I don't know how you intermittent fasting people do it. I went a little overboard on nuts last night and my BS was elevated more than usual this mornings, so I decided to do fat only for breakfast. I was STARVING (stomach growling loudly during a meeting...oops!) by late morning.
...
I can't fast or be hungry....I have to eat lol...protein in the form of meat always leaves me hungry but fish, cheese and eggs fill me up nicely with no hunger lurking round the corner
I'm another can't-be-hungry person.
Oh, it's ok for a bit.
But sooner or later, I will start eating again, and the hungrier I got, the more inappropriate my food choices will be.
But... I do often have coffeencream for brekkie.
Maybe you should have used more cream?
I ate a bit too much at dinner tonight (portion control largely) and was pretty full after dinner, but had a rise of 2.7, same as you did. That's a smidge higher than I'm happy with. Like @Brunneria, I try to keep it around 2 after my main evening meal - it's usually a bit less earlier in the day. My meal was very similar to yours, in that I had chicken breast stir fried with lots of green veggies and finished with a creamy peppercorn sauce - that rich sauce is what makes it filling and slows down the process. I don't consider 2.7 a spike, just a predictable indication that I was a bit of a piggy tonight. Thanks for that...am really getting fed up cos no matter what I eat it goes way more than I would expect...to the top limit 8.5 for example for what I had for dinner tonight from 5.8...and pork or a chicken breast take me even higher....I thought protein was okay on low carb...maybe as you say I am not using enough fat. I will try adding more and see if it helps.
When you say you are anti sweetener, do you mean you don't want the sweetness, or the chemicals, or the chemical flavour, or the gut consequences of polyols?
I've had some very unpleasant reactions to stuff like aspartame. saccharin and similar.
and some consequences from the polyols they put in boiled sweets.
But I was amazed and delighted to be able to use xylitol and erythritol in small doses without any problems at all. I'm also content that the small quantities I eat are not harmful to the same extent as the 'chemically' ones are (e.g. in a regular can of zero coke or something).
One of the problems with sweetening icecream is that anything frozen tastes less sweet than if it were room temperature. So you end up having to sweeten the icecream mix much more than you think it needs.
My standard recipe is 3 parts frozen berries, 2 parts double cream, and a hefty dose of erythritol, whizzed in a powerful blender (or the ice will burn out the motor) and eaten immediately. It takes about 15 seconds to make. But if you then try and put it in the freezer it will set like concrete, so has to be eaten immediately.
Oh, the ordeal.
Hi and welcome @JMW !Hi everyone my initials, are JMW. I really admire you all,for taking your issue with carbs and doing something like this forum to
attempt to get it under control. That is why, I want to figure this out. I have always gone by sugar grams when eating. I was 18,
away at college when I was consuming gallons of Apple cider.( nothing could quench my thirst) When I went home to see Dr.
I was diagnosed with type 1D. My mother was a nurse. She told me I had better learn how to take care of myself.( such support)
My father told me the reason I got it, was I was drinking beer at school.......all my fault! ! That is the way everything was usually
handled at home.Five girls, (I was the youngest girl) The last child was the one and only boy. My mother and father's favorite child.
I have been a diabetic for 39 years.I just started on minimed insulin pump w/sensor. It is awesome! I have been on this for 10 days,
and already notice so many different things. Breakfast carbs--23 lunch--32 dinner--25. I was told 5 yrs. ago follow plan for 30 carbs, a meal fruits, vegetables, fish other carbs. no red meat........comments please weight 140lbs height 5`3. JMW
Maybe that's where I go wrong sometimes...I always skip breakfast and wait 2 or 3 hours after getting up to eat lunch...at least it wasn't the high numbers I was expecting...I needed that little boost thank you...you helped a lot with just the right words when I had hit the wall cryingI had a conversation with one of the nurses about breakfast content last week and she was of the opinion that you need more carbs and protein first thing to set you up for the day, when your metabolism is working hardest to fuel you. I always have a large breakfast and these days have 1 scrambled egg on toast and Greek yogurt with seeds. Even though I have the bread, my BG usually only rises by a maximum of 0.2 or 0.3 - some days it's even lower than before - today it was up 0.2. I get a larger gap in an evening when I'm getting tired and presumably my metabolism is starting to slow down for sleep. I know that I eat too late in an evening.
Well done on your good numbers.
Please don't get despondent, you're doing really well, I wish my numbers were as good as yours. I'm largely stuck between about 6 and 11 and am still 8.2-ish every morning . I'm just happy that they're not spiking 15 after every meal, no matter what I ate, as they were in February. That truly is a proper spike! My BG graph early this year looked more like an ECG trace.[...]I needed that little boost thank you...you helped a lot with just the right words when I had hit the wall crying
Thank you so much....that's what I love about this forum...the never ending help and support just when you need it most. I guess it isn't just people new to all this that have to learn. Onwards and upwards...another day...another challenge...Please don't get despondent, you're doing really well, I wish my numbers were as good as yours. You're very new to it and it takes time to get to grips with it, you're gradually honing down what regime will work for you long term - think back a few weeks and reflect on how much you've learned since. Since going on insulin in March, I'm having to start from scratch to some degree too, with a new way of thinking. I wish I'd understood what I do now 20 years ago. It's a perpetual learning curve.
I have insulin in a morning, so I suspect this is a significant factor, although I have it with my evening meal too, but don't get the same benefit, I think because I'm probably less active at that time of day and getting tired.I definitely have a better carb tolerance from mid afternoon onwards. Maybe it is the activity of the day reducing insulin resistance, opposed to my dawn phenomenon boosting bg in the morning...
I couldn't agree more! No matter what our battles are, each and every one of us on the forum is there to support everyone elseThank you so much....that's what I love about this forum...the never ending help and support just when you need it most. Am not happy lol
Decided to try these 9 bars and to start with had a half peanut one as mid morning snack.
Within 20 mins I had an increase of 2.4mols so didn't get chance to test at 1 and 2 hours
Assuming they are not suitable for me then!!
