"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

Today was the last of the peanut soup, pork belly and a fried egg, a perfect portion, too bad for the dogs who didn't get anything. :joyful:

Today started with an early outside swim with two others, followed by aquajogging in the pool, good start of the day.

All the crossed fingers didn't work, I receivend an email to let me know they're not interested in hiring me as a harbour master.
And Steve has the flu and is feeling very poorly, let's hope it's a short thing and he'll be fit to visit me again this weekend.
I'm still not sure about my feelings for him, much as I like him as a person, but I'm very sure I like sharing time, talk, music, food, drinks, our love for animals, and a bed with him.

So it should be a pretty rubbish day but it looks like december and its gloom is leaving me, the days are getting longer, the weather is much friendlier without the constant rain, and I feel pretty good.
Shame about the job, but it's a whole new year ahead, and who knows what will pop up for you. Glad to hear you're enjoying time with Steve and hope he get over his flu soon.

Just had some RyVita and Marmite for breakfast. Couldn't be bothered with anything else. Plenty of tea, though.

Still shaky and fluttering heart but the doctor didn't think it was serious. I hope he's right.

Not sure what to do about 2nd meal - plenty of vegetables, including some more "garden eggs" (small white aubergines) so it will have to be something easy and veggie.

B: leftover frittata from last night. 1 lc cracker with brie. Cwc

Then up to London. Quick trip to Wallace Collection (amazing free museum) before seeing the dentist I'd found on a quit sugar summit who takes a nutritional approach and low carb.

Awaitng writen report, but suffice to say he found several things of concern.
My concern is the eventual price tag £££££.

Having planned to eat out was so shocked just headed home, cramming in a McDonald's at the station. Double quarter pounder with cheese. Left the bun. Seriously good and meaty.

At home, a large rum.

This online dating is way more useful than I thought!

You may remember my electronically confused car, which often needs its battery disconnected and reconnected before I can coax it into starting (an it'll only start with the ceiling light on, and some more puzzling peculiarities).
Yesterday someone sent me a short message to say they liked my profile. I replied to tell him I'm currently involved in a somewhat unclear 'something' with Steve and not really available. But I also saw he's a retired 'Wegenwachter' (Dutch version of ARC I think it's called, they are the ones to save you when stranded on the road, if needed with great ingenuity to coax a car into making it to the nearest repairing place) so I included a short funny thing about my car, mainly to let him know I took the time to read his profile.

He replied in a very understanding way, telling me he'd back out and encouraging me to see if the thing with Steve works out. And he also expressed curiousity as to my confused car.
So he got the long story on my car and its behaviour, and I hinted on getting his help when I need a new car. Buying a cheap second hand car is a nightmare if you have no knowledge on cars, and doubly so if you're a woman. I'm basically a walking invitation to get ripped off. A Wegenwachter on the other hand is the very last person to get ripped off when buying a car, they know their business.

Turned out he loved the riddle of my car's behaviour, and got some ideas to try. If he's right, I might even be able to solve the problem myself!
And he offered his help when I need to buy a new car as well, so I'll need to write his name down for when the time comes. I have friends with lots of different competences, but none know about cars.

It may seem like a small thing, but it's a weight lifted off my shoulders, knowing I'll likely need a new car this year, it's such a very nice offer by someone I don't even know!
Who could have expected this sort of stuff comes from online dating. :hilarious:

The weather was very grey and misty today, I don't think I've been able to see more than 200 meters all day. My mood reflected the weather so I stayed home, no swimming, no groceries.
I'm still trying out my new toaster though, so my evening meal was two slices of toast. :joyful: One with ham, one with a fried egg and 'raclette cheese'. Pre-sliced from Lidl, I've never had raclette so no idea if this is in any way close to the original, but I do like pan-fried cheese so I'm not complaining, even if both cheese and egg stuck to the pan and my meal tasted a lot better then it looked. :hilarious:

@shelley262 you posted elsewhere good news about hubby. So pleased for you both. Definitely deserved a bottle of fizz
Thank you we are very relieved and enjoyed celebrating. We've also booked our next holiday for April now we can plan again! Travel insurance is much more expensive when a condition is being treated or explored.

