What Carbs do we all count

Hi

Just had a DAFNE follow up meeting and was discussing if we should count the carbs in various vegetables
Obviously we should all be counting Parsnips, swede and potato but which veg do you ignore from the carb point of view?
Curious as to what others are doing

Hi I count carrots and swede, but I don't eat parsnips not keen on them. There are also beans, peas, sweetcorn, I don't eat these either.

I count everything. I wouldn't if its a bit of green salad, but I eat quite large quantities of vegetables, which can add up to more than 10g

I have been counting everything too but still going a bit lower than target after my dinner, despite a ratio of 1 unit to 20g of carbs

Yes I was taught the same, but I don't really agree with it. Medium, red pepper is 7g, large tomato about 5g. Why would I ignore it? They also teach to ignore lentils...

Thats my thoughts on the issue too
Just wanted some consensus from here to see what other T1's are doing
 
I count everything. DAFNE also teaches that you can have 1 free 10g carb portion a day and I found that not to be the case for me, so I just count everything.

Except celery
 
Never been on DAFNE or any course, I try to count everything, but quite a bit of the time it's just a wild guess.
 
Consensus seems to be carry on as i am counting for everything, that's what I will do

I never count carrots but have to count parsnips. I used to count beans but go hypo now, so stopped.

I think it's another case of what works for one won't necessarily work for someone else. Trial and error is the only thing you can do.
 
A carb is a carb so I count everything as it will impact on bg levels sooner or later, like most meals its all about the timing and getting the bolus dose right.

I also count all beans and lentils, and other veg like butternut squash, avocado, etc.

I don't count leafy green veg, but I do count peas and broad beans, and sweet corn too.

It's what works for you, I think. It also depends on the quantity. For example, I don't usually count nuts if I'm just having a few, but if they're a substantial part of the meal, eg nut roast, then I do. Also, I don't normally count peppers, but when I have stuffed peppers, I do have a bit extra insulin to cover the larger quantity.
 
Everything.. Even lettuce, cucumber, olives, avocado, onion, rocket, tomatoes as a salad adds up to carbs.. I'm a T1 though and inject so probably affects me more than a T2....
 
I am type 1 in honeymoon so can get away with a bit
 
There is no such thing as carb free food. Dafne educators say we can have a carb free lunch to check we are on the right dose of basal, it is wrong. Read Bernstein's book, it is great and explains how no food is free.
 
I don't count leafy green stuff as I'd need to eat a bucketful to make any difference, so no count for courgettes, brocolli, cabbage, chicory, lettuce, cucumber, peppers etc. Olives, at soemthing like 3g carbs/100g - I'm not eating 100g of olives.

Tomatoes yes, peas/beans/lentils yes, roots yes, squashes yes - so that means that I'd count for coleslaw for example.

Nuts, generally no as the rise is too slow to make any difference, even with cashews which are quite high in carbs
Eggs, meat, fish (not vegetables, I know) but unless my meal is entirely made up of these, then I won't count. By experience a 3-egg omlette might raise my BG by about 1.0mmol/l, and it will then be back to the starting point by the next meal
