What do you miss from the 'Olden Days'?

No but it does remind me of trying to describe a 'string vest' to my husband and step son only yesterday. Stepson asked 'did they wear it on top of their shirt?' Forgot they call vests singlets over here and vests are waistcoats. I guess the purpose of it having holes in was to wear in the summer? Maybe one of the chaps could enlighten me!

No the holes were to hold the heat and keep you warm. I'd forgotten about those revolting garments.

We were discussing the winter of 62/63 on facebook and how we kept warm. I remembered the liberty bodice, vest and flannel petticoat we had to wear under our clothes, I'm surprised we could move!

In my teenage years Mum used to fill it with little things like sachets of shampoo, soaps etc. And I always loved getting the selection boxes .. My gran passed away on Christmas morning when I was 7 and I remember the present I got from her and my Grandad ... a vanity case and inside was a huge bag of threepenny pieces that she'd been collecting through the year. It was a sad day and I remember filling the case up with all the chocolates from the selection boxes and my older sister and I went with our new bags for a walk through the snow. :(

Winter 1963 the river Thames froze over at Windsor. Down stream at Chertsey, my brother played football in the middle of the river.
That was a hard winter.

Another favourite of mine with Brinsley Ford and the little girl, tiger ?? hope I've got that right. I used to love Follyfoot farm, the guy was dreamy and the girl was just too pretty:cool: and Black beauty as well :)
Does anyone remember a foreign childrens programme with a surly, demanding, high maintenance girl who was put in this place with a singing ringing tree and a dwarf type person. Was it called 'The Singing ringing tree?' Nordic perhaps, this is all from memory and not from Googling.

I long for the days when the choice of shampoo was for dry normal or greasy & maybe a herbal one. Now you have to decide if you want one for curly hair, straight hair, frizzy hair control, brunette blonde.Takes forever to decide.
