"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

Today I decided I was going to sort out the small freezer and see what I could throw out, and if I could make space for some cupcakes. Found loads of little pots of veg stock plus 3 single serving packs of brisket in gravy and another four of something labelled "beef hotpot". Not at all sure what is in that. One thing is obviously tomato, judging by the colour of the frozen gravy around them. I was going to send them down for the dogs but, instead, decided to thaw them all out in a big pot and see what I am left with. Some basil, parsley and chilis which had lost their lids but were still frozen. Might add those to the beef tomorrow, if it's worth keeping. Also found four whole packs of frozen veg which I'd forgotten about - one of them is edame beans and will not be used, so gave them to DIL for her chickens. Also another little pot of home baked (butter) beans - they'll do for tomorrow. Still can't make enough room for the cupcakes.

This afternoon, Em's cooking experiment was some milk with a tiny amount of salt, a crumbled digestive biscuit, a few tiny chunks of cooking chocolate, some cashew nuts, a mint imperial, a dairylea triangle and a fruit pastille - all heated in the microwave. It boiled over in the microwave (the bowl was too small) and spilled out onto the floor, so that meant cleaning the microwave and mopping the floor. She actually ate it and said it was quite good, especially the surprise of finding the still unmelted cheese and fruit pastille! I think it's a good idea for her to experiment (within reason) and learn from her mistakes.

@ianpspurs sorry to hear you and yours have caught whatever the bug was that affected your son and family. I do hope it passes quickly and that you are all back to normal very soon.

Loving all your news guys and especially about Em and her antics!! Good luck with the sewing maching saga. I had an ebay problem with a pair of earrings they were not like the photo on the website and I was really disappointed and contacted the seller they were amazing - in contrast it would have been cheap to send them back and get a refund but she was wonderful and refunded me and suggested that I keep them. she said she was new to ebay and her photos had all been mixed up. Lovely gesture in face of a mistake.
@ianpspurs hope you and Julie and the pup are feeling better soon - sounds unpleasant take care.
Re returns etc I am really fed up with choosing clothes from online photos as we can't go into the shops and being disappointed and having to repackage and return. I had some clothes from Sainsburys today and most have had to go back I also resent that Sainsburys reduce the refund by the price of the return at least M and s don't charge for returns will put me off buying Sainsburys clothes in future. - I know not real problems but when you are really stressed it may be the straw that broke the camels back. No wonder delivery companies are busy all this stuff going backwards and forwards!!

Sounds pretty good to me!

I, too , hate online clothes shopping. I recently ordered 8 items from M&S and it came in 8 parcels over 3 days. Just as well I can't go anywhere else. 7 items were returned. A football shirt ready for nephew's Christmas came with its security tag still on so has had to go back... and so it goes on
At least the paint and stars for the Village Xmas Dec's have arrived. Just need a dry dry so I can spray them outside. First truly cold day of the season here today
Head is better today

@SlimLizzy & @MrsA2 the camping story that springs to mind of me as a child camping with my parents was my parents even used to take the dogs with us - one time the car broke down in the middle of mountains we had to wait for the AA or whatever to arrive and get us going again (funny there was a lot more old cars on the road back then), then one of the dogs that was in the back of the car ate the steak pie that was supposed to be for the dinner (my mum was not happy I wonder why) and when we arrived I kept asking when my dad would be finished putting the wendy house up - it was very windy -by this time he was not happy - I don't know why they bothered but looking back it was so funny but it wasn't at the time for my parents who said that half the holiday money had gone on getting the car fixed before we even got there. Well I have been there, done that and wore the tee-shirt and eh I give the camping amiss and only do hotels or eh caravans at a push ...but I still have the memories - so funny

@ianpspurs I hope yous (and the dog) all have a speedy recovery!

@Annb Good luck with the new sewing machine. Em sounds a right little darling - you are so lucky to have her in your life.

@shelley262 hope your life is a little less stressful than of late - take it easy

Have not been very successful at online shopping in the past. Clothes are wearing out though, might need to give it another go.
Yesterday we watched Bohemian Rhasody, Inspired us to download Live Aid concert.
Tonight am watching Live Aid with Errant on my lap, he is relaxed but alert, watching MrSlim and Son1 intently for any sign of a share in their snacks. Son1 is still courting Errant and did get to stroke him tonight. It's cupboard love ofc, as he is offering tidbits.
But if it works... and makes both of them happier...can't really knock it.

@MrsA2 camping stories... hmm which one first?
The time it rained so much we packed up early and went home, after discovering that three of the four children were sleeping in a stream. Dad backed the car into the tent, loaded it all. Including us, 4 kids and Mum. Then stripped to swimming trunks and took down the tent.

Or the trip to Scotland, that was ended by a hump backed bridge in the Lake district. Car and caravan separated, caravan overtook the car and buried itself in a dry stone wall. When we got sort of settled in the farmers field. Mum fell through the floor in the pantry.
I could go on.

@MrsA2 glad your head is better! Hope you get your dry day to spray paint soon. When the walkway is all lined, I'd love to see a pic

@Mrs T 123 that was a humdinger of a camping memory lol.
@SlimLizzy is Errant the proper name now for Cat? Your camping stories are winners. Losers? Great memories anyway.
We camped once or twice at our tree farm which we visited every weekend year-round for work and fun. Dad had built a platform for the tent, and the folding toilet (a seat on an "X" shaped frame, with a plastic bag attached) was in a separate Army Surplus canvas pup tent. That tent stank. They proposed one summer to have our vacation there instead of travelling to grandparents, either set. About the second night it rained hard, and the tent leaked everyplace that a corner of one of the Army Surplus cots touched it. Wet everything. Down sleeping bags do not dry well. I think we stuck it out one more night, but Dad declared we'd leave early as none of us was having any fun (true). We still did weekends from time to time though. The daily burial of the toilet bags was an adventure that we girls had to master. The grass grew high and lush in that patch!