A welcome return to routine.
Early yoga meant a fast until lunchtime (except for cwc)
L: 2 slices livlife toast with grilled cheeses. Handful dark chocolate coated almonds.
Decorations down.
D: handful olives, stilton, keto crackers (received as Xmas present) will post details when I've checked bg. Small slice hubbies pizza. Hm lc tiramisu (made using just 4 sponge fingers, cream and yoghurt to give 4 portions). Glass white wine with soda water. Later a rum.

Have a sprinkling of snow but as tomorrow's temperature is due to be 10° I suspect it won't last.
Waitrose have just discontinued Livlife bread!!!! I am totally reliant on it and devastated. Please contact their customer services to complain, as the more they receive the better chance we have of reversing their decision on it. The supplier has stopped production as a result, because they exclusively supplied it to Waitrose, so now we are all going to lose access to it :(

I was shocked to hear this as it was just showing as temporarily unavailable on their website! I've not been able to order it for a month and was just panicking about running out! I'd decided yesterday that as I couldn't order liv life and was ordering low carb pasta from Keto chefs plus they had an offer of two free loaves if you spent £30 I ordered the pasta and a few loaves from them. They are excellent for delivery ordered yesterday pm and arrived at 10 this morning! Tried a slice buttered today for an open salmon sandwich and was delicious. Main issue is the price but the bread is lovely I thought.

Oh no! I have a loaf and a half in the freezer which will do me for a couple of months. However I did find it the best of the supermarket versions both in taste and price.

Are there details of where to complain to?

B: a cold chicken thigh and a small chunk of cheddar
Double dancing
Came away tired with a headache.
L: 1 egg whisked with soem cream cheese. Aiming to make a wrap but it got very airy so more like an omelette. Filled it with avocado in lemon olive oil and a few bits of ham. Very tasty. Cwc
Slept a good hour j the chair
D: 2 hot chicken thighs, cabbage, half a small carrot and a roasted pepper. A wine with soda.

I'm going to have to rethink things. I just had a phone call from the GP surgery to tell me that my potassium level is still too high and the GP wants to talk to me about it (next Tuesday). It probably doesn't help that one of my meds is known to increase potassium levels, so I guess it will help to change that one. The main thing, of course, is the food that I eat - most of which are too high in potassium, it seems. The recommended foods to keep levels low include things like bread, potatoes, ice cream, cauliflower and broccoli (both of which I have a problem with). However, some of the Mediterranean vegetables look to be alright (aubergines, courgettes but not tomatoes). The dietician is going to say "I told you so".

This, of course, may be the reason for my recent heart issues, so I guess I'd better start revising my ideas about food. At the moment I can only see using full fat dairy products, some eggs and a lot of Medi veggies. A bit limiting. I really don't want to go back to eating the high carb foods.

Breakfast today was RyVita and Marmite. My cleaner came early and there was little time to do anything else. I have a steak defrosting but that looks to be something I shouldn't eat now. Maybe I'll just have a little bit of it. Mushrooms are out now as well - that's a bit of a pain but I do have some broccoli so will have that with the steak and some onions.

Thinking of you Ann it's tough to think you may need to look at how you can manage various conditions with different dietary requirements. Really hope that your Dr who is seeing you Tuesday may be able to look at some additional strategies to manage this including reviewing your meds. Maybe you could ask for advice 're fluids too - I remember my mum needing to up her fluids to help with her electrolyte balance and kidney issues but you need to find out what would be the most useful tweaks that would work for your individual health conditions.

First a telephone call for hubby's medical issues. We weren't sure whether it was to do with his
A) continuous cough
B) prostate
C) recent health check which raised blood sugar issues Editted he has blood Pressure issues - his sugar is fine
D) recently text saying he had an enlarged heart

Turned out it was none of the above. It was that his total cholesterol was 5. However he has been in the past 5,.4 , 5.3 and 5.2 so 5.0 was an improvement but no . In NHS terms he was 5 which promoted the statins discussion.
He's agreed to eat fish twice a week, monitor BP and retest in 3 or 6 months time.

Clinic pharmacist was OK when I asked about the breakdown, all of which I knew in advance was ok.

With him we await echocardiogram with interest.

So, after all that I enjoyed a brunch of 2 large scrambled eggs with soem roasted peppers and ham in, and a small half avocado on the side.

