big bucks are in the sale of test strips.

Whether you get test strips or not is a bit of a lottery for T2's but there are some services you are entitled to, an annual retinal scan, foot checks, free eye tests for glasses etc and once your on the system and registered these should come through every year.

Good luck with your new diabetic path it does get easier :D

Carry on Diabetic (Yeovil)

It is just like a carry on film trying to get anything done in yeovil diagnosed T2 the doctor has a good line when i said about a gluco level of 25 ,dont worry your on the pills you wont die !
It would seem that the doctor is god because the nhs appointments booking people will refer you back to see him]the pct =pals It is just like a carry on film trying to get anything done in yeovil diagnosed T2 the doctor has a good line when i said about a gluco level of 25 ,dont worry your on the pills you wont die !
It would seem that the doctor is god because the nhs appointments booking people will refer you back to see him]the pct =pals =well all you can do is change doctors = i did saw another doctor at the same practice=he did not want to discuss anything if you go to the practice manageress your welcome includes an officiouse manner and leagalistic references like [i cant comment on clinical matters ]
their desmonds is over[ subscibed ] by 2 months ,but according to the practice manageress its not ,and why is this[ well they have a queueing system ! ] [ a request to see a diabetic dietician ends up with [see the nurse ] and get a some leaflets ,ok i will get refured to another hospital 20 miles away =i get a letter from the doctor saying that they dont diabetics there [no mate they dont they treat them at the hospital 100yds away ]as well he knows = go and tell them all of this at the pct ,that means you get to a pals person you would think after hearing all of this they would do some thing [WRONG ] they tell you to see your doctor ! or just leave the surgury and go somwhere else .
TALK ABOUT WASTING MONEY IN THE SYSTEM ,THEY PAY ALL OF THESE PEOPLE TO DO A JOB ,PROBLEM IS THEY CANT DO THE JOB !

So the saga continues now im going to print out a request for a refural to a hospital in the next county ,i will of course check that they have the services that i need first,
then the doctors can explane why the other county have to be paid for treating me .

with strict no sugar and reading all of the labels ,plus i did some reasearch on the b comlex with chomium and zinc and am taking them the headaches have gone and i feel better in my self, a wife that can cook and look at the diabetic books is a god send and my sugar has gone done to 7.4 =2 days ago checked at asda [doctor says no more blood tests for 6 WEEKS, not bad as 3 weeks ago it was 25.5 ,only things to get now is a podiatrist ? and an eye test the only thing that worrys me is blood tests are six weeks apart and if anything crops up you could be dead or worse letting them do the paperwork and getting paid for it.
bought my own meter and have settled for a check once a week the pct say they will pay for the strips and the lancets but its down to your doctor [IF HE THINKS THERE IS A CLINICAL NEED ]
The company i got my meter from also gave me a form with it for[ a perscription for this ]
Well we will see how it goes:
