There were several posts about eating pickled vegetables yesterday further up this thread - which is why I experimented today. If you look further up today's posts I've posted a sort of diary about what happened today and updated it on all my BG readings and food.
@Wayne36 I'm wondering if the protein roll is a bit like celery. You use calories to eat it.I had a protein roll from lidl with light chedder cheese and sweet pickle i used low fat mayonnaise instead of margerine, before my reading was 6.8 after it was 6.1 not sure why it went down
Hi i had granola with dried fruits and semi skimmed milk for breakfast my B/G went from 7.8 to 14.9 was a bit shocked how high it went but i forgot to look at the sugar content 16g per serving so that'll be going in the bin, think i'll go on to porridge or some burgen soya and linseed bread toast.
It's not just the sugar. Granola will be high in Carbohydrate, probably 70g or more per 100g, which will ALL turn into glucose in your body, as will the lactose in the milk, and the sugar in the dried fruits. Can't think of a much worse Breakfast for a T2D.
Porridge won't help much either as that will be 60g or so Carb per 100g and all that Carb will eventually turn into glucose.
How does the chocolate digestive affect your BG? If it's just a little tiny rise then maybe you don't need to cut it out. Worth testing for.B - two green smoothies
S - one chocolate digestive (got to cut this out too)
L - stilton cheese, pepper, green smoothie with coconut milk
D - going to have salmon with courgette, green beans & tomato
hi Chook, thanks for your reply - to be honest I haven't been testing my blood sugars for quite a while which I realise is remiss of me - I've just relied on the HbA1C. You've reminded me that I was going to get out a meter I was given quite some time ago to see if its still working. I guess if I do that, it will really help with motivation to get my diet right. How does the chocolate digestive affect your BG? Thanks Chook - I've just come off the phone from the doctor's surgery and have got a telephone consultation for Monday to talk about getting a new meter and test strips. You might find (if it's been stored for a long while) that the strips are out of date and the battery might be flat. Using out of date strips can give some REALLY weird results also its worth investing in some new ones.
I hope you find out you can carry on with your choccie biscuit - life is so much nicer with the occasional little indulgence.
Hi can I have recipe for your chocolate mug cake please .....thanksHello again. I need to add a low carb microwave chocolate mug cake and cream to my food diary. I was hungry. And tempted so this was the best option.
@Wayne36 There is no such thing as a "good" Carbohydrate mate IMHO.
All Carbs turn into Glucose in your blood stream, albeit at different rates depending on how complex they are.
This is the Low Carb Diet forum, for posters who want to eat Low Carb to control their diabetes, and seek ideas and alternatives. There is another thread on the Type 2 sub forum, Called "Type 2 what have you eaten today" which is used by posters who don't take the Low Carb approach, and you may find more useful to you for ideas of what to eat to control your disease.
