"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

Breakfast was a wrap with a creamy mushroom mixture.

2nd meal will be a fishy stew/fish pie filling. Probably finish off with one of those tiny, semi-sweet peaches. Can't remember the variety but they look like tiny pumpkins. When Neil bought them, they were like pebbles so I sat them on the windowsill to ripen. Now all 5 have ripened together. Might have to cook the rest and put them in the freezer in some form. Maybe a puree to cook something else with later on (when I get my kitchen back into some kind of order for baking).

My paenioa finally flowered this year (along with the camilias and the magnolia I'd almost given up hope on).

The flower on this is rather beautiful. No wonder it's called Bowl of Beauty! The sad thing is that the flowers don't last long.

They are not edible flowers either so I guess this chatty thread is the right place 20240606_171816.jpg

They are lovely. Mine disappeared without trace years ago - too much other stuff spreading and invading spaces.

I'm to start my new job monday morning at 7 am. It's only two days, monday and thursday, loading up shipping containers.
And now I have covid. :meh:
It's not too bad, sneezing, watery eyes, bit of a fever I think, generally feeling like a wet dishcloth, but it's definitely bad enough to make it very unlikely I'll be able to make a good impression on my employer on monday. Fingers crossed I'll feel better by then!

On tuesday, I'll have an interview for a job as an 'assistent kolkenzuiger' (gully sucker?). :)
Which my friends and I find hilarious, because in our youth we were all told we could always become a gully sucker if all else failed. So now my friends have a lot of fun about actually knowing someone who followed that advice! :hilarious:
I think I'll like the job too, although it's long days: 9 hours a day, but only 3 days a week for 9 weeks. We'll see, I hope they'll hire me.

Neighbour and I have tickets for a metal festival tomorrow, the way it looks now I'll go on character and paracetamol, and hope for the best. Our other neighbour was to go as well but she called it off, and I don't want Tale to have to go on his own.

Yesterday was another night of a fire and beer in the garden with Tale, and discovering we didn't really have a plan for our meals way past dinner time.
I had a pack of spareribs in the freezer, but it was still frozen solid and it was too large for the microwave to do a bit of quick thawing.
Occasionally I can do some pretty good thinking on alcohol (although usually not), and this is the solution I came up with, package and all. Worked perfectly, and the spareribs were very good! :hilarious:

I bought a new pack of spareribs today to put in the freezer for the next time we need an impromptu meal. Tale saw them and asked if we were going to eat spareribs again tonight.
Sounded good, and no cooking sounds good as well, so they won't make it to the freezer. :joyful:
We already spent the night together so no use for him to avoid me now because of the covid.

Hi all, hope all doing well. Week has flown by again. For those of you that like the Olinas crackers, can highly recommend the recipe on the Freshwell site, used random bits and bobs of seeds that I had already in.View attachment 68140
They don’t look pretty but taste great and 0.5g carbs per cracker.
Lovely day out in Nottingham yesterday to see the Pet Shop boys. Lunch at a Greek restaurant. Chicken souvlaki and Tzatziki,Greek salad and a tsp of hubby’s lemon cheesecake-too sweet :p
Have a lovely weekend everyone
Thank you @sueh21 the freshwell crackers look good. I always used to bake my own seed crackers and LC cakes but found that as it was mainly just for me I was tempted to eat too many! I find that buying more expensive Olinas crackers and deliciously Guilt Free cakes which I freeze in portions helps me to restrict how many I eat of them.

Gosh as @MrsA2 says a hug for the covid but winners for the jobs. Well done on the work and hope that you are well enough to do and enjoy the new job on Monday. We need a few gulley suckers near us our drains are always getting overwhelmed - a key worker job I feel. Good luck

Beautiful flowers

Where did today - or for that matter this week- go?
Breakfast kefir and one slice of bacon and one egg
Lunch kimchi, a few pieces of cheese and LC seeded crackers followed by a few strawberries and hm yoghurt
Dinner wild salmon with asparagus and a few pre cooked and frozen new potato chips oven cooked with goose fat. Then had LC Blondie with decaffeinated coffee.
Off now to water my tomatoes and go walking while listening to a podcast.

Brilliant news about the jobs Antje. I hope you feel better by Monday. Not sure what loading up shipping containers involves, but good luck with it.

