What does the UK leaving the EU mean for us?

I do too.... though given the time taken.... I suspect the generals are going to be hung out to dry and the ministers will just slip away...
 
You can't take your eyes of this for long.
Now forecasting a cut in interest rates, possibly down to zero, and rising food prices as cost of imports increase.
Pensioners living off their savings will see a drop in income.
Own brands will become popular, and Aldi and LIdl will see an even bigger increase in market share.

I've had three days of waiting for the markets from the Nikkei opening to the Dow closing, I've had enough of it for now. I think I'm as covered as I can be for the time being.
Now it's time for a bottle of wine, and they can do what they do by themselves for a few days now.

My view is this. I waited a year to go on a diet programme that was intended to support me while I was pre-diabetic and hopefully prevent me developing diabetes - during that year on the waiting list I had to take drugs for my fibromyalgia that increased my weight and ironically on the date of my first appointment of the diet support I was told I was diabetic.
I waited 6 months for a consultation at my hospital because overnight I lost a quarter of the sight in one of my eyes. The appointment was classed as urgent (six months)! - I have been referred to a thyroid consultant twice, that last time was 18 months ago. Despite chasing I have never even had a letter to say I am on a waiting list. I am on a waiting list to attend a expert patient course. I have been promised a date in September. I was referred at the end of March. I am on a very long waiting list for podiatry - one of the toes on my foot is completely numb. My diabetic doctor said I had to see him in six weeks for a diabetic check up, there were no appointments until 9 weeks time. I have more but its boring and I know that many people feel frustrated about similar occurrences with their own health care. The point I am making is that all that happened while we were part of the EU. Can it get worse now we are out of the EU? In my case I am not sure that it would make much difference to be honest. As far as the economy is concerned. I was poor while we were in the EU and I am sure I will still be still poor now we are out. I am not one of the lucky ones who risk losing millions of pounds. Do I care that someone else will lose millions. Not really.

The problem is, if they lost millions, it's not usually their millions, and even in the few cases where it is, they still have millions more.
But if you only have a few quid, when you lose that few quid, it makes a lot more difference.
 
with the loss of the AAA credit rating the payments on the national debt are increased by 0.5% which is much more than any saving made by leaving the EU. and listening to the EU referendum reporting at least 10-30% of the leave voters were just giving the tory government a kick when they could, so a large part of leave was a vote of no confidence in the government

Well, I now have direct impact of what it means. I work for a European company. Overnight, abusive graffiti was sprayed on the walls. Spanish and Turkish shops in my home area of London (that voted remain by 78%) had their windows smashed. Forget all the **** that's about to happen, Xenophobia, racism and right wing extremism is coming to the fore. I may have mentioned it in a post in the how will you be voting topic.

And with the reduction in available government spending, it will only get worse. I could make comparisons of Nigel Farage with historical figures, but fundamentally, this is a very bad place.

That's incredibly sad:(

I was thinking tonight that the level of seriousness is as near as WW2 footing as we have seen in my life. To that end we need a steady, stabilising states person to guide us through, reaching out across the house, similar to what Churchill did so remarkably.

Yes the NHS can get a lot worse, it can cease to exist. What some don't realise is that the people with millions employ others (even indirectly through their spending habits) and pay taxes (most of them do). Your post touches on a valid point though, many voted leave because of jealousy - jealousy of the rich and even those just slightly better off and jealousy of immigrants getting the jobs that Brits simply don't want to do.

Brexit has already affected my family adversely financially ( a house sale lost being just one of the things that has happened since Thursday) and it will affect you too when you buy groceries in the future and when we have no NHS.

My son said this morning that he simply doesn't care now, he doesn't feel this is his country, the one he was born into anymore. The oldies have said "We've got our country back". Those under the age of 40 have lost theirs.

This is a statement I tend to agree with, although I know it's not as clear cut as that.

I agree, nothing is that clear-cut but that's how it seems to both of my sons and quite honestly my family is all I care about now. I am going out of my way to be kind to immigrants and as for the rest of the country...well the country has spoken and that's democracy. It seems turkeys do vote for Christmas after all.

Saw my consultant on Monday. He is internationally renowned in terms of treatment & research. His face told a story: he was gutted. He actually said this could be the worse thing that's happened to this country since WW2. And do you know what? I agree with him. I am devastated about what this means for people. The 54% rise in race crime almost overnight; the xenophobia now legitimised by the leave vote; the lack of EU funding to support research of both chronic and rare health conditions; that now a huge % of the NHS workforce do not feel welcome in our country. We will lose talent; investment; ideas - we have already lost the respect of Europe and possibly the world. I note how the previously passionate Brexiters have now gone very quiet on this thread. Did anyone actually believe the lies spouted by Farage and his kind? Really? I am deeply saddened and honestly fearful about the rise of the far right - which is already happening here and in Europe. Sorry for the rant. I need to let this out!
