"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

Oh dear, there are few things as smelly as off cabbage! Are you going to have another go?
No. I think I'll stick to cooked cabbage. I don't like it as coleslaw, which is why I was wanting to ferment it, to soften it. Either briefly cooked or slow cooked will do me fine.

A while ago the bowl of my Magimix food processor developed a crack so Neil bought me a replacement bowl. then we found that the original tools didn't work all that well with it so last week I ordered new tools to replace them. In order for that to work, I needed Neil to replace the spindle with a new one. That was today's job. It was really difficult for him, but he managed. In the process the discovered why it had been so difficult - the old spindle had rusted on to the steel one which runs off of the motor. Anyhow, he has fixed it now and I have packed up all the old tools to send to a charity shop. They might be useful to somebody.

Doing that I realised that the cupboard where I keep all this equipment needed cleaning, so that had to be done before I could put it all back together. At least that cupboard is clean and tidy now, but I'm shattered. Nearly 5.30 and I'm not sure I'll be fit to prep food early enough to make a meal tonight.
 
Lots of talk on here about clearing and tipping and renewing kitchen tools. Well done you guys. This time of year with Christmas and the start of a new year nearing I find makes me think about sorting and new starts. I too have been sorting, clearing and cleaning.
I've also been getting festive. I love the smells of Christmas so have been working on making orange and clove pomanders- I've been dehydrating my clove studded Clementines since yesterday but not managed to fully dry them out yet! They smell good though as does my air fryer.
I watched this lovely version of A Childs Christmas in Wales and has helped me feel very festive - I'd recommend it - a lovely nostalgic watch:

 
Glad to see you back over here @shelley262 ! It's a good time of year to do the decluttering and tidying, especially if you need to go the the tip - if I wait until New Year it'll be very busy at my local one. To be fair though the reason I'm doing it now is because I have some energy and motivation - I'm still afraid the energy will evaporate and I'll be back to not being able to get anything done.

I have barely scratched the surface of the tidying, so the place still looks like a hoarder house but my cupboards and storage are mostly empty or full of stuff that will be getting decluttered - my problems seem to be organising and putting away rather than actually hoarding, although I do have to own up that I am a food hoarder. I've been consciously reducing and decluttering that, but still sometimes add to it before I catch myself.

I have got rid of virtually nothing furniture-wise over my 28 years in this house, and for most of that time I haven't been able to afford to buy matching or very good quality (with an odd exception) so there's a lot of that to declutter which takes a lot of energy, and I'm slow. I won't be buying expensive furniture to replace it, though.

I need to go and post Christmas cards today - I do very few of those now, just older relatives and a couple of friends who still like cards.

Breakfast was carby but small, lunch will be an omelette and I haven't decided on tea yet.
 
Only little bits of cheese and tea until now. I had to go to get my legs bandaged this morning and that finished me for the day. So very sore - everywhere. I've been made to realise that I do have more places to hurt than I thought. Standing up, never mind walking, is risky and I am cold - a big sweater plus a knitted poncho over the top and I'm still cold.

Anyway, at this moment I have a big mug of tinned tomato soup. Bad for BG (but it's already a bit on the high side anyway) but it is warm and quick. and I can warm my hands on the sides of the mug. That'll b e all the food for today.

Doesn't feel like flu - of which there's a lot around here at the moment, just tired and sore, I think.
 
Usual brunch. Evening meal was steak and asparagus. How the wealthy do live! Aldi for the asparagus, local butcher for the steak. I like to support small businesses. No alcohol now until Christmas day, but just finished my 4 squares of Montezuma's
 
What a rainy grey day today -still it meant I wasn't tempted to go out so got on with important pre Christmas cleaning. I didn't enjoy doing it but good to get it done.
@Annb hope you're not developing a virus - feeling cold is often one of the signs. You take care and try to stay warm.Sending you a hug but it sounds like you need a hot water bottle and blanket too
@jpscloud sounds like you're making progress and hope you got your cards posted despite the rain
