"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

Sicily is proving warm and interesting . Lots of churches temples and ruins, all taken with good food and plenty of wine. And uts much cheaper than UK
Good to hear from you @MrsA2.

There's something magical and rather romantic about an island; a secluded, sometimes secretive world tucked away and completely surrounded by water.

Well day 2 of PHC Conference was exceptional too although last session on cholesterol lasted 2 hours and 15 mins and was a bit more challenging for my brain after two days of listening!
Early afternoon session though included Eddie Abbew and was very entertaining. His style is very influential for young people so it's good to see stuff happening to influence better nutrition at an earlier preventable stage.
@jpscloud I thought of you this morning when hearing an excellent session on food addiction and this resource was mentioned
It's not on their site yet but they mentioned that they were planning to run a liberate online course next month and thought you may be interested? If interested you could contact and ask if they could let you know about next course if it sounds like your thing?
Overall I felt the 2024 PHC conference was the best one ever and I'd recommend listening once it's released on You Tube later this year.
Thanks @shelley262 that sounds very interesting - I will have a look.

I've unwatched the main What have you eaten thread. I'm now too confused to keep both open so will only use this one from now on. I think it will be far more useful to me and I don't enjoy that tight feeling in my brain when things don't appear that I'm sure I have posted. Not one to suffer from stress usually, but this is getting to me. Answer for me is to step away and relax.

Shortly, I'll be having the left-over fish stew from yesterday and that will be my breakfast.

2nd meal will be chicken curry made with coconut milk.

"Counter-weight" class is starting up again this afternoon so we'll see what they make of my weight loss over these last couple of months. BG is a bit high this morning - that's after it yo-yoing a bit yesterday evening but it will probably settle after breakfast.

I've been thinking about this issue of 2 "What have you eaten.." threads and why I have been uncomfortable recently. I now realise that it's because I don't only want to see what possibilities there are in low carb food but also because I need the support of all you guys and girls. A bare statement of menus just isn't helpful to me without knowing the effects or difficulties associated with the food. Diabetes, after all, doesn't just involve what we eat. It is also medication, lifestyle, other health issues, mental health, family and so on. To me, these issues are actually as important as the food and it is only because of the support and encouragement I have had from all of you that I have managed to make the improvements that I have so far. That's why I am now concentrating on this thread and the "Fasting BG - with chat" one.

Hi mea culpa missing again! @Annb I think I will do the same and stick with this thread otherwise the parameters of the other thread just makes it like a shopping list and you are so right the camaraderie is just too important. I don’t recall the other thread always being so strict previously.
Anyway back to Friday because dinner was outrageous! Had my usual brekkie of slice LC toast, good butter and copious tea. Lunch was cheese and bits. Then went to the fish man and asked him about cooking whole lemon sole each. We actually like teasing fish off the bone when in restaurants and flipping it over and ending up with a skeleton on the plate. He upsold me two fish which were WAY too big. I panfried them on separate pans with lemon, butter and capers. They didn’t fit on dinner plates but my pizza plates and though tasty they were just too much. Felt like gluttons. Lesson learnt. I took photo on my phone but can’t seem to download here
On ipad. Saturday was usual brekkie, lunch was sliced ham and coleslaw. Then gave in to good bread hanging around! Afterwards the shame!
Supper was Chinese t/a which was couple of bbq ribs and afterwards King Prawn with ginger & spring onion, enough veg so no other accompaniment needed.
Yesterday same brekkie. Then a bit of a prawn day, Mr P was away, of h/mPrawn Cocktail for lunch and Youngs Jumbo scampi with Butterhead leaves in the evening. I have just discovered Yorkshire Tea and Biscuits flavour and love it! I don’t know how they get the biscuit flavour in but its like (in a previous life) dunking a Rich Tea biscuit and losing half into the mug. No effect on BG. Not for my morning routine but as an afternoon drink its really uplifting. The other tea I have got into is the Twinings bags for cold water bottles, passionfruit Mango and orange is lovely. I start with a wide neck 1 litre water bottle, drop in a bag and top up and use from the fridge, when I top up the water I add another tea bag. Zero carbs and very refreshing and a bit different.
@Antje77 I enjoyed the cat on the umbrella and wondered how the ducklings are doing. @shelley262 hope you enjoyed your break in Brum and it wasn’t too cold. @MrsA2 your Sicily adventure sounds wonderful, I love wandering around old churches anywhere.

