My Doctor thinks that if my Blood Glucose is 3.5 then that is fine but when the nurse told my to check over a week I felt really bad and felt like I could eat 3-4 meals lol.... done a test and my BG Reading was 3.5 I had a snack and then I felt ok again who would you trust the doctor or my body and the meter ??? Thanks

I would say 3.5 is a little low. If you drive a car, it would be illegal at this level. I would aim for between 5 & 7 ideally. As you say, listen to your body. If you don't feel right, it's not right !

This is only illegal for an insulin dependant diabetic. For everyone else it's fine apparently

Hi. A level of 3.5 is a bit too low. DVLA says 5.0 and above for driving if on insulin and that's good general advice. I was 3.1 this morning and 3.2 yesterday before breakfast and starting to get the shakes so for me 3.5 is getting too near the mark. So, trust the meter and your own experience, if any, of going into hypo.

We are all different. I'm fine at 3.5, but not everyone is. 3.5 - 5.5 is a quoted normal for non-diabetics

As a rule-of-thumb, "4 is the floor". If you start to feel shaky or not quite right, check your BGs. If you're low, chew a couple of glucose tabs and test again in 15 minutes. If still too low, have another. If you're already feeling better, then have a digestive biscuit or a couple of oatcakes to keep you going until you can have "proper" food.

I have 2 test kits, one at home, one in my handbag. I also have glucose tabs (available from all chemists) in each kit, in my bag, in the car and at home. I think I've only had to use them once, but better safe than sorry. I have a Type 2 friend who has no hypo awareness and is forever collapsing in public and getting the paramedics out. She's been told by her HCP that testing is unnecessary for Type 2s