@MrsA2 @SlimLizzy @Mrs T 123 can I join in the camping stories?

The parents of one of my good friends at University were members of a private camping site in Anglesey. One holiday said friend - S - myself and two other friends (identical twins) decided we’d like a camping holiday. S and I set off from London in her old mini clubman (something like the attached pic) loaded up with tents and other paraphernalia. Picked up the twins from their home in South Yorkshire and then drove down to Anglesey.

The car was so full that the twins had to lie flat on top of the tents / luggage as we drove down. Arriving in the dark, there was no way to pitch the tents so we unloaded into a barn and then 4 of us slept in the car. My spot was behind the steering wheel next to the only front door that opened, so I’d be able to get out for a pee in the night (!), S in the other front seat and the others in the back.

It was all quite hilarious. We did end up having a very good holiday.

Thanks for all the good wishes. me and the pup seem to be making a much better recovery than Julie although I am usually up a good 3 hours before her. I have had a much smaller than usual mug of tea so far and all is well. Grottiness aside, the water fast served a purpose - probably as good a food day as most LC days for me.
Breakfast time a year ago after an hour in the gym. Preparing for a hard days sightseeing and sunbathing. I didn't drink the orange juice.

Oh, the seriously low carb rolls arrived mouldy - not a good start.

I'll catch up later today. Currently, I've been taken up with my one surviving brother being admitted to hospital. He lost all power in his legs on Wednesday night and couldn't move. After a night of extensive tests, they discovered a couple of brain leisons and a bleed. He's in a general ward now but, with Covid, no visitors are permitted and, trying to find out what's going on via telephone is nigh on impossible. He had a fall a couple of weeks back and banged his head but goodness know if that had any bearing.
Main thing is he's getting some power back now, he's talking, eating and drinking plus he's asked for his mobile and Suduko to be dropped off.
No idea what treatment will be but since they've done nothing so far, it's looking like a wait & see.

So sorry to hear about your brother @maglil55, it would have been worrying at the best of times, but now it must be awful for you and your family. I'm glad to hear that there is a little good news and that he is ready to take up some activities. In these kind of cases it often is a case of wait and see - doctors try to leave well alone, if they can. Not a happy situation being on the receiving end of the wait and see treatment though.

Oh @maglil55 am very sorry to hear your news. I agree with Ann it must be an encouraging sign he is showing more interest in eating, engaging. I hope you soon get some better updates, as you say a difficult time to be in hospital under any circumstances. Best wishes to you all.

@zauberflote Yes, we have decided on Errant for Cat. It's the French word for stray and is pronounced Erraun(t). Having googled "How to teach a cat it's name" we are now making some progress in name recognition.
Tonight we are in Norwich, staying with Son1, after five days Errant is begining to accept the new situation and another person.

The rolls should have been delivered Monday but we were out and the earliest rescheduled delivery was yesterday - local sorting office closed much of the time. They were still in date today. It could be an omen - egg, palm oil. @maglil55 sorry to hear about your brother. We have just heard our son and DIL have tested negative for COVID.

"Erraun" sounds very posh said in a French accent. Good name.

On the subject of pet names:
Had a walk today with a friend who has horses. She is also boarding a friend's pony for the winter. Pony is named Hairy Mary. Said pony passed an enormous tape worm so friend took a picture of worm and sent it to owner saying "Mary passed this today. I think you need to get her treated ASAP or I won't be able to keep her here" Fair enough except she pressed wrong button and sent the message to her entire exercise class, none of whom knew that Mary is a horse and most assumed she is a human. Much embarrassment all round.
(Hairy Mary is now treated and better BTW. She has a brother called Geezer!)

@ianpspurs that's the only thing about the rolls/bread you need to put them in the fridge/freezer straight away - they can last for up to a week in the fridge and I think a couple of months in the freezer. I don't imagine you will want them again if you have seen them mouldy - that would probably put me off big style.

@maglil55 sorry to hear about your brother - what a worry for you - it is promising that he is heading in the right direction and asking for things I hope he gets better and better again

What a strange kind of day - I had my retinopathy appointment at the hospital this morning - was supposed to have it in April - really strange at the hospital I seemed to be the only one (except for the lovely staff) in the eye department at the time when it is usually so full of people. I actually felt quite sad.

Then ... off to finish the christmas shopping - almost done except for the selection boxes and nothing I will stress over as we are now back in lockdown as of 6pm tonight until 11th December.

Next I thought I better check out the hairdressers as the roots are needing done (I had a cut a couple of weeks back) - oh no - no appointments left now for December - then I thought well I won't be doing anything/much anyhow unlike last year when we had lots of night outs on, socialising with friends and then there was 14 (7 couples) of us away for the new year. So sad with nothing to look forward to anytime soon.

Next I went to the card shop to buy my personal cards as after tonight they will also be closed to 11th December. Again, didn't get the buzz I usually get it was a case of what do I need just get it and get out as I could hear someone cough. I don't think I will be sending cards this year and I suppose at the end of the day christmas is really for the kids and as long as santa is good to them that's all that matters.

I was off work today and tomorrow - so I think I will now have a wee morgan's spiced rum and pepsi max as it's not a school night for me and can't wait to put the christmas decorations up this year to feel a little christmas cheer whereas I would usually never even consider it before December, although it will probably be December before I put them up now