I do like the idea of cold water tea bags, especially the passionfruit, mango and orange but I just checked the ingredients online and the ones I can see contain stevia. Not for me, I'm afraid, but I plan to make my own soft drinks just with water and some small amounts of fruits (mixed berries, lemon, ginger with either orange or lemon). Even a very small amount of fruit in a large amount of water makes it very refreshing.

It gives the very helpful (not!) message of "engine fault " nothing else!!
Mine also intermittently gives a warning sound, something like "ploing ploing". It can be gone for weeks, it can ploing just once, or it can keep ploinging for ten minutes sometimes.
But not even a light to go with it to indicate what it wants to tell me so I've been ignoring this behaviour for years. Apparently it's just part of the ever evolving personality of my now elderly car.
Sounds as though your car needs its electrical system sorted out.
It does. I all started in december when my car suddenly stopped working. Brought it to the mechanics who found out the small holes to let out water in the space under the window wipers were clogged, and the space was filled with water, very close to electrical stuff. They cleaned it but the car didn't work. It was the end of the day, so my car spent the night in their heated workplace, and the next day it worked again, more or less!

A few weeks later it had issues again, so I checked and cleaned every fuse I could find, and it worked again!
Another week later it would start sometimes, and sometimes not, keeping planning interesting. Thank heavens for friendly neighbours who often don't need their car!
At some point I found out the trick is in the ceiling light: car starts if light is on but not if light is off. Occasionally the light won't go on, but usually the trick is to turn the whole system off and back on by disconnecting the battery for a few seconds.
All fine with me, I can live with that, let's hope the mechanics are of the same opinion...
From your post on that other thread - Are you thinking of Penticost, Antje? It is a Christian celebration but comes from a Jewish celebration at the same time of year. Do you get a day off for it in the Netherlands?

Or are you thinking of Whitsun? That's a church based celebration and, I think, is purely Christian.
Not sure, it's called pinksteren in the Netherlands, it has something to do with the descent of the Holy Spirit, but that's about all I know.
In my country, this descent must have been a bit slow, just like the birth of Christ, because we have 1st and 2nd kerstdag (Christmas day) and 1st and 2nd pinksterdag. All those days are mandatory days off in many professions.
Wikipedia says Pentecost is the same as Whitsun, so I'm completely confused now. :hilarious: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pentecost
@Antje77 I enjoyed the cat on the umbrella and wondered how the ducklings are doing.
They are doing amazing with their two mums!
Mum Duck supervises the swimming, but they prefer to sleep under Mum Chicken. Both mums follow the ducklings around the garden all day. :joyful:

I had a short day at work today, nothing more to do after painting the deck but wait for the paint to dry. So I called my neighbour to pick me up after I'd dropped off my car for wednesdays MOT. A bit early, but neighbour will be away for two days working on the island of Terschelling, and he had the day off today so now was the best moment to drop off the car.

Back home it was more wood hauling. Yesterday we filled (and emptied) 5 trailers of heavy wood, today we did 3 more, almost finished now. I'm sure my neighbour has enough firewood for the whole winter now! :)
I definitely reached any exercise goals I could possibly have over the past 3 days. :hilarious:

Hiya hope everyone has had a good Monday
@PenguinMum we had a wonderful short break in Brum and it was quite warm needed the sunglasses! We went to the Ikon Gallery and this is me posing on the black Sabbath bridge on way back to meet our friends.