@maglil55 how beautiful! I love all things peony-like - I must try some in my garden. My mum had some beauties.

@Antje77 love the gully-sucker job! We used to say we could always be a street sweeper if all else failed, but all those kind of jobs are very sought after these days, they pay pretty well and I think the job satisfaction is good. I do hope covid is short lived enough to let you enjoy and shine on Monday x

@shelley262 we are gardening twins, I do my gardening listening to podcasts too! Gardening is proving great therapy this year, I'm just growing flowers that I love, one tomato plant and one baby cucumber plant - oh and some cut and come again lettuce. I tried to make a full blown market garden last year and it was too soon after losing mum and having all the to-do with selling property, so failed miserably and I'm now still getting rid of the junk and mess it all made. I won't make that mistake again!

It's lovely to just potter around and not feel pressure to keep up all the time. That's real therapy for me, I know some people thrive on pressure but I definitely don't!

Breakfast 1pm
3 slices bacon with scrambled eggs
Some chocolate

Tea 6.30pm
Beef mince with tomatoes and cheese
Greek yogurt with cream and a few frozen raspberries

I'm reminding myself not to lose the plot just now, as I'm getting to a weight where my health and mobility feel quite a bit improved and it's easy to forget how bad it was at the heavier weight. I have often lost about this much and then stopped trying, slowly regaining it all. Keeping my records is helping!

I don’t think there’s one emoji that covers that variety. But well done, oh dear, and best of luck!

Neither do I!
I simply accepted the job. :bag:
There is the small issue of a trapped or irritated nerve in my neck causing my left arm to have some serious dysfunction. Which I didn't disclose.

It's not paying well (very close to minimum wage), but I do like the idea of doing something useful as long as I enjoy it! (Hi @Paul_ )
As for covid, we'll wait and see. I sent the job agency a preliminary message about possibly being ill on monday, and I think the heads up was appreciated.

Mixed day.
Started with some bad dental news. My plate (partial denture) has broken and won't be fixed before we go on holiday Tuesday. It was only mended in February and I'm trying to say that repair obviously wasn't fit for purpose. Trying for an appointment to discuss options, all of which will have an expensive price tag. How come dentists seem to be above consumer law? Grrr!

Meant to do gardening, but with holiday looming and doing nothing that will need any care for a few weeks, there's not actually that much to do except weeding and keeping the lawn cut.

Instead we walked to a pub some way away for lunch outside, 1st of the year.

Then back for an appointment with a solicitor re wills that need redoing.

Next feeling was smugness as I conjured up a tasty meal from leftovers now on day 3. Fridge emptying down nicely ready for our holiday.

Did I mention we are going on holiday? ;) we are off to Italy, 27°

Wow Italy I would love to go there, I am pre and I will take it easy on pasta, Enjoy and good luck!

Firstly, and very much importantly, really good luck with Covid and recovering quickly. Wishing you even more luck for your new job and interview, you should feel so proud of your progress and achievements over the past few months with all the stuff leading to those!

And yes, your comment and tag to me wasn't lost.....I'm still just thinking it over (I tend to overthink these sorts of things, but I'll PM you later when I get more time to discuss, if that's ok?)

Only tea so far. I'll have to think about breakfast soon.

So far today I have cooked the remaining peaches ready for making a puree to freeze, destoned and cooked some cherries to make something with some other time - also heading for the freezer, re-cooked the fishy stew I made yesterday, which I didn't enjoy very much and will make soup with it once I've done something to improve the taste. None of which has made me come to any conclusions about today's food.

There's bacon, eggs, cheese, minced pork, minced turkey and some other meat (can't remember what) in the big fridge in the back porch, which is still difficult to access but I'll have to check it out in a while. There's some haddock. There's various veg options. Also some edamame "spaghetti" (more like noodles really) and some chickpea "rice". Surely I can come up with something from that lot.:rolleyes:

Breakfast is going to be fishy noodles. I've adjusted the fish soup, added quite a lot of butter to calm down the acidic taste of the balsamic vinegar, and pureed it. I'm currently cooking the edamame noodles and will make a kind of pot noodles with it.

2nd meal will be ragout made with pork mince. Might cook some of the split pea rice to have with it.
