"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

The chowder was actually not too bad - it tasted better the next day (today) so I thought I would offer it to my lunch guests as an alternative to the lentil soup I'd made. And I burnt it! I put it onto the hob at too high a heat really to get it going, intending to turn it down after a few minutes. I was already struggling to stay upright so I thought I'd just rest my aching bones for a minute or so. Then I couldn't get up again and while I was trying, the chowder stuck on the bottom of the pan and burned. I could smell it and, of course, I could taste it. So, there was no choice to offer - it was lentil soup or nothing. Just as well it didn't burn. I am still soaking the chowder pan, trying to get the burnt stuff off the bottom without damaging the pan. It hasn't worked yet but tomorrow I'll boil it out with soda. That'll do the job.

Breakfast today was a small bowl of the chowder (while it still tasted allright).

Lunch: lentil soup (small bowl).

3rd meal: another small bowl of the chowder - it's not good enough to serve to guests, but is still edible.

Breakfast: Lentil crackers with some beef paste - Princes sandwich pastes - I bought a few different ones but tried the beef first. I used to love sardine and tomato paste and one of the jars is just that. I have made my own in the past but never made a beef version. It was actually better than I had expected.

2nd meal will be some more of the left-over chowder made into a kind of fish pie with some hard boiled egg and topped with kohl-rabi slices.

EDIT: I have an idea about making something like the beef paste myself. Hadn't thought of it before. Should be simple enough.

Thinking of changing my id to "lonevoice". Where is everyone?

Slept better last night
B: ff greek with walnuts and alpine strawberries straight from the garden.
L: tasty salad using greens leaves from the reduced M&S fancy salad, half a mozzarella ball reduced in Lidl, a slice of ham (reduced from lidl) cucumber, a drizzle of dressing and a strawberry from a free pack from lidl. Chopped mint fresh from the garden. Looked really good, tasted even better and a bargain. Well pleased
Later, another slice of ham with some cheese and a mini icecream (9g carbs).
D: 2 90% sausages, mushrooms. At last minutes stirred in large teaspoon dijon mustard, splash of cream, splash of water. Yum. Hubby had a piece of flatbread with his.
Later a rum on a rock
I guess everyone is busy - apart from yourself and @debs248, and me. This time of year many folk are out and about doing summertime things, so the forum takes a back seat. I'm not all that busy though and this, and a couple of other forums keep me company, while I'm stuck in my chair for much of the time. This, and rubbish TV are my companions (so really it's only this; the TV is just a background kind of "noise offstage).

Your sausage dish sounds lovely. I really should remember to add mustard to sausage dishes.

Still here, just nothing interesting to report

Sounds like a lot of our meals. Sadly hubby is not low carb and brings home a lot of reduced pies, but he also looks out for things I can eat too. We have 4 half price Waitrose spinach mornays to chomp through this weekend!

Today I've had

Tiny slice of "BBQ" pork pie.
Coronation chicken sandwich filler with what I call pondweed - one of those bags of watercress/ spinach/ rocket

Tonight it's (bargain) rump steak with mushrooms and tenderstem broccoli, probably followed by a cheese selection as the fridge is bursting and I need to make room as it's French week at Lidl soon!

I don't claim to post anything "interesting". I just like to post my food as it helps keep me on track, and the mods didn't like that I add comments so I'm not allowed to use the main thread. Please don't make "interesting" a criteria for posting, I'd rarely reach that!

However today wasn't quite as planned
Usual early yoga, loved it after a 3 week break
Late breakfast of a cold sausage some ham and a couple of strawberries.
A visit to a private garden opening where everyone else was eating cake.
L: a repeat of yesterday's salad with the addition of a few olives. 30g weight of dark chocolate almonds. About 9g carbs.
Later a little light gardening.

Then just about to go to quiz night when a friend called, he'd found his Mil was on the floor and not coherent, could I help?
Turns out we think poor lady had had a stroke late yesterday. Ambulance called, arrived promptly and took her off. So I spent rest of evening washing and cleaning up the mess. Poor chap only lost his wife a few months ago and this was very triggering for him.
Got to end of quiz, where they had kindly saved me the ploughman's of pate and cheese (I left the bread). I had a large glass wine.

I didn't have the fish pie with kohl-rabi topping yesterday. It was done, but I had a coffee halfway through the afternoon and that ruined my appetite. Threw it out this morning along with the rest of the burnt chowder.

Egg mayo for breakfast.

Cauli/coconut rice with cheese (a kind of cauli cheese, I suppose) for 2nd meal - must not have coffee to fill me up in the afternoon.

Sunday, Father's day in the UK

B: 2 scrambled eggs
L: with 3 visitors : starter of 1 baked samosa on salad with a drizzle of dressing. The men had seconds. Main was roast lamb and extra kofta (added as guest numbers went up suddenly and the lamb leg was quite small), green beans, broccoli, carrots roasted under the meat. New potatoes and Yorkshires for the carb eaters. Gravy.
Puds, choice of shop bought coffee cream dessert or no sugar jelly with berries in or fresh fruits (berries and peaches).
Wine was drunk
3 batons 70% chocolate.
D: 2 m&s crispbread (5g carbs each) with hummus, gherkins and olives
Late night as very hungry, cold lamb and a fruit jelly

Morning all. I've been decorating my bedroom. I found some wallpaper with trees on about a year ago so I thought it was time to use it up! I couldn't find a decorator who I could afford, so decided to do it myself. I've emulsioned 2 walls twice and papered one so just have the last one to paper. It's taken me longer than I thought it would, then realised I'm a lot older than when I decorated last! It's very tiring!! It's my 87th birthday next weekend and I'm going out for afternoon tea and then in the evening to a quiz with nibbles. I'll try not to nibble. I'm looking after my neighbour's cat atm and I feed her in the garden and while she is eating her bf, I sit and drink my coffee and listen to the birds. We have one resident blackbird who is so full of the joy of living, he sings all day. It's lovely and peaceful and healing. Have a lovely day in the sunshine.

Does anyone else miss seeing how many messages they have posted? It may seem silly, but I do!
I hadn't realised that was missing but, if you want to know, you can click on your name to the left of the screen (where it says Rosemary Jackson Well-known member) and it should give you that information.

Here's hoping you have a lovely 87th next weekend. Good for you doing the decorating yourself. I certainly couldn't and you have 7 years on me!

Nothing so far, it's been one of those days. A 23 hour fast might do something good to my blood sugars, fingers crossed...

Hubby is frying some bacon, onion and mushrooms to go with a supermarket spinach mornay, and for later I have what should have been last night's meal - egg mayo with tomato, cucumber and lettuce. Hopefully I won't fall asleep without eating it again as it's been out of the fridge a while.

We watched a video earlier of a recipe for Spam fritters - 120g flour for 12 fritters so they'll be no more than 10 carbs each - yum!

Breakfast: egg mayo with RyVita.

2nd meal: the rest of the chicken tagine from yesterday.

I bought some dried shrimps from Amazon and they arrived yesterday. I wasn't sure what they would be like but they are just the whole shrimps, legs, heads, shells and all and not really suitable for adding to fish dishes. I guess I'll make some kind of stock with them to use with other fish dishes. Has anyone used them and have any advice?

B: a good chunk of ham
L: 2 m&s crackers with a very nice new local cheese. Some nacho dip
Mid afternoon a mini ice cream. Have changed from chocolate ones at 12g carbs to fruit at 9g.
D: frittata with ham and broccoli. 2 small new potatoes (left after Sunday lunch) fried in butter and olive oil
Out for a drink with a friend, white wine and soda
9pm 3 sqs hm lc rhubarb cake with cream