Btw @PenguinMum if you need to transfer a photo from a different device that you use for posting what I do as I post on my tablet is send the photo from my phone on email to myself and then open and save on the tablet it works well for me.
My food today was
Breakfast hm kefir then two boiled eggs and LC roll
Lunch a couple of strawberries and hm yoghurt
Dinner had planned lamb kebabs ordered from Waitrose for first time and didn't check nutrition for some reason and then when arrived on Saturday I checked label and was so shocked 4g carb per small kebab and ingredients list as long as your arm including honey, sugar, rice and potato flour so sadly had to gift to someone else and replan using chicken breast kebabs with nothing added other than a few spices and 0.4 grams of carbs per kebab. Definitely a shopping mistake and a reminder to me to check more carefully when shopping online. Ate with salad and kimchi.IMG_20240520_162852_burst_01.jpg

Winner for your wood shifting

Pentecost and Whitsun are both the same event but one is celebrated by the church and congregation and the other is more of a public event. It still isn't a public holiday though. Just as well - we already have May day, which should be May 1st but this year it was confused, some taking it on the last weekend in April and others taking the first weekend in May. I think I heard someone saying there is another one at the end of May as well.

Just back from my "Counterweight" supposed class. There were 3 staff and 2 weight losers. The other one was a man who simply couldn't stop talking and complaining that he couldn't lose weight because 1 he's diabetic, 2 everything he likes to eat is bad for him, 3 he hates everything that's good for him, 4 he doesn't drink alcohol but does drink Coke and 5 he can't stop smoking because that's the only thing that stops him putting on more weight. He spent half an hour non-stop on this. Then the class was over and we both came away. :banghead:

Hi all, just catching up on everyone’s news.Had a busy weekend. It’s my birthday today so done some fun things snd been a bit naughty food wise.
Went a sewing afternoon Saturday which was fun but one of the ladies had made a lovely selection of cakes and treats. Found it really hard to refuse (any tips?) especially as a couple of other Type 2’s were tucking in :(but I managed to get away with a tiny, tiny piece of Biscoff blondie and a small cheese straw, luckily everyone was distracted by sewing.
Yesterday daughter and boyfriend came over and we did an escape room which was fun and then lunch at Prezzo. They are vegan and hubby is gluten free so bit of a challenge to find somewhere for all of us.I had Tuscan sausages with a lentil ragu, very tasty and I couldn’t resist an Affogato.
Today,a beautiful sunny trip to Cambridge, lunch at Cote.I had salad with pancetta and a poached egg, then sea bass with grilled courgettes and eek 3 new potatoes. Then oh dear 2 scoops of gelato, pistachio and cherry while watching the tourists crashing punts on the river. Did do a lot of walking and blood was back to normal 2hrs after but will be really glad to get back to normal tomorrow.

Well I don’t know where to post now. I dont like to tap on my phone too much as my shoulder and neck go into spasm, I don’t have a laptop or tablet. I’ll come here for a bit and try to chat more.
B- 3 eggs
L-large salad with some of the slow roast turkey leg I cooked yesterday. The local farm is selling frozen turkey legs dirt cheap to clear their freezers. Apparently everyone wanted turkey crowns at Christmas so they had a lot of legs left.
D- https://eatapp.page.link/VGiEypPGo9aUMfhu8 very small salad with it and a glass of zero sugar organic white wine in the garden.

A bit late but Happy Birthday to you for - sounds like you had some lovely treats and a wonderful outing to Cambridge your escape room sounds fun too. Congratulations too on bringing your bloods back to normal and doing lots of walking. I walk every evening as it really helps me to lower mine.

Access to good quality turkey legs sounds good. Maybe mainly skim read posts but restrict your posting and typing to look after your neck. I've got a very cheap tablet that I mainly use for the forum, some reading online and online shopping to allow me to prop it up to reduce the neck strain.

You can use the ordinary herbal/fruit teas as cold infusions too, either cold from the beginning or hot and left to cool. Much, much cheaper that way. Imho .

I'm another one conflicted as to where to post.
Posting daily food and accompanying activity, fasting, temptations and tribulations is good for me, and hopefully for others, especially newbies....but not many will find us here...but here is where my support group is.

I can't understand why the powers that be don't open up a "what have you eaten today - some chat" thread.
Maybe we should just let the old one die off...
I really don't know.

Any way today I had
B: eggs, ham, cheeses nuts. 1 biscotti
L: a wonderful fennel, orange, walnut, olives and red onion salad. Later some nuts and cheeses stolen from breakfast
D: meatballs in lemon leaves, salmon and avocado salad. Pistachio ice cream. 2 large glasses wine

Bg has been nigh on perfect, even after the ice cream. But I'm hungry!! Portions are quite small
