Those are good numbers xyzzy - I read that first as 'Bitter Lemon Powder' and was wondering if a bottle of the stuff with a vodka would have the same effect.

Well that can't taste any worse than what I tried this morning which was mix two teaspoons of the powder with some yoghurt. Never ever again

There must be a better way...

Hi, glad you enjoyed my aubergine lasagna xxxx

Last night I was in a hurry, and someone on here had suggested tesco curry sauce in a jar, chinese style) she is diabetic and this is the only one she can tolerate sugar wise,

Her recipe is chuck what ever you fancy, onions, chicken veg ect, and simmer until cooked in sauce,

It was ridiculously tasty, and im not a great lover of jars, i like my own curries, but it was lush :D

Had it with spring cabbage, sliced into ribbons, quickly stir fried with a knob of butter, yum yum

Breakfast - half a red grapefruit, coffee & cream
Lunch - on the run so Tesco prawn mayo sandwich filler and a chicken and bacon sandwich filler
Supper - 3 high meat (97%) sausages and broccoli and cauliflower mash (with some salt and pepper, Parmesan cheese and creme freche) and water.

I also drink coffee (3 or 4 cups of vile office coffee) and lots of water throughout the day.

I REALLY wanted a glass of red wine in the evening but She Who Must Be Obeyed and I are trying not to booze in the week.

Very nice too! :D

I picked up two bottles yesterday in Tesco's for the weekend, it's on offer at the moment at £4.99

Yesterday I had:

Breakfast: 2 wholemeal rice cracker with a bit of butter

Lunch: some shop bought chicken soup and a greek yogurt (will try and cook my own soup next week)

Dinner: gammon with green beans, an egg and a tiny bit of mashed potatoes

during the day i had plenty of water and coffee with soya milk.

I really want to start experimenting with some of the gorgeous recipies here, but i need to watch my calories too so i might give the cakes a miss for now :(

I had fish and chips as we were out for lunch and they smelled divine had mushy peas as well .Not to be recommended BGs were 12.8 after 2 hours  And my GP told me that it was the pills he gave me that controlled my BGs not the food that I ate .Its a good thing that I didnt believe him and found this forum.Scrambled eggs today back to being a good carb limiter

Stuffed bacon wrapped chicken breasts, aubergine and feta bake, mixed leaf and tomato and onion salad.
Mug of tea and lc biscuit, small spoon of Bavarian cream dessert that my daughters made, I had to sample it. Very nice it is too, wouldn't think its low carb.

Not wishing to turn into a grapefruit zealot; but pink grapefruit rocks as a breakfast.

Half of one is about 6 carbs.

They are beautifully tangy to wake you up and they contain Lycopene which is apparently A GOOD THING http://chemistry.about.com/cs/biochemis ... 50401a.htm

I've found that I need less insulin to cover those carbs than I would otherwise need so I'm becoming increasingly excited at my new go to breakfast option.

Don't eat them if you take Statins; but why not use that as another reason not to take Statins?

Also, eating grapefruit with good coffee makes me feel like a jet setting sophisticate...

Breakfast is still the carbiest meal as I usually have some porridge and a coffee (it's about 26g). I don't usually test at 2hrs after this, but when I have it's been fine. I find my morning swim is difficult if I try just having the coffee.

Lunch is settling in to a pattern of a salad (Rocket, Cress, Spinach) with Silverskin Onions, cherry toms if I have them and then either meatballs, sausage or some fish (Mackerel today) on top. I bought some tiny tupperware pots and these have peanuts, greek Yog or 3-4 prunes. By filling small pots you don't take too much.

My evening meal was difficult because I'm very susceptible to carbs by then - probably because my long acting insulin has worn off. So I've been avoiding all potato, rice, pasta and bread.
Last night was low carb sausages with roasted Celeriac and green beans followed by a bit more greek yoghurt and some cranberries.

I heard someone on another thread describe us low-carbers as some sort of nuts and seeds freaks (or similar), but I love this diet.

Fish (see low carb recipe section) with ratatouille and roasted bacon wrapped swede (cut swede into chunks wrap bacon round secure with sprig of rosemary roast with a little clarified butter)
Mug of tea melt-away-lemon cookie

For breakfast: Mixed a couple of fresh strawberries with some strawberry yoghurt and some plain Greek yoghurt (+2 hours 5.6)

For lunch: Bacon, egg and mushrooms (+2 hours 5.6)

For dinner: Cauliflower cheese with bacon & chicken. Then fresh fruit salad for desert (+2 hours 6.2)

Various mugs of coffee and a pint of caffeine free diet coke.

yesterday I ate
Breakfast Special K mini breaks half a packet with a cup of tea
Lunch was a slice of burgen bread with 2 slices of corn beef and 2 tablespoons of low fat potato salad
Afternoon snack handfull of grapes
Dinner was 2 sausages, 2 fried eggs, 2 mushrooms and 2 tablespoons beans with 1 slice burgen bread. Strawberries and double cream for pudding
Snack was 2 pieces of 70% chocolate
lots of tea and 1 diet coke during the day.

Its curry tonight. I have to say that food consumes my every day since diagnosis. Maybe that is good not bad I certainly think about food more and try to eat what is right and hopefully better for me than before.

For breakfast: Mixed a couple of fresh strawberries with some strawberry yoghurt and some plain Greek yoghurt (+2 hours 5.4)

For lunch: Bacon and mushrooms on slice of Burgen (+2 hours 5.3)

For dinner: Out celebrating with friends and family pub meal

Starter : breaded mushrooms,
Main : large steak with a fried egg and bacon topping (had to ask for that), few onion rings and mushrooms - no chips
Desert : cheese and biscuits (ate 4) followed by a small slice of chocolate birthday cake

Drinks : Pint of lager and two G&T's with slimline tonic

Meal took around an hour an a half so from finishing the final slice of cake (+30 mins 5.4 +1 hour 5.6 +2 hours 5.6) A great result thanks largely to the gin I suspect as although the main meal was low carb I was expecting quite a spike from the very rich and very sugary cake which never happened. Great night out.

Various other mugs of coffee and a pint of caffeine free diet coke in the afternoon.

Total carbs for the day estimated at around 90g
