What does the UK leaving the EU mean for us?

We can't make trade deals with them whilst in the EU according to fullfact.org.
 
Based on the reduction of the UK's credit rating this evening there is now even less money to go around. The increased cost of borrowing has taken the cost of servicing the national debt up by £22bn annually. Even if there was going to be a repatriation of the EU money, that one act has just wiped out those gains plus more. There is in reality going to be a lot less available for the NHS.

I find it impossible to believe we will leave the EU solely because the Govt do have the final vote on it when they come back with the Brexit plan...

Not so, we're a parliamentary democracy - we elect parliament (not the government by the way, the whole of parliament) to make our laws for us. We give them the control to make decisions on our part, because it's more convenient that way - they do the in-depth research and the diplomacy and all that kind of stuff which, to be frank we can't be bothered with and make a more responsible considered choice based on that information. That's the theory anyway.

For example, we're leaving it to them to negotiate the terms of brexit, not giving us endless referendums. However, when they've got a deal, it might be then MORE democratic to put that deal to a referendum. It might, for instance, turn out that the deal they come up with is 'Brexit-lite' which is not extreme enough for the leave, or it might be it's too heavy and to try to salvage our country the leave voters finally see sense and want to get back in.
 
It also seems to mean that the Deputy Clinical Director for Diabetes for NHS England and Wales, a British Born Asian in a very senior NHS position is receiving racist threats and abuse.

Sorry to bang on about this, but I hate the way it is being swept under the carpet, and that a very good, very progressive senior clinician directly involved in Diabetes Care is receiving this kind of abuse, really saddens me.

Totally agree it's disgusting, it was predictable though. It's what my family and I feared would happen if Brexit won. These bigots truly believe they are doing the right thing for their country and they believe that others are backing them, even though of course they aren't. Maybe it's time for the majority of leave voters to get together and stand up and say 'This violence and intimidation isn't what I voted for' rather like the decent Muslims speaking out against the terrorists.

I have family in Italy and it does look like Italy is heading that way, I do hope for my family's sake out there it doesn't repeat 'Greece' :-(
 
someone I spoke to at work this morning said that we need to get a General Election underway asap. Labour could do a coalition agreement with the Lib Dems (the Lib Dems have already said that if they are voted in, they will get us back in the EU but that is probably their way of saying 'this is our chance now to get into government').

Either way, we need someone who is strong enough to lead us out of this mess and in my honest opinion, I don't think we will come out of the EU completely, it looks like it could be suicidal for us if we do but we need a leader to sort out what is best for the country but with the democratic voting I don't know how it will pan out. Someone (possibly the new leader) should go on TV and address the Nation and say what this will mean for us but then my colleague did say that during the campaign, President Obama spoke, Mark Carney spoke, the PM spoke, the Chancellor spoke and all ex-leaders but it was seen as President Obama interfering in our affairs.

Not going to be easy!
 
I was most annoyed about the fact that the £350 million or whatever it was, was confirmed to be NOT TRUE! :|

But you were told this at the outset. Very early on in the campaign it was made very clear that this simply wasn't how much money was involved at all, and that the likelihood that it would all go into the NHS was incredibly low, but it was all dismissed as project fear and scaremongering, and experts couldn't possibly know what they were talking about.

As it happens, none will now due to the increase in our costs of borrowing last night. If anything, the amount of money available to the NHS will drop as we simply can't afford it, so those services will become worse, not better.
 

I don't think our chances of being allowed back in are very high.
Changing our mind down the road won't set the clock back to last Thursday.
The damage has been done, it's better for the rest of the EU to let us crash and burn, as an example for all the other want to be 'leavers'.