Bit hungry so after had ff yoghurt with seeds and raspberries, the later still 2 sqs hm lc cinnamon cake

Put for socal evening but pre booked meal served very late (9pm) so drank too much red wine
Ate pate and 1 slice brown toast 2 pats butter, steak (chewy) most of the dauphinoise potatoes and mushrooms.
Friend gave me her Stilton from the cheese plate.

Far too much wine so when home headed for ice cream and 2 sqs hm lc cake and then hm marmite almonds.

Libre finished today so no idea of bg, but hope ots relatively good.

Where is everyone?

Brunch of 2 scrambled eggs with ham. Full fat greekwith raspberries and seeds. Cwc
Later some marmite nuts and "protein balls" from lidl. Mostly dates so not so good carb wise.
Think there was something else but can't remember what!

D: hm lc turkey curry, half a small avocado and some stir fry veg. A tablespoon supermarket jalfrezi.
Coffee lce cream
(My carb eaters had rice, samosa and a bhaji with theirs)

I really didn't need dinner, but when there's guests it's hard not to eat as well

Where is everyone?
I'm here!
And because Steve has the flu I decided on a spontaneous sleepover with my aunt Charlotte, you know, the almost blind one who is dying from cancer.
I've had an absolutely lovely evening and she made us a very posh meal, restaurant worthy. Not perfect visually but I'm so very impressed that she's still able to work with food in such a professional way even though she hardly sees a thing!

Long story and pictures tomorrow night when I'm on a computer instead of my phone.

Not sure what happened to yesterday. It just kind of passed by without me noticing it. I did, late on, make some cabbage with bacon and some bits of potato, so that was some of what I had for food. Can't remember what I had earlier in the day.

Breakfast today will be some more of the cabbage and bacon.

So far, I haven't taken anything out of the freezer for later so maybe something with eggs.

Trying to work out what is acceptable with this new knowledge of too much potassium is a bit complicated if I also stay low carb. Bacon isn't good, but I'm just reducing the amount rather than cutting it out - because I still have some left in the fridge and I'm not going to throw it out. Cabbage is OK anyway. Not sure about red cabbage, which is the only type I have left now. Must check that online. One problem is that the websites I've found don't agree about which foods are low in potassium and some of them are a bit vague about quantities. Eggs should be OK though.

I've just filled in what have you eaten today low carb thread and I have to admit, even after 14 years of living on my own, I struggle to cook for one. I'm not keen on my cooking when it's been frozen! I suppose I'm lazy really, but for a certain recipe, I have to buy all the ingredients which I probably won't use up so I waste them. Now I buy a small cottage/shepherds pie and add lots of veg, or sausages and add lots of veg. Ckicken legs come in handy too. I use my slow cooker and it does 2 meals, but I don't really like the same meal 2 days running and don't like freezing it. Does anyone else have this problem or am I being lazy/picky/ a 2nd childhood brat?? Please be kind with the answers!

I do freeze things because, like you, I can only buy larger quantities so I make dishes and portion them out for freezing. However, they are rarely as good as fresh made food. That's probably why I have freezers full of boxes and packets and no space for any more. I have been trying to use them up, but with little success.

What I tend to do is make a dish for my 2nd meal of the day and often have some left over, which I use for breakfast and then try to make something else for a 2nd meal. It starts the day off well and still has a slight element of variety. It seems to make a bit of a difference having the same dish at different times of day. It also starts the day off well with a fairly substantial breakfast and if I don't feel like cooking later in the day, I can have something light which doesn't take much time to prepare. Sometimes, of course, I just don't feel like making anything and then the substantial breakfast keeps me going until the next day.

I think that we are best to go with our own individual responses to food rather than think we "ought" or "should". I have been desperately poor and very hungry in my time. Also very strictly raised and forced to eat whatever
I was given even if I hated it. There are two things I will NOT ingest and they each caused many a horrible experience at mealtimes. I hope such childrearing is well and truly in the past because it causes a lifetime of damage.

A useful result is that I am happy to eat whatever apart from those two things, and have no problem with eating the same things at another time if there are leftovers. And I am a good cook of simple things and love using up such bits and pieces. But that's me and if it isn't any of you, this is not a fault. We have to manage who we are, and life is so fraught with difficulties that I don't see any point in adding to them by eating to someone else's "rules".
